Just a reminder. Anything you say on social media (including this discussion) can be used against you.
The old adage that warns you to be careful about what you write because it may be made public some day still stands.

Hey guys, I don't really see the point of bringing Twitter in here. There are enough complaints around the forums when people take to Twitter to engage in discussion about what goes on in these forums. Now it seems the reverse is occurring. If you want to get involved with Twitter users, best bet is to do it on Twitter, not here. Thanks.

Ah, our fearless leaders chime in!

I am very careful about everything I place out online because I am quite used to my words being twisted and turned against me. But I stand behind them. I don't squirm. I don't change them because they make some uncomfortable.

I think the issue with Twitter and the Disney fans who engage it (instead of say, posting here) is that they seem to think that their words should only either entertain their flocks or should help them garner favor with a company or individuals within said company. You don't want people talking about what you are saying? very simple answer: go private. We all know they won't. If I can read your Tweets, the whole world can. And what they decide based upon how they interpret it ... is ... well, sadly out of your control.

I brought in Fun With Tweets because I thought it was a funny, interesting peek into the daily lives of the Disney Twitverse. Someone who tweeted (Mark something or other, don't have the tweet handy) said he viewed the purpose as sort of a daily Reader's Digest version of what was going on in that part of the fan community. He was entirely correct.

It wasn't done with malice. It wasn't even done to poke fun, although some folks lent themselves to that quite well. ... No one should be because they actually got attention and, unlike their Twit feeds, I KNOW my threads get read in places of power. They should be happy they got a shout out.

That said, I've made it a daily feature of posting here because I have been laid up and quite ill for the past three weeks and had way too much time (doing a Fun With Tweets post generally takes between 20-40 minutes to put together) to sit in front of my computer. Happily, I am starting to recover (sorry, Georgie, not dead yet, old pal!) ... and I also don't wish to take Tweets when people think they're being watched and say things hoping they'll get picked. No fun in that at all.

So, I'm going to do Fun With Tweets only on occasion now.

And while I don't have anything against 95% of the people I selected for this, I still hate Twitter. It is akin to people watching FOX or MSNBC etc to get news slanted to them. It has helped kill fan discussion forums because, for the most part, people only Tweet with like-minded folks. So, the Pixie Dusters, the soccer blogging moms, the UNI fanbois, the low level Disney CMs (think two Jasons, one Andy, Dr. Blondie, Sacry Steven, Crazy Gary, etc), folks that follow one or two lifestylers etc ... they don't really mix. Unlike here where you can get all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds and opinions, the Twitverse allows like crazies to enable others. Just that simple.

The world was so much better without Twitter.

The only thing I ever found twitter useful for (i do have an account) was when I was with a college in Cambridge MA and I followed MBTA status messages, Beyond that I've found twitter to be worse than useless

I didn't say that you can't talk about other social media sites. I just do not see the point in commenting on individuals twitter posts on a different platform. The argument is often thrown around that the Twitter users should come here if they want to engage with our users, so the same should be true in reverse.

Steve, I have no desire to engage any of these folks unless they wish to come here and add to your site.

But they are a huge part of the landscape of today's fan community ... and to ignore that isn't smart either.

As far as I can tell, there is no difference between linking to a person's open Twitter feed and linking to published stories, blog posts, news from other sites etc ... the only difference is some people have thin skin and don't want big bad strangers talking about them here (possibly in unflattering terms).

I, personally, don't like it when a crazy in the Twitverse (and multiple banned member here) Tweets about doing very nasty things to myself and half a dozen other members (some close friends) here (not that he's capable) and then a WDI show writer with very little brains decides to re-tweet it. That to me is a serious issue ... people not liking that others are repeating THEIR OWN WORDS is simply childlike behavior.

As I said, I don't intend to do Fun With Tweets daily ... but that's because my time is valuable ... if 25 people here each sent me two Tweets a day, I'd gladly put together a list of maybe the 20 best of the day.

But if folks can't handle it in the Twitverse, my advice would be to grow up and/or go private. Simple as that.

What IS it about Twitter that brings out the bats--t crazies, I don't care what the topic is the bats--t crazies are always found in the TWITverse...

From what I can tell, the vast majority of the Twitter lifestylers are all about childlike behavior. Their Twitter fights are no better (and actually worse, if you consider that they're legally adults) than middle-school cliques battling it out.

And it's all acted out in public. Free entertainment, I suppose.

Hi @WDW1974 ! My name is Erica, or as you may know me already... @ericarose on twitter. I don't know if I should be flattered or alarmed that you consider me a part of the WDW Lifestyler crowd. After all, we are neighbors in South Florida - perhaps we should meet for lunch one day, but maybe you are afraid I might throw something at you? ;)

Well, hello, Erica. Had no idea you had an account here ... although to be fair, I don't think there is a single WDW Tweeter that hasn't had one at some point.

First, you should nether be flattered nor alarmed. Your name came up in a search with other Lifestylers and judging from your Twitter page, I don't feel like I have somehow picked someone who has no real affinity for Disney and simply Tweeted something once and got snared in my diabolical trap!

I like lunch. And I have met some of my dearest friends from this very site. So, I am not opposed to meeting you at some point ... but I'd have to know you better. Feel free to communicate via PM here. I promise I will respond. I answer all notes, even hate ones. That's the professional in me.

I originally wanted to reply to the classy @Captain Chaos in regards to his "straight jacket" post, but I see he has since deleted it. Thank you both so much for taking one of my tweets out of context and claiming that I have a mental illness. Since you seem to be a fan of my tweets @WDW1974 , I'm sure you might know a *little* about me and that sarcasm runs rampant on my twitter timeline, as well as personal tweets with friends about topics that have nothing to do with The Vacation Kingdom of the World.

Not sure if you recognize me, but I have been a member of the WDWMagic Forums since 2002 and I am still quite active on here. Your threads are actually my lunchtime enjoyment, since I can't watch General Hospital at the office.

I can't make a claim that you have any mental illness. Just don't have enough info. for a professional diagnosis!:D And I can't say i regularly follow your Twitter, I'm not sure I've seen it more than a handful of times.

And I love sarcasm. If it were an art, I'd be Van Gogh.

Sorry, you can't watch GH at the office. That could suck. Quite entertaining these days!

Thanks again for mocking me on a discussion forum which I've considered a "safe place" since I was in middle school; little did you know that some of the people you make fun of on twitter are the same people who also love to catch up on Disney news here. And if you are so infatuated with my thoughts on twitter, perhaps we should get coffee one day in Fort Lauderdale? I'll leave my straight jacket at home. :p

All my best,
@ericarose

Erica, I sincerely wasn't mocking you. It's as simple as that. But if you're looking for an apology, you'll get an E-ticket in the MK first. ... I only apologize when I have done something I feel was wrong. And I don't here. ... Frankly, though, I'd love to see you posting more here (and invite all your 'crazy friends' in the Twitverse too!) ... and feel free to drop me a note anytime.

Hope you stayed dry today with that nasty weather!

I consider Merf the most level headed person on twitter. Read into that what you will.
