The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

What is the point with ESPN?!?!?!
Sorry, I thought you were being rhetorical.

The simple answer is ESPN owns so much of the sports market that no one can threaten to cut them off. The sports industry in the U.S. is a financial behemoth. No one, not one cable provider is going to cut off their nose to spite their face. They could easily play hardball with the weather channel or CNN but we are talking ESPN here...not going to happen.

This is exactly correct, and you've convinced me that it is for this very reason why Disney needs to merge with TW. They need more situations like ESPN in order for them to have better leverage against Comcast.

So I sit here at adulthood, like you, enjoying a wide range of things outside of Walt Disney World; traveling both around the USA and abroad being among some of those enjoyments. And I have people that I know that will NEVER join me on these adventures. It's not because of money. Not at all. Very rarely do Disney lifestylers have problems finding disposable income. It's because they simply don't care about the world outside. And this gap widens in just about every aspect of my adult life. It's very hard to relate to a person who has no perception of the world outside the zip code 32830.

I'm sorry. When it becomes impossible to relate to a friend I've had for years and its large because I matured and grew up and they did not, I back away from the situation and let them snort up all the pixie dust they want. It's obvious that the road I am taking in life is never going to intersect with theirs at any point along a future timeline.

It sounds like I am running around making friends enemies for no reason. Quite the opposite. Keeping such people close is what really breeds the contempt. Again: not healthy. Not for them. Not for me.

I understand and appreciate where you are coming from. I did a massive housecleaning of friends about a decade ago. It was painful. But I was headed in one direction and these friends were happy or 'happy' treading water instead.

It had nothing to do with theme parks. I just outgrew people, many who became jealous of my travels, the people I knew, the lifestyle. They couldn't fit in and made no attempts to grow, to step outside their comfort zones (yes, I see lots of that in the 'I LOVE WDW!!!! OMG IT IS SOOO AMAZING!!!! LOOK RETRO POLY MERCHANDISE!!?!?!' crowd).

That said, I don't judge people based on what theme parks they like or how much pixie dust they snort. It is the entire package. I absolutely have friends who just don't like theme parks of any ilk and I can appreciate that. And I have friends who still can't kick their WDW habits. ... To me, it sounds like you are one of the many miserable people living in a town that isn't what it once was or what you'd like it to be?

And I am glad you like my ''looking for the childhoods that never were and never will be'' quote ... that is one of my favorite lines!

"Foamer" is my favorite of the theme park pejoratives because it actually is used within the upper echelons of WDPR and WDI to describe the people who post on these message boards. I guess I would count among the foamers but I think I got a rabies vaccination at Hogwarts. I don't get the same enjoyment out of these public spaces that certain others do; "looking for the childhood that never was and never will be"

I like 'fanboi' myself because online folks have this dumb notion that I created it.

It came from Glendale from WDI from gay Imagineers who had lots of dismissiveness toward fans of Disney and the parks and could be critical of their work.

I'll take credit for things I created ... but I am just using Disney's own self-hating term against them.
