Did anyone catch the new Disney Resort Hotels show on Destination America last night? It's Disney Week, doncha know?

Lots of unintentionally great bits. For one, the show spent more time on Art of Animation and the wonderful value of its family suites than it did any other resort. Guess they really are having trouble filling those things up.

There was a segment on Disney's incredible transportation system. All guests have acces to the monorail, boats and busses in that order. Like most guests will take the monorail everywhere, some will prefer to hop on a boat and in a pinch you just might get on a bus at some point. HA! When talking about Port Orleans Riverside, they specifically highlighted boat rentals. Oooops.

The show ended with MyMagic Plus and how it will make every aspect of your vacation better. Of course the only examples they could give were keyless room entry, ticketless gate entry and FastPass Plus. But the funniest bit was the commercial that kept running that hyped up the advantage of trying out FastPass Plus while it was still testing. How is that an advantage?!? They are now selling the fact they don't have all the bugs worked out yet? Nearly fell off my couch.

Can't wait till tonight when I can watch the Sandwich King and his family schlep around the Magic Kingdom. What are the odds he spends most of his time in New Fantasyland?

I just checked and do not have Destination America on my cable system. So, I'm stuck with the Goldbergs while I try and decide 'to x-ray or not?'

All we got was a cardboard cut out, there wasn't even a flash drive with it. It mentioned a flash drive, does that count?

Are you serious?

And why has no one explained why Disney needs to send flash drives to guests to begin with? I am sure everyone isn't glued to the CNN 'coverage' of the 'situation' in Ukraine.

I just discovered this morning I have Destination America. I missed the Disney programs but saw some great ones on national parks out west.

VERY weak effort.

No news of substance at all. Skipped over so many things, from the sub closing situation to the 24-hour day to even how DLR handled the weekend's big rains.

It was all old info repackaged and regurgitated ... maybe they can fall back on the CM parking issue as news, but it isn't and they've reported it ... multiple times ... I suppose the HK parade to DL, which will NOT happen, can be called new.

And it isn't cool in real columns to hint at a story (the Soarin projection issues) and then defer on talking about the issues because lawyers are involved.

Like I said, VERY weak and forced effort.

( Regarding talk of the improvements slated to be installed in the DCA version of TLM Attraction....)

Agree.

It would not surprise me to learn that the originally planned *Ursula death scene* was intentionally removed for fear of the scene being far too scary for kids.
For those who have seen that *ride re-creation* concept video that was featured on one of the more recent *The Little Mermaid* Dvd sets, you know what i am talking about.
It WAS scary....but great.
Ursula*s finale, as it was originally intended to be staged, would have been quite shocking ( no pun intended ) to experience!

Personally i loved it...but can easily see how it would likely become a magnet for attracting parental complaints.
Today*s Guests would complain about the scare factor( ala *Snow White* )in what they assumed was a cute little kiddie ride.
Sad but true...tis* a sign of the times.

There is more sensitivity to that *scare factor* aspect when it comes to proposed family-friendly attractions now then back in the day.
I have the impression since first riding the attraction that the *scare factor* was cut on purpose to avoid this.

A shame, as it would have definitely livened up the experience a bit...and provided a rather memorable moment seeing the *scary villain* dispatched.
Perhaps this will be better re-addressed with the upcoming DCA versions refrub/-re-tweak.

Here*s hoping....

It was indeed disappointing to experience the attraction after witnessing the fantastic concept video shown some years earlier on that before-mentioned Dvd set.
That *ride that never was* teaser presented by Tony Baxter was great...and i would have loved to have seen the *Mermaid* Attraction more closely mimic some of those visual ideas there.

The transitions from scene to scene were fantastic..and the overall effect used to make it feel as if riders were actually dipping under and then above the surface of the waves was unique.
The video itself for reference...for those that missed this back in the day when it was released.

A shame that concept was changed and we ended up with the present, more staightforward Omni ride experience.

Indeed i am hoping the proposed additions/changes help bring it into a better finished presentation.

That concept was created by Tony Baxter. Someone who actually understood how to design and build attractions. Sadly he was used as a scape goat in 1998 and wasn't allowed to pitch anything for 12 years and was then forced into mandatory retirement. Meanwhile scum like tom "lets just put in a 3d movie" fitzgerald still keep their cushy executive VP roles and control what gets pitched to upper management and what doesn't. Every time I think about WDI and what they have done in the past 15 it makes me sick to my stomach.

Sure there have been a few exceptions (Cars Land, Star Tours, Avatar) but that has more to do with strong outside creatives riding herd on the project and fighting with Disney on how their properties are represented.

Epcot Center did indeed work, even for years following the 1980's despite the remarkable lack of effort to keep the attractions up to date. Any attempt to say otherwise is simply revisionist history.

Of course it did.

To say otherwise subscribes to the Internet Era where if you say something enough times, then ignorant people will choose to believe it.

EPCOT Center was a creative, popular and financial success by almost every metric ... even when parts of FW began to get tired in the 1990s.

Since people enjoy talking about education, EC would be like Stanford ... while Epcot is more like Alachua CC.

This is the only part of the column that stuck out to me and does have me curious. Universal was able to make the jump from large format film to 4K digital (times four) in 2008 when Back to the Future: The Ride became The Simpsons Ride.

Can we talk about how it sounds like they are actually fixing Mermaid in DCA? I personally don't hate the ride (especially in DCA where it is usually a walk on), but this sounds like it might actually make it "good"!

It can't hurt. The ride just isn't very good (and is exactly the same in both DCA and MK). It is an afterthought in Anaheim, while here in the Swamps, folks think it is a major attraction and Disney spins that it is.

OK, unless I hear otherwise from you guys/gals, here is the last regularly-scheduled episode of a daily look into the hearts and minds (such as they may be) of the Disney Fan Community in the Twitverse, a little segment I like to call...

I personally enjoy your Fun with Tweets bits, mainly because of how tired I am of both sides of the Twitter argument. The anti-"foamers" are every bit as obnoxious as the "foamers" are, and I wouldn't be caught dead taking any of their sides, let alone wasting my time following them on Twitter.

Even more nickel-and-diming. This from allears.net:

Last week, after the All Ears Newsletter had been mailed, we became aware of an unannounced change in Disney's policy regarding tickets that were purchased from non-Disney sources. Several guests reported that when they attempted to add a day to their Magic your Way ticket that was purchased from a non-Disney source, they were refused and told that they would have to spend more than $100 for a single day ticket. Several tried at both their resort concierge and at a guest relations window and were told the same thing.

We called the Disney Ticketing office and and spoke to a supervisor. We were told that commencing with last week's price increase "3rd party tickets can no longer be upgraded to passes at a pro-rated rate, have days added, or have options added at a discount." A different call to a second Disney source confirmed it but added that this does not affect AAA.

On the basis of that, we changed our ticket FAQ to reflect the new policy. More refinement of the policy will likely become known as time passes. We will keep watching the situation and listening to our readers' comments about any problems or successes they have had in this area. - March 3, 2014

And who thought things were going to change under George "The Fall Guy" Kalogridis? :(

What's the latest on Trader Sams? Is that still part of the project?

Who knows? Probably? Likely?

Personally, I think it's weak. The original Polynesian themed resort has to 'borrow' a tiki bar concept from Anaheim because they couldn't come up with an original that was just as cool if not more?

Lazy, yet again. And I love Sam's, BTW.
