The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

The WnW brand is so damaged right now I can see wanting to get away from it with a new name and a new location.

I also agree with Flynnibus that there's a natural cap on water park attendance. Both weather-wise--only Brits go in December, nobody goes in January--and a percentage of the population who just have zero interest. That said it's probably the cheapest way to turn UOR into a 3 (or at least 2.5) day resort.

I go in December/January/February when it's warmer. Those are some of the best Waterpark days...and they aren't too busy(but people are still there)

I agree with the seats. If they had more especially in the store for the husband's to sit at and talk to the other husband's who are waiting while their wives shop. In fact if they had a bar in some of the stores they'd make even more.

Now there's a way to make some serious $$$$$. Park the husbands (and, to be fair, some women don't want to shop but their partners and/or children do) in a corner with some benches and a TV and set the women and children loose! Even better: add a few vending machines or a bar to said area along with sports themed merchandise and a tv- or a wall of tvs- locked on sports stations. Take that, magic band. Instant revenue boost.

You're going to be waiting for a while I think… There's no budget approved as far as I know…

Can we place bets as soon as the budget is set on how long and by how much it'll be cut? We can make a game of this while we're waiting 3+ years for it to be built. :\

When I inevitably end up burning off PTO days at the end of the year, I usually end up at a water park--only acceptable option Christmas week. And yeah, there are a few people, but for the most part, but hardly enough to be sustaining. Water parks are not truly year-round parks even in Orlando.

You mean the Chinese economy is exactly what the communist government allows it to be.

And this is "as risk free as these things get" (quoting JT) exactly how?
I dont see their economy changing overnight (unless the USA defaults). They have built their nation in the past decades as main building construction and manufacturing point for EVERYTHING. (whoops.. sorry again drifted offtopic)

Honestly, I think China has bigger things on its plate than Disney. The park will be a good tourist draw and will help entertain the wealthy class that has been growing over the last couple decades. The Mouse is going to play by China's rules, so I don't see Shanghai being a risky project. If anything, worry about their environmental problems.

so wait... If someone comes in and steals everything from your house... You say 'well you should not expect to have nice things... Then I'm sure you can make an enjoyable time out of it'

Except in this analogy Disney is the thief that you open your doors to willingly. I'm not saying it is right, but I can see why it is appealing to some people. Serious runners should steer clear.

I didn't understand how the corrals worked (or in this case weren't working) in a Disney race, so thanks for explaining. Perhaps they should market it as an obstacle course instead. :D

I agree that Jordan was a better basketball player than Lebron, however I don't believe that Jordan retired from Basketball in his prime. He was suspended due to his shading gambling practices that ultimately led to his father's murder.

Challenging teammates behind closed doors is a good motivator. Ripping teammates in a press conference shows a lack of class.
He retired at age 29 (same as Lebron now) and most people in the basketball world see this as LeBron's prime. Usually, age 28-31 is the prime combination of athleticism and maturity for the NBA.

And what you are saying in regards to a suspension is a conspiracy theory. It's not concrete. So saying it as a fact is kind of misleading.

Also Jordan never ripped teammates before ripping himself. He took the blame but at the same time tried to motivate his players to perform better. It's not a lack of class. Coaches and players do this all the time. It's a motivational tool.

exactly
Magic and Kobe cheat on their wives
Jordan had severe gambling issues
crickets
LeBron does an interview with espn.... outrage
not a Miami/LeBron lover just being real
That's for the wives of Kobe and Magic to worry about - doesn't affect me.
Ditto for Jordan's gambling; it's his money to throw away as he pleases.
But if I'm going to get screwed on national television the way I was by LeBron, I think I at least deserve the going rate for stars.

Time to play a Spirited guessing game: which of the following is in active development right now the mythical WDW fifth gate or the poo-pooed UNI third gate?

Think hard on this one.

I know I am a little late on this one, but I would have to guess Disney. TDO has finally figured it out, they will charge $20 to park, where you can catch a tram to the entrance to the new fifth park, pay $120 to enter and all there will be is one building w/o AC and single minimum wage CM to listen to guest complaints while trying to sell mouse ears to everyone.

Very funny. At least they don't charge the $25.00 six flags charge for parking.

I don't think that would violate the Marvel contract..
Let me check.... No one here mentioned Marvel except you right?

I don't understand why Universal would build a new water park. They own Wet New Wild. I could see them renovate it but that's all
Because WnW has a reputation as being well past it's sell by date. They don't want the park. They want the land.

If I get this right universal has owned wet not wild for a long time and they just purchased the land. Taking that into account why would such a great company as universal let the park get into such disrepair? I thought they were perfect. I still say from a financial standpoint it makes no sense to tear down a water park in one area and build a new one in another area. And don't talk about river country which had to close due to water regulations. They could no longer use water from the lake.

Wet 'n' Wild is a pretty generic (IMO) water park. Universal could theme it up really well if they wanted to. I imagine they see it for other things, or their own (by "own" I mean designed by them and started from scratch) water park, or third park (can't really recall off hand how large the land is). Just my assumptions.

I fully realize you're being sarcastic, but the companies that owned Universal from 2002-2011 were very different than the one that owns it now.
At least the old ownership got the rights to Harry Potter so they couldn't be that bad.

Add on. On the other hand they did get the rights to Marvel but gave them up everywhere except Orlando. Very dumb move on that one.

That's because they cowtowed to JKR and Warner Brothers. They saw Potter as their only chance to pretty up the parks they had neglected for nearly a decade to finally sell them (their goal for the 10 years they rand the resort). They had no desire to run theme parks, and cut costs at every corner throughout the years, including selling off valuable expansion land.

Potter turned out great because Uinversal Creative, the WB designers, and contractors were actually given some room to play. It was still a relatively cheap project with a ton of reused infrastructure. There's a reason Diagon will blow it out of the water, and a reason why the Hollywood and Japanese versions will be significant improvements.
