Just a reminder. Anything you say on social media (including this discussion) can be used against you.
The old adage that warns you to be careful about what you write because it may be made public some day still stands.
Hey guys, I don't really see the point of bringing Twitter in here. There are enough complaints around the forums when people take to Twitter to engage in discussion about what goes on in these forums. Now it seems the reverse is occurring. If you want to get involved with Twitter users, best bet is to do it on Twitter, not here. Thanks.
Ah, our fearless leaders chime in!
I am very careful about everything I place out online because I am quite used to my words being twisted and turned against me. But I stand behind them. I don't squirm. I don't change them because they make some uncomfortable.
I think the issue with Twitter and the Disney fans who engage it (instead of say, posting here) is that they seem to think that their words should only either entertain their flocks or should help them garner favor with a company or individuals within said company. You don't want people talking about what you are saying? very simple answer: go private. We all know they won't. If I can read your Tweets, the whole world can. And what they decide based upon how they interpret it ... is ... well, sadly out of your control.
I brought in Fun With Tweets because I thought it was a funny, interesting peek into the daily lives of the Disney Twitverse. Someone who tweeted (Mark something or other, don't have the tweet handy) said he viewed the purpose as sort of a daily Reader's Digest version of what was going on in that part of the fan community. He was entirely correct.
It wasn't done with malice. It wasn't even done to poke fun, although some folks lent themselves to that quite well. ... No one should be because they actually got attention and, unlike their Twit feeds, I KNOW my threads get read in places of power. They should be happy they got a shout out.
That said, I've made it a daily feature of posting here because I have been laid up and quite ill for the past three weeks and had way too much time (doing a Fun With Tweets post generally takes between 20-40 minutes to put together) to sit in front of my computer. Happily, I am starting to recover (sorry, Georgie, not dead yet, old pal!) ... and I also don't wish to take Tweets when people think they're being watched and say things hoping they'll get picked. No fun in that at all.
So, I'm going to do Fun With Tweets only on occasion now.
And while I don't have anything against 95% of the people I selected for this, I still hate Twitter. It is akin to people watching FOX or MSNBC etc to get news slanted to them. It has helped kill fan discussion forums because, for the most part, people only Tweet with like-minded folks. So, the Pixie Dusters, the soccer blogging moms, the UNI fanbois, the low level Disney CMs (think two Jasons, one Andy, Dr. Blondie, Sacry Steven, Crazy Gary, etc), folks that follow one or two lifestylers etc ... they don't really mix. Unlike here where you can get all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds and opinions, the Twitverse allows like crazies to enable others. Just that simple.
The world was so much better without Twitter.
