They'll pay it. Maybe with a fight but they'll pay. CBS's CEO said today that Iger can still sleep easily because ESPN is so huge that it could damage Comcast to not carry it.

There are other sports networks which carry actual SPORTS and there will be a outcry but as long as people can see the actual GAMES they will not care that they no longer have ESPN.

Example what part of the Olympics does ESPN have - NADA, NFL - NADA, NBA - NADA. ESPN is carrying very little actual SPORT's programming mostly bad talk shows where a couple of has beens discuss the game they USED to play.

Didn't ESPN carry Monday Night Football?

ESPN still has Monday Night, while not the product it used to be it is still pretty popular. Sunday night football is now the flagship NFL property. It also remains to be seen where the CBS thursday night pecking order will be; Sunday night, Monday, Thursday or Sunday, Thursday, Monday.

They carry Monday Night Football, college football (several conferences, including the SEC), the NBA, college basketball, MLB, and now the Premier League. Fox Sports1 and NBC Sports have a much smaller and less significant line-up.

But NBC and Fox also have the rights to many major markets local teams. A TWC-Comcast merger would mean an increased stake in SNY and ownership of LASportsNet. Going forward, local sports deals will be very important for NBC and Fox. In the Philadelphia area, Comcast charges through the nose for FioS subscribers who want Comcast Sportsnet (Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers). It's easier for subscribers to justify paying high prices for local coverage versus just national. With NBCSN/Comcast Sportsnet, you get both.

Most fans care about their LOCAL teams and if they can see their local teams the loss of SportsCenter and ESPN Classic is not a big deal,

Comcast could do a 0.5 to 1 stock split and match the DIS $100/share
Yep. Their market cap is about the same. Actually assuming this merger closes Comcast will be issuing $45B of additional stock so their market cap would actually be larger. If DIS wanted to buy Comcast the existing Comcast shareholders would likely own more than 50% of the combined company unless they did a stock and cash deal.

If this was true why would ESPN be the most valuable cable TV asset around? College football and basketball are wildly popular and MNF still gets insane ratings. ESPN will carry some of the college football playoffs next year. In addition to the stuff mentioned by others above they also carry MLB games, some NASCAR races and some big golf tournaments (US Open & Masters) plus at least part of all 4 tennis grand slam events. ESPN is a must have for any cable system. I'm not saying this deal won't help give Comcast more leverage when negotiating, but they can't afford to just walk away from ESPN either. Content is still king.

If a game is not highlighted on SportsCenter did it actually take place?

I'm a Philly guy and we are as provincial as they come when it comes to sports and I still go to ESPN before CSN Philly for highlights. The only time I make an effort to go CSN for highlights first is usually Eagles games, if something remarkable happens in a game with the other 3 teams, or major breaking news. And even then I check to see how soon it will be covered on ESPN.

Best remind them Epcot is still stagnating then.

You don't think Frozen is a fad?

Jimmy would say Frozen is a beloved classic since it was created by Disney and Disney has nothing to worry about since no other company can create beloved classics. He will also say that people will be singing the songs from Frozen long after Harry Potter is forgotten (which to him has already happened). Finally he will point to the Disney stock price and parks attendance to support his position..

And let's not forget the Avatar fad that's taking 6 years to develop & build at DAK.

After all, that IP was developed by Disney.

Oops.

Except for the NHL which is practically ignored on SportsCenter.

From what I can see, Disney is investing in the parks, and spending quite a bit of coin in the process. They just are not building new rides, big deal, they are poised for the long run, not short term fads.

Jimmy do me a favor PM me with the name of your dealer ... Building rides a short termed fad for a Theme Park? That is your weakest rant yet. Do you actually believe the BS your mouth vomits on the rest of us?

Disneys stock prices continue to go up because Iger and the board continue to rape the public with price increases at their parks and resorts ... 90% over the past 10 years alone on a ticket to the Magic Kingdom (2003 a ticket was $52 ... today it $95, adjusted for inflation that number should be somewhere in the $65 range) ... and what has really changed? A few 'enhancements' to some attractions desperately needing more in maintenance ... and a 'New Fantasyland' that when you get right down to it added only 1 new attraction because they removed 2 and didn't re-open them ... lets not even talk about the fact that it has taken them almost 4 years to complete the expansion. By comparison Tokyo Disney Sea ... which is the premier park of the Disney Portfolio, took only 3 years to complete.

About the only Disney product that still holds up to the old school Disney service and innovation besides the Asian parks is the Cruise Line. The Asian market get's cutting edge rides like Mystic Manor ... we got MM+ and an app ... brilliant.

And yes, being a successful media business goes hand and hand with the success of the parks, Disney was a mess before Eisner and because of their weak business strategy they almost got bought out from under them, that won't happen now, just not possible.

As for you not liking the parks?

Sorry I guess.

Working in an industry that one of our main jobs is to provide accurate attendance numbers to our clients, I can assure you 100% of them are lying. In Disneys case they hit capacity a few times this year but I guarantee those dead days were padded beyond belief. Since they do their own attendance only a few people know that number.

I've always wondered how many people know the daily attendance number and also how they keep it quiet.
