The 'This is Totally Awesome.' Memorial Day weekend trip report

Well hello there. So here we are. A few days post vacation and already finding it hard to get back into the daily routine. What better way to relieve the blues than to start a trip report. Most of you by now know who we/ I am. But lets recap just in case.

Your host (Me) Aleisha: I just celebrated birthday #33 (eek) two days before we left. Love Disney, Hockey, Kenny Chesney and summer. Hates her two hour commute into DC every day and is allergic to just about everything, including animal fat found in beef pork and dairy. Yes its a pain, no I do not recommend it.

Andy: My DH, 35. Eats breathes and sleeps hockey, is also employed by the Caps, which probably explains why most of his wardrobe is something Caps related. Loves Disney, Star Wars and thinks he is a lot more funny than he actually is. Hates the heat, but says he is getting used to it.

Logan: 4. Star Wars lover, Disney lover. Heart breaker in the making, loves the ladies and has an empathy that is far beyond his years. Mommy's boy, and allergic to dairy.

Now originally this trip was supposed to be back in March but had to be postponed when hockey season ended its lockout. So instead of cancelling it right out, we decided to just postpone it, celebrating my bday (May 22nd) and our 7th anniversary (May 27th) down in our favorite place. Bonus, it was Star Wars weekend

So this was the plan:
May 24-29th at the Wilderness Lodge Villas....
Celebrations: Birthaversary (as titled by a Cast Member)
Dinning Plan.
Annual Passes.

But I am assuming this isn't what you came to read. Which means I shall get started with the actual report.

Wednesday May 29, 2013: Day Six

Departure day is always depressing, but we could not leave without one last bit of magic up our sleeve. Other than breakfast, and having to be back at 3 to get on the not so magical express we had nothing scheduled. Typical of us. Before dropping off our bags we would set aside a bathing suit and a set of clothes in our carry on in hopes that we could hit up the pool before leaving, just in case but this is usually the extend of our departure day routine.
This year, we purposely scheduled our meal with the fab five at Chef Mickey's for the last day to help ease the pain of leaving a little bit. We got up, finished packing, bringing our luggage to airline check in before officially checking out of our 'home.' Then it was one final trip down to the docks to make our way over to the Contemporary. On the way over we watched as the clouds began to thicken up, it looked like it wasn't going to be a pretty day. Maybe swimming would be out of the question. We docked made our way to where the store the boats. With time on our hands-we were seriously way ahead of schedule-we sat outside and watched as the boats came in, called home to verify my parents were picking us up and then eventually made our way up the check in.

I always get questions from friends regarding character meals. Wouldn't it get old? Is it worth it? Etc. The way I see it, Logan is young enough to enjoy them, as hints by the practical run to the restaurant, and I am going to enjoy them while I can, because maybe this won't last forever. Besides, he requested to do this one. And so yes, its worth it. And no, it isn't old. And was he excited? Yes, he couldn't wait. It had been a couple years since we were here. The last time, the character interaction and Logan's interaction was so amazing, I think I cried right there. Checked in we got in line to take the standard picture then grabbed a seat to wait. It wasn't long before we could blink we were being called and sat.

OUR ONLY SOMEWHAT SORT OF COMPLAINT (if that's what you want to call it)

As I mentioned, both Logan and I have the pleasure of food allergies. And as we were being sat I asked if they had marked allergies on the sheet. The staff said that wasn't their portion or dealing with and our server would know. But when the server came out, not one word was mentioned. I tried to get her attention but she dropped off our stuff, told us we could help ourselves and left. I know I could have made a stink about it. I know I could have really gotten mad and asked for the chef. I know this. But thankfully I had grabbed the rest of our Ovi milk (Logan's word for soy milk) and all he wanted was cereal this morning so we were good there. And as for me? I am not a breakfast person and was fine with the offering of fruit they had. So while I could have, I didn't we were covered. And when I did say something to our server about having our own milk she asked why, I did mention he had an allergy to it and she just shrugged. I think out of all of our meals, this would be the one that the staff wasn't as great.

But lets not forget, this is not why we are here. Or why we return here every so often. What we are here for are these fine fellas:

Goofy!!!

Much like the last time, we ended up being the last table that the characters came around to. He waited patiently though and the last table meant he got some great time with the fab five. The first was Goofy, who seemed to be in a bit of a rush, but managed to stop long enough for a picture.

Followed by Donald, who messed with him just a bit, and Logan thought was absolutely funny.

Mickey was up next, and Logan made sure to thank him for the awesome breakfast and for allowing him to come enjoy his kingdom! I don't think Mickey actually got it.

Minnie came out, and I liked this one much better than the last go around

She seemed a lot more personable than the last time we were here.

But soon we were packing it in and finishing up breakfast.

Outside the skies were getting really nasty, and in an instance it was pouring out. With nothing better to do, we decided to hit up the monorail to kill some time. We ended up just riding it around for a bit waiting the rainstorm out before hopping off at Poly to grab a bus. The last few hours of our vacation would be spent at downtown to do some last minute shopping and lunch at the Earl once again.

As we were sitting there, the temps seemed to drop. Even in my long short I was freezing cold and by the time we made our way back to the WL I found myself grabbing my spare jeans and hoodie.

As the not so magical express bus came, Logan began to cry, telling everyone he did not want to go home, and grow up. He did not he did not he did not. He begged for us to take him back or to stay one more day. He didn't care if we were returning in 60 days (at that time), that wasn't soon enough.

I felt the same way.

OK so I MIGHT have cried a little bit at the end when you said Logan was crying. Looks like Disney has that effect on most of us!!

That really stinks about the server at CM. You think they would take that stuff a little bit more seriously, just in case. Seemed like she could have cared less.

I agree with you on the crowds at MK on that Sunday. RIDICULOUS!!!! It took FOREVER to get through the hub before Wishes started. People were just walking and stopping and no one could get through. I've never seen it that bad before.

Great trip report! Logan is an absolute trip....so adorable! I love how he thanked the CM at Star Tours for letting him ride. Oh and speaking of which, bravo to him for making that his first "big boy" ride. Not to mention tackling Big Thunder Mtn!

Ugh, the last day is always the pits. I know I have felt just like Logan did on more than one ocassion. But you'll be back before you know it!

I cried myself. I am not afraid to admit it. LOL. It does have that effect doesn't it.

Yeah it was kind of ugh, believe me I was relieved I picked up the Silk we had and needed to use just in case. Something told me I needed to. She didn't seem to have cared. Like I said, I would have put up more of a fuss probably had I not had the silk.

OMG they were unreal, it took us forever as well I mean we normally run into some crowds, but that was unbelievable.

Thank you, I loved how he did that, and it was so unprompted. I was so impressed how he handled the big kids rides, and he is already talking about taking them on again so that thrills us....

Last days are always hard I hate them. But your right we will be back before we know it.
