The Talk, News, Rumors, About Phase 3

Oh I believe you…

I'm just hoping that as a response to the first plans going out there, they made changes…

Judging by the complete cheapening of the TS plans, my big worry is that Phase 3 was cancelled and SW was moved to the back corner because they didn't want to leave it empty. Having SW there makes it a better park than leaving SoA, if that area wasn't going to be re-developed otherwise.

Well if youre gonna go cheap on Toy Story vs Star Wars.... I'm gonna be selfish here and say go cheap with Toy Story.

Then again, given the amount of record profits that keep happening, they can afford it all.

Given the Shanghai debacle, would it really surprise you if they went cheap on both - AND cancelled phase 3?

So I reached out to "my guy." He said IF Star Wars Land was moved to SoA, it would open closer to DL's version (only a 6-12 month delay, vs. 2 years) but the plan would then be to fill all of the show venues at the front of the park with new shows and call it a day (i.e. mermaid and BATB would get replacements and perhaps Indy would stay with a new show). I have to say, the plan makes logical sense but it is far from the bold plan I heard last July. Caveat is that he said he wasn't sure that this is the plan as he only heard about it a month ago.

Why hasn't work commenced on a garage?

No, that wouldn't surprise me at all but that would make me entirely un-excited for this expansion. I love star wars but DHS needs so much more than just Star Wars and Toy Story. At least one more anchor land and place making.

Completely agreed wholeheartedly.

It's selfish, but raising two boys, I'm pretty heartbroken Carsland isn't coming to that back corner.

If that ends up being the plan, it's horribly disappointing. DHS definitely needs more than that TSL and Star Wars.

Also having two sons, I'm still pretty pumped on their behalf (and my own) that Avatar and Star Wars Land are coming. I just hoped for one more area at DHS for them. Hopefully Phase 3 sees the light of day as each of the options being considered sound wonderful to me. I grow more pessimistic by the day. And I was one of the most excited folks toward this project last summer. Perhaps obnoxiously-so.

Surely TSLlite, SWL, and a Tangled show are worthy of a new park name?

I jest, but it's more than they did with the last name change. Maybe they'll get it right the fourth time around in 2030.

Well TSL should of been "add capacity quick to fix the park closing" $300million land but it was budgeted for a little over $400mil and was coming dangerously close to $500mil. Now if WDI can't design and get a cheap land in concept for that $300m then that is their fault.

Plus all three phases of this project have been flux. For instance there has been at least 3 versions of TSL before the cuts came into play. The overall budget that was approved looks to have remained the same for the total redo.

The construction access road and the prep for the area where no parking will go is still in the permitting process with the South Florida Water Management District.

Isn't it laughable that the land they announced was planned at $400m? Everest and Mission Space cost $100m each!

Oh yes and from what the current intel - shall we say - that I've been getting from the last 2 weeks is anything that goes above certain thresholds is getting looked into why and finger pointing ... we shall see.

Well, that kind of scrutiny is probably a good thing long term. Someone needs to get a hold of WDI's ridiculous costs.

Short term, though, I can understand controlling costs, but hopefully management has an understanding that DHS needs a heck of a lot more than these two lands/4 total new rides (while losing LMA, BLT, One Man's Dream, Jack Sparrow, Osborn Lights and the part time stuff in Premiere). If the reported budget actually remains intact ($2.8B IIRC) then that should be enough to do a Phase 3 even after TSL, SW and parking.

As it should, honestly. How about one three field trips to research foreign toy production for this project instead of seven?

That is expected and should be done. If it goes running out of the planned budget then some should answer why! It just sounds like these massive jobs have not been completely designed and accurately placed out for bid. Like someone is sitting in an office throwing darts and comes up with a estimated cost to build. Then once construction starts the cost overruns are simply the norm. Unfortunately someone will always be on the wrong side when things go bad

As it should be.

There is absolutely no reason the TS land should be anywhere near the cost of Potter (nevertheless, probably over it). It's a joke. Even with all of the original items, it shouldn't have come close. I mean seriously, they're cost-saving by not digging some trenches for the rollercoaster? Those must have been some crazy expensive bulldozers.

Rather than cutting, maybe some of the executives need to be pointing fingers as to why these things are costing so much and demanding the same quality for less money.

You're basically looking at an off-the-shelf coaster, two spinners and a restaurant. I get the "amazing" theming...so add $50 million to it. If Uni were to build the same thing, it's probably be half the cost. My lord, Uni built Hogwart's, Hogsmeade, and the most-cutting edge coaster around for less money. It's insane!

1)The trenches weren't trenches that was expensive Zolt rockwork their buddy
2)That is what you quoted basically - going back to the whole not everything needs a physical model to be built which delays the design process and adds $millions onto the cost.
3)You have a designed coaster from the firm who makes the coaster. There are no spinners, two maters aka the whip ride a CS two M&G locations and a shop.

They cut all the huge figures of the characters around the land to pair back the costs, and tinkering with the design of Slinky still...
