I'm always amazed how spooked Americans get by distant world events when the average American outside of the biggest cities is far better protected from terrorism, disease, zombies, whatever the latest scam... I mean scare is, than anyone in Europe or Asia, where people are a lot more practical about things and less prone to hyperbole and paranoia.

I wonder if it's precisely *because* most experiences of the outside world only come from news-themed entertainment channels, whereas in other countries you can't walk down the street without mixing with other cultures and nationalities.

Well most media outlets are owned by a corporation and are mostly interested in turning a profit.

TV needs ratings so CNN and Fox will go with whatever the flavor of the week is in order to get ratings. Why did wrong or out the window it seems anymore. Television news is all about sensationalism.

Agreed. But it doesn't excuse the officials in Dallas...or those at the federal level. We've known for years--not just since the current outbreak began--that one day Ebola would board a plane bound for our shores. There's no reason this should have come as a surprise. Now, I'm not saying it deserves the level of panic the media is having a heyday inciting. But there's no excuse for our healthcare infrastructure to not be prepared to deal with imported infectious diseases. Ebola won't be the last and it almost certainly won't be the most dangerous.

Absolutely agree - unfortunately officials are so used to the world being their oyster they don't have the imagination to think it could happen here.

It seems that a lot of people's vision of reality never enters a discussion concerning Disney, so I guess that's natural. Thanks, though for doing what you do. It's something that goes unsung until it's needed and hopefully almost none of it ever will be needed.

Thanks I just wish more people would get involved.

If anyone wants to get started here is FEMA's individual study program home page the courses are also good for CEU's and college credit.

I'd recommend this course as a primer and general education if you are interested.

Did some press photography in college my editor's mantra was 'If it bleeds it leads'.

I'm going to rant for a minute......

So every time there is a Halloween party, all the monorail resorts go to a hard close for parking to prevent people from parking there and skipping out on the $15 or more for parking at the Magic Kingdom.

This is all fine and dandy unless you're actually trying to go to the resort. It does not matter if you were there for business meeting. It does not matter if you were there to shop and spend money. It does not matter if you have an appointment for anything. Unless you are a registered guest or have a reservation, you may not go there.

This frustrates me because I go to the resort to eat every once in a while. Or drink. I don't make reservations because I don't need to. It does not matter how much money I spend per year at Disney, they still behave like it's Nazi Germany in that you may only go to the resorts if you have your papers.

Now I know there are executives in Celebration who occasion my read what I say, and in this instance will likely suggest I'm falling to hyperbole but dear lord, you have a problem. You have an insane guest service problem every time this happens. It does not show an image of a place where you are welcome rather it gives off the idea that have yet another hoop to jump through because some 20-something manager that has never worked a day in their life in the real world has come up with a half-baked abortion of an idea of how to make money and the hell with the guests.

More reasons never to renew my AP

I totally understand what you're saying, but let me tell you about what we observed a couple of years ago on one of the MNSSHP nights. We had parked at the TTC and attended the party from 4 pm on. Since I was still having difficulties with my foot, we left before the party ended and took the boat over to the Poly and grabbed a snack and a seat there. My husband walked back to the TTC to get the car while my sister-in-law and I waited in the lobby. As we waited , the party apparently ended and we watched as boatload after boatload of people arrived, carrying their trick-or-treat bags and walking out to the parking lot. This was not just a few people, but (literally) tons of party guests who parked there to beat the parking fee.
I don't know that being as nasty as they are at the gate is the solution either, but I do understand where that comes from.

just an observation...

No way… Not savages. Freeloaders. Anyone who comes to this happy place and expects to get something for three would beat the system. This includes people who whine about free dining. You're a bunch of freeloaders.

Oh yeah, isn't there some draconian rule that your AP doesn't get you free parking at special events? Like a Halloween Party
