The Epcot Manifesto
I am not conservative about many things (imagine wanting living wages, honest politicians an the rich to pay a bit more instead of less!?!) BUT ... I am sorry, I don't get why everyone under the age of 65 (fanbois excepted) feel the need to cover their bods in tatts. They don't look good. On anyone. And they only look worse with age.
Oh no! What am I to do! And I got all of these tattoos for you!

Well, at least at this point I can salvage the one I've been working on. I was getting WDW1974 across my beergut, but only the WDW part had been finished so far. Now I can just change it over to WDW4LIFE or something similar. Phew.

Though, I don't know what I'll do with the picture of your avatar I have on my left buttock. You should see the detail they put into the hand!

Snark aside, I don't care what anyone thinks about my tattoos, they are for me. When I'm old, they will look worse, as will I. They will also remind me of everything I got them to represent. My wife, my kids, my life.

Dang, you are knocking it out of the PARK today, Spirit! (Pun intended!)(
I was at WDW last weekend and was thinking about this problem. Last weekend at WDW, all I had was my expired old AP card and my MagicBand. I tried to buy something with the AP discount but they guy told me without a current pass, I cannot. Why can't they incorporate it into the MagicBand the way they check that you're on property for EMH? Arrggghh seems like yet another simple solution that THEY MISSED.

I always believe it pointing to deep center, smiling at the pitcher, grabbing my crotch, and letting that wood hit ball.

Agreed, the time to hate Eisner has come and gone. never cared for him personally, but it's useless to hate on him now.

And the time to 'hate' on Iger is right now ... or pretty much anytime in the last 5-6 years when his 'style' became quite apparent.

Oswald is a neat little part of Disney history, and it's good that they own him again. THAT'S IT. Nothing more, nothing less at the moment.

Yep. He also exists to sell fanbois merchandise. I admit, I own a tee (that I have never worn, but will at some point). ... He wasn't brought back to be any more significant than he is now.

Not wanting to get too political here, but I'm a pretty conservative person in most aspects and I want those things too! Honest living wages, honest politicians (something we'll never have), a fair tax plan. Any American who says different is a moron. I think a lot of people, both liberals and conservatives, at the core, want the SAME basic things. But IDIOTIC politicians and people with "POWER" and MONEY get in the way...They polarize EVERY issue and get the people to hyper-focus on ONE or TWO issues that "define" a party. I'm getting side tracked. Whew!

I hate both parties equally. I have been very clear on that. But then you are only left with total wackos. We need 3-4-5 legit parties. People are too dumb to understand that the two party system ensures that they get screwed forever unless they are top one percent.

Quick tattoo story: I saw this a dude one time at DHS who had his entire head covered in Disney and Pixar characters. Literally, every single character and icon you can think of. From The Three Caballeros to Brer Rabbit to Mike Wazowski and beyond. From obscure characters like the Brave Little Toaster to a logo of WED himself! He had his head shaved completely bald and had tattoos ALLLL over not just his head and neck, but it appeared they went all down the front and back of his body too! I wondered if maybe his head was mostly for cartoons and if his back and front were maybe for something else? Very strange looking, one of the most bizarre tattoo jobs I've ever seen. Wonder what he will look like in 25 years.

I don't care who the person is, how attractive, what the 'art' is ... it still looks like (blank).

1. Nope.
2. They aren't even sure what a character meal is.
3. If he didn't say it, he definitely thought it!

love it!

Keep it up, first time I've been able to keep up with a '74 thread in ages!!! This is the driving force of the forum these days (sorry @Jimmy Thick.)

Yeah, I know. Too bad I'm not being paid!!!

Saw the RCCL's Majesty of the Seas leaving Miami yesterday. Boy, does that look like an old tug compared to today's modern ships.

I'm sure she does, though at the time the sovereign class of ships were built they were the largest afloat. We sailed on the Majesty on our honeymoon back in '97. Great ship and an absolutely classic profile. Nice sleek lines. Not like the floating boxes of today.

I could not agree with you more aside from sailors and old rock stars. But I'll make one further distinction, they look even worse on women. I don't care who you are, how hot you are, or where it's placed, they're not good.

Hard? Yes... else no one would be on top. But impossible to replicate or create a competitor? No way... this is still a very IMMATURE market and the 'kings' are just babies themselves. This stuff grows at alarming rates (as well as can die the same..). What you see here is Disney paying for convenience... instead of spending $50 million seeding something and creating it on their own... they just say "we'll pay a premium for a finished product".

This is Disney saying "we have no interest in the race... we'll just buy the winner..". Except they pay so much and forget the next race is starting every day..

I think this is Disney's strategy is everything today. Most alarmingly, content creation.

The ship certainly is showing its age, which is likely a management issue more than an age one. Disney's MAGIC and WONDER are ancient too ... but, beyond their size (which I think is absolutely perfect), you wouldn't know it because they (unlike say WDW's theme parks and resorts) are being maintained to a very high level.

My grandfather was an old sailor who lived into his mid-90s. Got tatts when he was 18-28 and a young, tough sailor ... they represented my grandmother and his kids and a few random tough key things ... From the time he heard about laser removal to his last months, he wanted them gone. ... People can do whatever they want, but it seems en vogue today to just plaster them over your entire body at a young age. And while not all, MANY wind up regretting them just a few years after getting them.

My husband and I have said this countless times, I just don't get it. But then I also don't understand grown men with Jimmy Neutronesque haircuts and any female over the age of 5 in skin tight leggings.
I'm pretty sure most of our grandparents hated when the girls started to wear skirts that did show women tights or grease type haircuts.
Same when their grand grand hated them for wearing shorts for the beach and women displayed their knees.

Tastes and "la mode" changes every year.
The thing is still the same.. kids trying to rebel and be different.
and I hate most tatoo designs too... but the point is "to each their own".

Agree with you. look how google stole the entire market from Yahoo.. and yahoo wouldn't innovate.. making themselves a dying breed.

same on how facebook replaced myspace as the "in" social network.

and how from photobucket.. the photo gallery to go became instagram.

internet evolves VERY FAST, way faster than other types of companies.

More news related to Comcast trying to dominate... Imagine if this deal happens as well as the rumored NetFlix one... Not to mention the TWC one... Not good.

Bandwidth deal between Apple & Comcast would likely draw federal scrutiny
By Neil Hughes

Though the U.S. government wouldn't need to approve a deal between Apple and Comcast for faster and more reliable streaming video, such an alignment would likely draw regulatory scrutiny, in particular with respect to its effects on net neutrality.

Analysts and experts who spoke with The Wall Street Journal feel confident that any such deal between Apple and Comcast would "draw close regulatory scrutiny." While the deal wouldn't require federal approval, it would raise questions about net neutrality, which is a belief that all content should be treated equally on the Internet, rather than preferential advantages given to those who are willing to pay.

But while experts believe the terms of a potential Apple-Comcast deal would draw eyes from federal investigators, they also believe that such an arrangement would likely be accepted. Guggenheim Securities telecom policy analyst Paul Gallant said he expects the U.S. Federal Communications Commission would be OK with the rumored deal as long as it were nonexclusive and didn't degrade traditional broadband service.

The FCC has a particular interest in preserving net neutrality, and is planning to issue new rules that would prevent service providers, such as Comcast, from charging content providers, like Apple, to reach consumers at faster Internet speeds. But the rumored negotiations between Apple and Comcast are unique, in that they do not actually involve the open Internet.

Instead, it was claimed this week that Apple is in talks with Comcast about a deal that would bypass congestion on the "last mile" of connectivity, which represents the connection between Comcast and the end user's home. During peak usage hours, those pipes can become heavily trafficked, which affects Internet connections, and Apple seeks to have its own dedicated connection to ensure quality streaming video transmission.

Market watchers believe any talks that may be taking place between Apple and Comcast do not likely go far beyond the alleged topics, and it's unlikely that Comcast would completely hand over its customers' user experience to Apple. Instead, it's believed that something like a dedicated Comcast application for a device like the Apple TV could provide live and on-demand content to Comcast subscribers.

Further complicating matters is the fact that Comcast is already expected to face significant scrutiny from the government as it attempts to buy rival company Time Warner Cable. In hopes of pushing that acquisition through, Comcast has pledged to expand its support for net neutrality.

I find that very bad... Anyone remembers when Comcast and other cable companies lobbied many senators of some states to prevent small town from installing competitor networks to drive competitiveness?
It almost gives flashbacks of AT&T when they were owning the entire telephone industry.

That is a closely guarded secret, but I might send you a note with it ...

I did want a rainbow band to show my support for Disney fanbois everywhere, but Disney only wants you to choose one single color.
dull grey?

Actually it was the development of Epic Mickey specifically that lead to Disney getting him back and that ended up having mixed results. It got Oswald back in the public eye and Disney apparently realized the value in expanding fanboy pandering to actual stories with those Disney Kingdoms comics using Museum of the Weird and Dreamfinder, but the games themselves had a lukewarm reception

And look how the circle has come around again as when AT&T bloomed into the cable TV industry, AT&T Broadband was sold to who? Comcast.

That's the beauty of this for them. Disney doesn't have to do anything. The content creators are the ones that are doing all of the work here.

1)The top ones on Maker Studios are paid per 1000 views per video. That will stop.
2)I'd imagine they will drop the lower ranking talents to affiliate which will cause loud problems
3)Disney will audit it, like Spirit said - which to be honest I forgot was they got rid of Marvel's gambling business ... you really think they won't tell Channels to drop the language or those ra... I mean those offensive jokes to anyone that hasn't watched South Park before ...
4)But the second Disney tries to interfere the big Channels will switch to a MCN that doesn't impose those restrictions.

Trying to do things like this online is VERY HARD these days. The install base is so huge with Maker that of would take forever to even come close to reaching that and with Disney, I highly doubt they'd be successful on their attempt.

Again, the install base of subscribers is the big thing here. LOTS of eyeballs.

Yes its hard especially seen as on Youtube there is a finite amount of advertising at various value as well ... so they are competing with the pie ...

Reality does kind of smack you in the face when you realize Disney just bought a content creation company, doesn't it? Where has the creativity gone?

They haven't though they have bought a MCN. None of the content is owned by Maker Studios its owned by its individual channels.... who can leave Maker Studios.

Well we will see, but there are a lot of people (creators and viewers) who won't take that type of change lightly. The push back would be huge. I just don't think Disney can do it.

(If they try and Disneify KassemG, I'll be ed haha)

Spirited Tuesday Afternoon Musings:

Was that a couple of MAGIC bands in the mailbox or was the mailman just happy to see me? Yeah, probably a little of both. Now, gotta go wrap them in tinfoil and hide them in the garage.

So, those bands are so convenient. You can leave your wallet in a safe. All your cards ... oops, what? You want an AP discount??? Well, then you better have that gray discount card in your pocket that you'll have to fumble and bumble and stumble around for. Again, this thing was so well thought out.

You mean to say you actually registered on My Disney Experience and ordered a MagicBand!?!? I never thought we would see the day of you partaking in such technologies.

On those discount cards - they are only temporary. The discount privilege will be linked to your account and accessible via band or rfid card - it is in development.

I know who owns the content. But guess who FUNDS and MARKETS that content? Without Maker, the top YouTubers would survive as Ray William Johnson has proven, but everyone else? They'd be back to making ty home videos.

My point is, Disney doesn't have to do anything if they want to market something. They can simply tell Shay Carl or PewDiePie what to promote (with monetary incentive of course) and they come up with a creative way to promote it to their viewers.

All Disney had to do is tell them what they want.
