Theme elements removed from SGE roof in TL

Why would they construct these huge vents and then theme them and try to hide them? I think this could have been due to the transition from Mission to Mars to Alien Encounter. The use of smoke machines, dissipating the smoke and blowing air effects would require more air intake and thus a need for these vents. Just my hypothesis.
If you look at overhead view of the building, these "vents" are nowhere near the theaters of the attraction.

In fact if they had of needed more airflow because of smoke them they would have been contructed so far away that we would never even see them. Simple duct work from the theaters to these vents would have been cost prohibitive and would render them virtually useless.

Could their removal be yet another step in the gradual 1975-ization of Tomorrowland? It really has seemed like they're slowly trying to strip away the 1995 elements in an attempt to go retro, although most of the changes have been pretty subtle, mostly audio changes and a little more blue and silver paint. Perhaps there could be more on the near horizon? For me, the sooner all of the cluttered Avenue of the Planets mess is removed the better...

Was the holding room before the Mission to Mars pre-show air conditioned? That section with the vents seems too perfectly matched up to that holding room for it to be coincidence.

o_O I dont understand then why they are there. They certainly look like functional vents and they looked to be themed vents. Why would they make such a huge structure with real looking vents behind theming?

Last time we went to SGE the room was still stinky and full of water vapor when we entered. I think some real vents would come in handy.

Maybe the removal is the first stage of a total renovation of the Stitch attraction to a Star Wars attraction - one can only hope Stitch disappears into a Galaxy far, far away......

I just noticed that there's no water in this picture o_O

Most likely it's from the big refurb a few years ago that had the waterway drained. And even when they refilled it, they dammed up the area around the castle for additional work around the base of the castle walls.

Or else it was at the height of the "end all water features at WDW" phase that they went through.
