The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

Can we talk about how it sounds like they are actually fixing Mermaid in DCA? I personally don't hate the ride (especially in DCA where it is usually a walk on), but this sounds like it might actually make it "good"!

The big Under The Sea musical production number in the middle of the ride will receive a hand painted black light treatment on all of the set pieces and animatronics, while new lighting rigs and projectors will be installed in the catwalks above. This traditional black light effect will make this scene darker and more dramatic, and hide many of the ceiling fixtures found in the much brighter room now.

In addition to an artistic rethink on the Under The Sea scene, the last two scenes of the ride will be rearranged and changed. Ursula will finally get her big death scene here, instead of the little plywood cutout at the back of the underwhelming kissing scene, and the big wedding finale’ will be cut down and condensed a bit to accommodate Ursula. It’s hoped these changes will tighten up the ride’s plotline overall and leave riders more impressed with its showmanship.

Well I'm assuming they'll start by taking the schools of fish and reducing class size... oh wait, we're talking about Disney again, nevermind. :D

I'm honestly surprised most of that stuff made it out of soft open. Seeing the lighting, fixtures etc. is the definition of bad show and it's not like you have to be looking for it to notice... heck, the ride spins you to face it at one point.

Still, nothing irks me more than the cardboard cutout Ursula bobbing away at the end. Her "death scene" is the climax of that entire sequence in the movie and instead they go [kiss on a boat] > [cardboard cutout] > [happily ever after]. It felt like they fast-forwarded the ride past the scary part.

If they made the suggested changes, it would go a long way in helping the ride get to where it needs to be. Good for DCA though if they go through with it but with the "new car" smell still permeating FLE, I have a feeling this is just another penny to be pinched at WDW.

Sadly I believe you are correct...

( Regarding talk of the improvements slated to be installed in the DCA version of TLM Attraction....)

Agree.

It would not surprise me to learn that the originally planned *Ursula death scene* was intentionally removed for fear of the scene being far too scary for kids.
For those who have seen that *ride re-creation* concept video that was featured on one of the more recent *The Little Mermaid* Dvd sets, you know what i am talking about.
It WAS scary....but great.
Ursula*s finale, as it was originally intended to be staged, would have been quite shocking ( no pun intended ) to experience!

Personally i loved it...but can easily see how it would likely become a magnet for attracting parental complaints.
Today*s Guests would complain about the scare factor( ala *Snow White* )in what they assumed was a cute little kiddie ride.
Sad but true...tis* a sign of the times.

There is more sensitivity to that *scare factor* aspect when it comes to proposed family-friendly attractions now then back in the day.
I have the impression since first riding the attraction that the *scare factor* was cut on purpose to avoid this.

A shame, as it would have definitely livened up the experience a bit...and provided a rather memorable moment seeing the *scary villain* dispatched.
Perhaps this will be better re-addressed with the upcoming DCA versions refrub/-re-tweak.

Here*s hoping....

It was indeed disappointing to experience the attraction after witnessing the fantastic concept video shown some years earlier on that before-mentioned Dvd set.
That *ride that never was* teaser presented by Tony Baxter was great...and i would have loved to have seen the *Mermaid* Attraction more closely mimic some of those visual ideas there.

The transitions from scene to scene were fantastic..and the overall effect used to make it feel as if riders were actually dipping under and then above the surface of the waves was unique.
The video itself for reference...for those that missed this back in the day when it was released.

A shame that concept was changed and we ended up with the present, more staightforward Omni ride experience.

Indeed i am hoping the proposed additions/changes help bring it into a better finished presentation.

Agreed, I only rode TLM for the second time this past Friday, and forgot how the ending just abruptly came up....like the budget ran out and they just threw everything together.

So reservation agents are apparently being told to warn people that the Grand Ceremonial House will be closed by the end of next week.

The Redacted tweets simply reflect brain damage on the part of the lifestylers, The closing of the GCH is really bad news so effectively the Poly has NO AMENITIES at the moment. That's just wonderful for Hampton Inn rooms at 400+ per night.

Nah, not today ... just not feeling very well at all ... maybe we'll try again tomorrow ... and for the love of Lou Mongello, can we open another thread to discuss how bad education has become in the USA and why (I blame stupid people!)?

Perhaps a 'Spirited Education Thesis'

This, so this. In a sentence, you've neatly summed up what it takes to succeed as an executive at Disney.

Believe in what you do but only to the extent that it doesn't interfere with business decisions being made higher up the food chain.

That is why some folks like Georgie ... or even fan fave Marty Sklar have managed to stay years past their expiration date, while others have been gone for years or decades.

So long as you are comfortable selling your soul and having your moral compass reset daily, then Disney is the perfect company to be an exec with.

Over the past few trips, DW and I really have developed a taste for AKL. Stays elsewhere have found us wanting to return to AKL.

Since we're not worried about the long bus ride to MK, we can appreciate AKL for its splendor.

Don't get me wrong, the Crescent Lake area is charming and it's always fun staying at a Monorail Resort when you're dashing off to MK but AKL really is WDW's best hotel today.

I have always loved the Peter Dominick designed resorts the best. They do the best job of transporting you to another place, be they the WL, DAK Lodge or the Grand Cali.

I spent 11 days at DAK Lodge last spring and two days (I think) we didn't even go to either a park or water park. They are destination resorts, which all WDW resorts were at one time ... sadly, I just don't think I could spend a day at the unless I was doing a consulting gig (make your jokes now!)
