Im pretty sure they are just being refurbished because they were there a week or 2 ago and they are purposely their to hide the vents that are visible in the second recent picture. You guys can calm down. lol

Those vents weren't there before the panels were put up...are we sure the vents aren't merely decoration also.

It cracks me up that people get all whipped up about how everything is great in WDW then when something goes away a bunch people assume that's it's a falling danger. LOL> As proved lately crap is falling off these attractions so......when in doubt assume it's about to fall down.

No they were, look at the old photo that light green structure with the white vent is still their just mostly hidden. Its a real vent, for real ventilation of a real attraction thats below it lol. Just cause its Disney doesn’t mean everything is a facade.

I'm pretty sure the fake vents were put there during the last remodeling of Tomorrowland when they put the fake panels over the fake vents.

...You would be correct. They're purely a decorative '94 addition.

Why would they construct these huge vents and then theme them and try to hide them? I think this could have been due to the transition from Mission to Mars to Alien Encounter. The use of smoke machines, dissipating the smoke and blowing air effects would require more air intake and thus a need for these vents. Just my hypothesis.

I have a feeling these vents were added for extraterrestrial encounter and served a purpose, there is a whole new floor to that building it looks like compared to the really old picture
