Galloway believes in a recovery day between runs. You can cross train. I also bike twice a week. Good luck!I was not too sure about the ONLY 30 minute runs Tuesday and Thursday's on Galloways?

mel flip - No flaking on us , like tom hanks in the league oif their own , " there s no crying in baseball" , so we are here to motaive you and help you.. , we are a big runing family here!
So I switched from Galloway's ToT plan (I missed a couple weeks due to life stuff), to his marathon plan which still has 10 miles at our race.... But I am sooo not going outside today to run! It's already almost 100 degrees out, and is gonna get hotter today. So I'll switch my "long" run (only 3 miles this week) to tomorrow. hope everyone has better luck training today!
Is anyone else using Hal Higdon's plan? I've been using his Novice Plan for a 15k/10miler...I was not too sure about the ONLY 30 minute runs Tuesday and Thursday's on Galloways?

FYI...I'm not a running expert, have always flaked on these races (I backed out of 2 prior Disney Races, both Half Marathons) and I am TERRIFIED to run this and get swept up. I've not been making a TON of progress, but I'm way farther ahead of where I used to be. At least i'm trying, right?!
Don't worry about getting swept up. You don't have to be a blazer and adrenaline takes over while you're out there.
Is the 3 mile only if you switch to the marathon plan or is it also what was showing for the 10 miler? I may switch this weekend and next because of the heat and do the 3 miles this week and then next week do 5 with one being a at race mile pace.
I tried to do my long run at 7:30pm on a treadmill at the gym, but it was CLOSED! Ugh, I'm going to attempt 5 miles on the road early tomorrow am! Hope your 3 mile today went well!
Haha, thanks! I don't know why it scares me so much, but yeah...I had a lot of adrenaline in the Expedition Everest Challenge and didn't get swept there so, hopefully I'll be fine!
I went to UF, if that is what Gator stands for in your name...GOOO Gators!
Go Gators! c/o 2003
As long as you stick to your training and you go into the race fit enough that adrenaline will kick in. My first half was the Wine and Dine last year and I had really struggled in my long runs leading up to the race. But you know what running in Florida in August and September is like. I got to the race, paced my friend for a few miles then took off. I was hoping to make it to mile 9 before needing a rest but I pushed on to the end. Running with others makes a huge difference.
Yayy! I'm c/o 2006 and then c/o 2008 (Master's) plus we were winning sports, so I wanted to stay, haha! Yeah, I had a good rush at the last Disney 5k I ran, but I've never ran this far before. You are doing the TOT 10 Miler, I assume?
Congrats on your first Wine and Dine half, I was debating doing it this year, but I think I am going to stay where I am at.
I had to run today on a treadmill it has been ridiculous out. I may as well have a snorkel its so humid out. Blah!
I used the Galloway plan once and I dont think it prepared me like I wish it would have. I never missed a run. Never do. Compared to the Hal Higdon material, I think Jeff's schedule is good for the casual "I just want to finish" runner, but if you are looking to mildly improve and shoot for a faster time, to me the Galloway plan wasnt good for that.So I switched from Galloway's ToT plan (I missed a couple weeks due to life stuff), to his marathon plan which still has 10 miles at our race.... I think the mild middle of the week stuff and the big Saturdays didnt work for me. I like longer middle of the week stuff and long Saturdays, but not all the mileage gained on Saturday.
Different strokes for everyone. Find what works for you, that is all that matters. I just thought Id pass along my review.
I know Shannon is a big advocate of Hal and she used his for her trainings. I've looked into his, but Galloway kinda fits my over-busy life a bit better...

I would stick with Galloway if you are this early in running. The walk method will really benefit you. I was a little more advanced to do that, I tried it and it really held me back. Again, that was just for me and I had been running for about 10 months straight.Well, I'm not going to lie... I am still in the casual runner stage lol. I started in January with not being able to run more than 1/2 a mile during a workout, so I feel that for my first big races Galloway could be helpful?
I'm going to look at Hal again and see how his schedule fits in life, maybe I can figure something between the two that works.
I do agree that it would be more beneficial to have not all the mileage be on the weekends though... good point, Joel!
Yes, I like to add some mileage here, take a mile or two away there but still keep the same weekly distance. I ran my first Full on my own terms and it kicked my , I ran my second word for word of what Hal said and it was night and day difference. He is the Man!I'm also going to give a shout out for Hal Higdon's plans!
There are lots to choose from and it's easy to swap around the days to fit your schedule. He even states to use it as a template and then change it according to your life. I have used his plans to prepare me for 4 halfs and 2 full marathons and it definitely prepared me well.
Can't wait until the ToT race!
Isnt there a 29 mile day on one of the Saturdays. That is rediculous if you are wanting to achieve 26.2. Longest I ran last winter was a solid 21.5. That combo'd with the great middle of the week work, I rocked that marathon. 29 miles isnt smart from an injury standpoint if you arent use to running that much distance during the week. That was another deal breaker for me.You took the words right out of my mouth! I totally could've written this post, especially the bolded part. I really can't wrap my head around his long run schedule for marathon training. It seems like a lot to me (26-mile long run?! ). I do think his 10-miler/half marathon plans are great for wanting to finish your first longer race, but beyond that I like Higdon better.
About 30 days out, we will start coordinating the "Meet" before the event.
