I remember reading in the past that people had trouble ordering the correct size of the Champion brand runDisney shirts (specifically people complained that they ran small), so maybe it's better this way...you can see them in person and try them on.

Yup, I'd noticed that in the reviews (on disneystore and on champion's own website) and was going to order a medium, which sold out first. I was hoping they would have restocked, instead, they just sold out of everything! I'll cross my fingers that they have it at the expo. My sweetiepie took a personal day from work so that we could fly down early together on Friday (instead of me in the afternoon with him following in the late evening), so hopefully I'll have a decent amount of time at the expo and will be able to get one.

I wish runDisney would use a different brand than Champion. The inaugural Wine & Dine tech shirt is the most uncomfortable one I have ever worn. The Brooks brand is incredible. They might have ordered a cheaper shirt for that event, but it is itchy and horrible.

As long as the Champion/Hanes family of products is a WDW sponsor, the products will pretty much guaranteed be from Champion. : (

After looking in my closet this am getting dressed for my run, it isnt the Brooks that are ultra soft and feel like thread from heaven (even thought they are very soft) it is the Merrell products. OMG... it was a swag tech shirt, but Id pay full price for another.

This stinks. Id like to hear if other have had this same review of the champion shirt or if this was a bad batch.

I have 3 Merrell shirts from the Down and Dirty series and I love them!

I have not tried icing. Thanks for that suggestion!

My shoes are a year old but I've only been running in them for 2-3 months. I'm going to get a new pair after the race but since these don't have many miles on them and are broken in I wanted to keep going with them. I think my issue was lack of proper cool down stretching. I'm going out for a shortish run tonight and will try some stretching before and after to see if that helps. I really think I just pushed myself too far too fast. I realized in mile 2 that I was pushing it far to hard in the first mile. I was running at 10 minute miles and walking at 12 minute mile paces and running much longer than I typically do. I think if I slow my pace and remember not to gun it right at the beginning that will also help.

Slowing your pace should help alot. I only get shin pain when my running shoes are worn out, like Coryna suggested, or when I run too fast for too far. Not every run has to be at your fastest speed. Mix it up and throw in some easy ones amidst the faster ones. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'm going so hard because I feel so behind. I know on the training plan I'm using I should only be running 4 miles right now but the other one had me slated to have already run 10 miles by now. I just need to keep the mental game in check because I have completed all the distances I've had to with minimal problems it is just the mental game that is getting me. I have had to give up 1 of the 3 training runs each week the last week due to allergies and work schedules but like I said I've done all the long distance runs. I think this just is all so new and intimidating that I'm so scared I'm going to get to race day and choke and DNF or something.

I recommend that you pick one training plan that suits your ability and stick with it, and not worry about what any other training plans say. If you follow your training plan (and are smart to avoid injury), it will bring you to your goal. First races are both exciting and scary. But if you put in the prep consistency, it will pay off in the results.

I read an article a few days ago about celebrities that will be at the 20th WDW Marathon. Has anyone heard or read anything about celebrities at the ToT 10-miler?

Haven't seen anything specific, but they usually have a few C/D level stars show up at a race. Past Survivor competitors, etc. Not sure if they convince them to come, or if someone realizes that the person they just registered is kinda famous and then they drag them up on stage....

The only celebrity I've seen was last year at the Disneyland 1/2. Drew Carey and some actress from the show Rules of Engagment were at the Expo signing autographs. Drew ran the 1/2 Marathon the following day with a broken clavicle.

Celebrities? In 2011, I had a very brief chat with NBC's Al Roker just before the entrance to the Magic Kingdom, although I can't recall at this moment whether that was the WDW Half or Full as I ran the Goofy that year - I think it was the half. And in 2010, a wdwmagic friend who had run the half marathon was watching for me and a couple others from wdwmagic run the full marathon outside the entrance to the Animal Kingdom saw Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels.

That said, finding a celebrity is like a needle in a haystack.

I know Im in the minority here, but i dont care for celebrities. When everyone made a huge deal that Kate (whats her face) was running a mini marathon, I said and thought, "Whoopty ______ ______!" People magazine thought it was much more of an achievement and story than I would have ever made it.

Sorry if my attitude comes off blah about it, I just wish all the people that are out there that have really defeated all odds and truly accomplishing something would get as much attention. That is all.

I agree. Whenever I hear of a celebrity getting attention for doing it I always want to scream "What about everyone else!" Honestly I feel like we had more going against us as well because we can't afford the best trainers in the world to help us get ready and we have long work hours and other things to attend to as well.

Totally agree with you.

You know I could be a much better athlete if I had money up the wazoo to spend on a personal trainer and had a nanny to watch my kids for hours so I could train. More emphasism should be put on the Everyday Joe that has to balance work, family, the budget, and lack of time (and has to deal with jerkies throwing trash at them or harassing them as they attempt to get a training run in:p ).
Those people are the true inspirations out there!

I don't hold anything against a celebrity who wants to run the same distance race as me and all of you. When they get out on that track, they have the same challenges as the rest of us and can't pass it off on whatever entourage or private concierge they may have the rest of the time. When they are out on the track, they are exposed like everyone else to whatever elements come into play.

I don't blame the media for giving them attention either. Ultimately, maybe that attention brings ordinary janes and joes out to run when they might not have otherwise. People magazine doesn't care what I wore to go grocery shopping or for a night out. :D

If I count back the number of news stories I've read about runners, more of them are about ordinary people overcoming extraordinary struggles than are about a celebrity with a seemingly perfect life signing up to run the Mailbu Half Marathon. :)

Last week I had some teens pull up beside me and yell something while running. I didn’t hear what it was because the song I was listening to at the time was loud. It was probably better that I didn’t hear them, I just kept going like nothing happened.

I dont hold anything against them either and I would think that some of them try to stay under the radar (e.g. Faith Hill was spotted after the Nashville event if memory serves), it is just the "machine*" that holds them at a higher place in our society and makes a huge deal of them doing something that ordinary people do all day long. It isnt just the celebs that run events, it is the whole package. 99.9% of Kim Kardasian and her pathetic life (from what I gather scrolling down a news site or standing in line at Publix etc) is what Im talking about.

If there was a positive to it, IMHO, it would be that 1 story of someone trying to go run something because a celebrity did it.

Ill not get on my soap box on this and stay peaceful about it. LOL :D Im glad they dont follow me to the grocery store... they would see all my disney tshirts and make fun of me.

*machine: defined as the cycle of society that purchase news about celebrities, the magazines who produce the information, the companies that advertise in said magazines and the person who purchases the information. If we didnt buy that information, it probably wouldnt get reported or produced.

Sorry folks! Didn't mean to stir up anything. I'm not a huge celebophile, but the article popped up because of the 20th Marathon and it just made me think perhaps the "inaugural" ToT race would draw some celeb attention as well. It was more a question of curiosity than anything.

is anyone still planning on dressing up for this race? I was thinking about it, but I am having trouble deciding. I was thinking about dressing up
after the race maybe for the bash.
