Really the same can be said for just about every "fannish" group of people.
Why do Green Bay Packers fans bequeath their seats to people in their wills?
Why do Harry Potter fans have midnight parties for book releases?
Why do comic book fans treat Wednesday like it's a Holy day?
Why do people dress up for conventions?
... because it's their thing.
Everyone has at least one quirky love that makes them do silly things that other people could never understand. I openly display my weirdness for the world to see and don't even try to explain it unless someone really wants to know. People think I'm weird but they seem to appreciate someone that is not pretending to be "normal" to fit in.

We're just about to take our 1 year old for the first time and we're bringing along our parents. This one tugged on my heart strings for sure...
But for me, I agree that people always ask "Wht do you keep going back, Why don't you go to Europe instead?"
That and the fact that I always seem find a way to relate anything back to something Disney (ex. "hey look at that _____ doesn't that remind you of .....")

What gets me is people who are Disney people in the sense that they go to the parks a lot and love them but question the strength of my love for Disney. That's a tough one.

At work the other day, I said "I had this pretzel in Norway once and it was FABULOUS! It was like a donut with glaze and raisins."
A friend of mine said "What were you doing in Norway?" Then he stopped, realized who he was talking to, and shook his head.

I can relate with this thread. LOL!
Two days ago the hubby and I were having a conversation about his youngest brother's oddball wife. She's just a flake. She's definitely burned her bridge with this sis-in-law. Anywho, the McNutty-Chick has a 'thing' for Paris, France. So we were talking about her fixation on Paris and I was wondering out loud what the big deal about Paris was. I was contemplating what she thought was the end-all-be-all and trying to figure out what there was in Paris that was so interesting to do. I made the statement that I didn't think there was even one thing there that interested me....then my brain instantly corrected me: Disneyland Paris! Yeah. Okay. So there is ONE thing I'd go to Paris for. I'm thinking maybe I'm not normal because of this. :lookaroun
And my neighbors are just a little weirded out over the Mickey exterior lights on the front of our house.

Ohh gonna have to try that in September...That sounds yummy !!!! Epcot does have the best variety of food.. ..See another reason tol love it!!!
Some people just don't appreciate good Decorating!!:ROFLOL: God I just would love my neighbors house to be all one color.....

We live in Europe - visited much of it (been to Paris A LOT more in the past 15 years (I wonder why?) ,and we've had 'grown up/normal holidays' which we've enjoyed ... but they just weren't in our happy place!! :sohappy:

When talk comes up about vacations in the office or with friends and I'm asked where we're going this year and I say Disney World, I always get the answer, "AGAIN???" As tho we went last year, why in the world would ya want to go back again, this year??? In our family we talk about Disney a lot. Although we only get to visit once a year (we do other things during the year as well), we do not count down days to our trips to the beach like we do Disney. I am wondering how many of these folks that make these comments to us about going 'back again' have never been.

Whenever I start gushing about Disney to my in laws, they get this sheepish/sympathetic look on their faces that ever so clearly indicates that they're thinking:
"Yes, he is a crack pot, but that's okay. At least he's not gambling, doing drugs, drinking, or cheating on our daughter."

When we even mention the thought of possibly doing a Disney Family Vacation.... they roll their eyes and start walking away.
They think its too expensive..... going to be too boring.... and "no one" will have any fun in a kids place.
Riiiiight! That's why we're going to Disney alone! Just me and my husband (WDWMazprty) and our girls.

Haha I love this thread! It is true though, some people just don't get it. I have an aunt who is a nun and highly educated( never been to Disney World and doesn't understand my families obession with it) so when she asked me what my plans were for after high school I told her my dream was to work for Disney. I also went into full detail about the college program and the perks of working in the parks. She looked at me like I was absolutly insane and said " whaaaattttt" 
:lol: The conversation went in a different direction when we began to talk about what she had for breakfast and i piped up and told her that i had Toast with Mickey Mouse's face on it from my new toaster, after this she didnt ask me anything else and is still baffled by my love for Disney honestly I think she thinks I am a total fruitcake :hammer:hahaha

Well when you think about it it is kind of like a cult. We have uniforms (various Disney apparel), a holy land, a iconic leader (Mickey), and it sucks away our entire lives and the majority of our money.:lol:

Funny you mention this. Even though my family loves Disney, I'm more fanatical about it. My kids bust my chops about it. I tell them the same thing as you stated, I could be cheating on your mother, staying out late gambling our money away or doing drugs. I could have worse things to be addicted to.
