The characters on the race course are usually different from those at the after race events.
Of course since this is a villain-centric event and there are only so many villains we might see them more than once but I doubt it.

As for the autograph books I would think that it would be discouraged during the race. Everyone is racing and time is a factor. I know it only takes a second to sign the book but if everyone wanted autographs it would definitely cause slower race times. Plus do you really want to run with a book and pen? I would bring one for the after-race party and just check it before the race.
Good points Coryna. I didnt even think about the time factor. Yep, after party that bad boy.

Would it be too much to run with an autograph book? Should I save that for the after party? Do you think the characters will be the same on the course, as the after party?
I wouldn't. Because everybody still has a minimum pace, I think they try and move through people for pictures as fast as possible. I have never seen anybody out with an autograph book and I've done 5 different RunDisney races now.

More often than not, the characters at any after party are completely different than those on course. For one, the party has typically started before they expect the first runner to finish. And the last runners can usually be finishing when the party is almost over. So many on course characters would still be on course when the party starts.

Re an autograph book, I have never seen anyone running with one. And personally it's not a good idea to bring. Especially since this is a night time race, most non face characters would most likely have problems signing as not all the character spots are well lit. And also, you may not mind waiting the 30-45 seconds or however long it takes for them to sign, but the other people who just wanted the photo may mind. The handlers have the photo routine down to a science often with two of them alternating down the line, so they get you through as fast as possible. If you were walking towards the back of the pack, then it may be a different issue. But otherwise I would keep it packed up for the post race events.

When I ran the Inaugural Princess Half, I didn't see anybody with autograph books either. It was just a thought, I won't. A dark race course makes it difficult to sign one is a good point. I'm sure I will have a hard enough time running with a camera; trying to keep it from getting drenched in sweat. I'd also like to shoot some video while on the course. Then, I can share my experience with my family who won't be there.

Good job. Getting out the door is the hardest thing to do. Don't bow out. Having that goal of the ToT race, that will help the motivation. Knowing that you registered, paid however much money, to not even try? Meh. DFL >>> DNS > DNRegister
Look at pictures of the past bling. Think of the pride you will have by knowing that you were able to finish on your own. No team to help hide any shortcomings, but tons of support (from complete strangers) to keep going and finish as you are. Whatever it takes, just keep putting one foot in front of the other. (And soon you'll be walking out that door ooor oor!)

Training partners, running clubs, even online forums, are all supposed to help support you and motivate you to reach your goals. Sometimes you need to try a different group to find your fit. Plenty of people on here will help provide motivation and encouragement, just keep with it.

Nice Santa Claus is Coming to Town reference lol!

I guess at this point I don't care if I'm the last one to cross the finish line!! lol I was going to run last night but it started pouring when I got out of work and didn't let up til later.... argh!! Tonight though, even if it means I have to go to the gym. I despise treadmill running. For one, it's boring and for two, I feel like it's easier than running on the road. Whenevr I run on the treadmill it takes a lot more for me to get winded than when I run outside. I change up the inclines and stuff sometimes but I still find it harder to run outside. Am I the only one this happens to?

No definitely not. I find the same thing. When I was treadmill training in the Jan/Feb months I could run 2 miles without stopping on the treadmill...i go outside couldn't even do one! Definitely more challenging outside, but I like it much better. I hate how you have to go at a set speed on the treadmill..yuck!

I agree, I now HATE the treadmill after I started running outside... it's such a completely different experience. I'm thinking that unless it's either lightening or just so humid out this summer, I'm running outside on the days my training says to (I restart this week! yay!). Gotta get ready for whatever mother nature will throw our way, right?

LESS THAN THREE MONTHS LEFT!

 I need to get my butt in gear. I've been very lax on my training recently basically just walking a lot and logging miles but not running because of the heat. Starting Tuesday (my next scheduled training day) I am making it no excuses going forth. Even if it is 100 outside I should still at least put my running gear on and try. Right now when it is over 80 I'm not even changing into running clothes I just go walk in street clothes doing nothing for myself.

Work is not making things easier because my schedule changed all the sudden and now I work early mornings instead of mid-day and I can't go on my afternoon run when I work in the early morning because I'll be up all night.

I've been thinking of starting to do some night running instead of daytime since it's been so hot recently... especially since we start the run at night! I was doing a camp over the week last week, and on the 29th I looked at my camper around like 10:30 and was like "wanna know what I'll be doing in exactly three months from now?"

It was creepy to say.

haha. I am glad we still have about 3 months. I was very relaxed this first month of training but I am going to really put forth the effort going from now on.

I just need to find out if where I have been running closes at any point. It is a bike path in NYC and I imagine since the road is open 24/7 the bike path should but I want to check before I go out any later than 8.

I'm glad we have some time still too... the past month or so has been rough on me with school, so I kinda fell off of training :( I did really well for a while, but I kinda went too lax and didn't do as well on my 10k a couple of weeks ago as I hoped. Oh well, just gotta get back in gear right? lol.

I think I'll just use my neighborhood at night, or one of our parks has lit sidewalks. This requires some research!

This is where having an insane race schedule this year has helped me dramatically. I've got 5 half marathons under my belt, so I'm ready for a 10 mile race...plus I've got 2 more half marathons, tough mudder, and warrior dash before the ToT race as well. The only tough part will be the fact that the ToT will be one week removed from a 1/2 Marathon in Milwaukee that I added to my schedule. I've had no choice but to try and keep up because I know I can't let down for a little bit.

Is anyone else using Hal Higdon's plan? I've been using his Novice Plan for a 15k/10miler...I was not too sure about the ONLY 30 minute runs Tuesday and Thursday's on Galloways?
http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51127/15-K-Training-Guide-Novice-Program

FYI...I'm not a running expert, have always flaked on these races (I backed out of 2 prior Disney Races, both Half Marathons) and I am TERRIFIED to run this and get swept up. I've not been making a TON of progress, but I'm way farther ahead of where I used to be. At least i'm trying, right?!

I know Shannon is a big advocate of Hal and she used his for her trainings. I've looked into his, but Galloway kinda fits my over-busy life a bit better...

no flaking on us! We won't let you. :) And as long as you're making some sort of progress, it doesn't need to be a ton, then you're doing good. Just keep focused and enjoy yourself!

Yes, at least you are trying, and that's good. Keep it up.

As for Mr. Higdon's plan, I would say incorporate the off-day stretching and core / ab work / cross-training days with Mr. Galloway's plan. I am starting to reincorporate some P90X workouts on non-run days CardioX, Core Synergestics, YogaX, Ab RipperX, KenpoX and XStretch.

I am running 6 miles Sunday per Mr. Galloway's plan. My supervisor said after seeing me run 5 miles 2 weeks ago and run 3.50 miles in 30 minutes, that I could run 10 miles right now if I wanted to.

Bottom line, everything works, I believe, and it's not going to hurt to try.

Thanks for Mr. Higdon's link. I might incorporate some of his off-day routines.
