I was kidding when I said the cranky things but these posts are changing my minds. No I don't like Polynesian, it's not my type of hotel. Port Orleans takes you to a place that doesn't really exist anymore, that's why I like it.

Fact of the matter is I'm not staying at a Uni hotel. I wasn't looking for an argument guys sorry if it came across that way.

Actually I took my kid to Tulane on a College Visit. That high end, Garden District off campus really does remind me of Port Orleans. I love the southern, warm feeling of Tulane.

I love that kind of setting as well, but I doubt I'll be holidaying in Tulane anytime soon :(

It isn't Disney by any means but the Garden District has some lovey hotels and inns. The trolley runs at ground level right through the grassed center median that goes down to the French Quarter which is right on the water where there is everything from Casino's, excellent food, old world shops, a mall, outdoor and indoor entertainment. The Garden District wasn't overly harmed by the Katrina and the French Quarter has been restored. From everything I had read about NOLA after Katrina I wasn't expecting much when we headed down to Tulane, after a day I was sold.

As a Tulane student, the former Dixie Landings is my favorite WDW resort, because it reminds me of a romanticized version of a place very close to home. French Quarter, on the other hand, falls somewhere in the uncanny valley for me and I'm not a fan at all. (If your kid is still thinking about Tulane feel free to PM me with any questions, I'll try to be candid!)

Back on topic...I've seen a lot of rumors about a Lorax or Grinch dark ride on Seuss Island. Looking at Google maps, there seems to be room for it, next to Cat in the Hat. Anyone have any insight into that?

Both a Lorax ride and a Mount Crumpit "Grinch" ride have both been rumored for a long time. It seems that the Mount Crumpit coaster would be the better option of the two, as it would attract more guests to Seuss Landing, there wouldn't be another dark-ride in the same area of the park, and Mount Crumpit would look pretty darn cool in Seuss Landing.

I've heard the suits favored a Lorax ride, due to the movie doing well, while Creative wanted the Grinch. But it seems neither is happening because of JP.

I think many people would probably disagree with me, but I'd much rather see a Mt. Crumpit coaster than any expansion to JP. I think a coaster like that has a lot of potential. Although I'm probably biased because I love that movie so much and I would love to see a Jim Carrey animatronic.

There is still much on IOA's horizon, Comcast will use Potter Phase 2 as the massive first strike and then continue to pound away for the rest of the decade at the resort.

You had me at Grinch ride, and then lost me at Jim Carey version...

Oh how cool! I love Tulane. She received just shy of a full ride to Tulane, just had to kick in a couple thousand equivalent of Fafsa. She walked away from it sadly, for both of us, opted for University of Illinois because her major at that University carried a bit more clout with a degree coming out of there. We both loved Tulane so much and she waited to the last day before decision day to choose. Boy what a trying time that was.Do you hale from the area?

We Grand Opened Port Orleans and the next year opened Dixie Landing, still have my mugs from later years that are Dixie, POR is our "home" resort and always the mansions. : ) So hate the Princess Rooms.

This is mostly true. Creative favored Grinch because the design was essentially done and ready to go while Lorax would have required an expedited design phase to meet the aggressive timetable that Comcast executives had in mind. When Spielberg gave a thumbs-up to the Rick Jaffa Jurassic Park IV script and Universal Pictures set a firm theatrical release date for 2014, all attention shifted to a JP expansion which was competing for money with the Seuss project from the beginning. By moving forward with the Jurassic expansion, the Grinch ride became redundant and was immediately off the table. Lorax, on the other hand, is still a possibility.

I'm from New England, and was lured down south by basically the same scholarship. And I definitely understand choosing UI, especially for engineering.

Putting aside the fact that I don't think the live action Grinch movie is A. very good or B. a good fit for the aesthetic of Seuss Island, I think the Jurassic Park expansion is really important to the park. Jurassic Park has more potential as a theme park franchise, in my opinion, as any other property Uni has other than Potter. As much as I love JPRA, JP has been woefully empty since the park opened.

While the Mt. Cumpit attraction is all but dead, it should be noted that Universal subsidiary Illumination Entertainment announced an animated version of Grinch earlier this year so a hypothetical attraction down the road wouldn't have to be tied to that dreadful Ron Howard film.

The relationship between Universal Creative and Illumination is very very strong right now with several Despicable Me creations in the works around the globe ;)
