4. Not only is taking a shot at the "older, crankier fan base" insulting to many esteemed posters here, it's also short-sighted and untrue. I seriously doubt all the bloggers on Tumblr losing their **** over this are "old folks" who frequented Epcot in the good old' days. In fact, most of them are CPs. Fans of all ages are upset about this because it's a poor decision. It's as simple as that.

My point was about complaints of Frozen spreading quickly into the parks on a general level, not about what's happening to Maelstrom specifically. Disney could be building a copy of TDR's proposed Frozen attraction at MK and I'm sure some woud still complain about it being too soon, or too much Princess etc.

I also don't worry too much about anyone on tumblr losing their **** over anything as that happens on a hourly basis over the most trivial things.

My comment from a few pages back:

"I find it amusing that when it's with Frozen it's considered overkill, but how much BatB, Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Lion King is spread across the resort? And some people still want more for those properties ("where's the dark ride!")!

We already have a Star Wars ride (one that was given a major update 3 years ago) and people want rides 2, 3 and 4 to come ASAP.

But Frozen, their biggest hit in decades? No, we've already reached the point of overkill."

I'm not insulted at all. I have earned every bit of my place in life as an older, crankier fan base. Being younger doesn't automatically make a person correct anymore then being older does. So... calm down. It could very well happen that 20 years from now, "let it go" will be a classic as well as "Frozen" itself. Give us a call in 20 years and we will see what has happened. In the mean time, and you don't know how much this hurts me to say... let it go!

As I said in my earlier post I agree that accusations that Frozen isn't a classic yet is completely irrelevant. (Actually, I think it's already cemented itself as a future classic.) What I'm saying is, classic or no, it doesn't belong in World Showcase, and that's why fans of all ages have had negative reactions to the announcement. EPCOT Center fans, younger fans, and Frozen lovers.

(Of course I don't think a younger person's opinion has more weight. I was just pointing out the wide range of people who don't like this idea.)

Only wanted to point out that fans in many age demos don't like this idea. Tumblr's an example of one of those demos is all.

But I do agree that the cries of overkill are hyperbolic. But honestly, I think it's due to the exposure Frozen's had outside the parks for the past ten months. I work with kids and the music is constantly being played at my work, the kids are still singing it and watching it on their devices, and every adult/parent is pulling their hair out. I mean, a Disney movie hasn't had that kind of prolonged exposure in ages. I think that's where the Frozen-weariness is coming from on here.

To be clear, I don't think it's the best idea either, but I view the change as lateral more than anything else. We might get a longer ride with better effects, but it won't fit the theme of WS. If Maelstrom was a better ride or if this prevented us from getting more WS rides I would be more offended, but I'm not. It's just all...meh to me at the moment, not exactly knowing what we're going to get.

I also seriously doubt that if Disney spent $300+ million building their best ride ever as the replacement people would stay so opposed to it after opening, but that's not happening so it's a moot point.

Now if they replace The American Adventure with a copy of DLP's Buffalo Bill dinner show ("Hey, it's still American, right?"), then I'll loose my ****. Until then, I'll continue to view WS as what is has been for the last 25 years: a fancy mall.

Snow White's kingdom taking over Germany would be a thematic atrocity. It doesn't belong.

No!! People, please stop comparing the combination of Snow White/Germany with the combination Frozen/Norway!!

Snow White is very much part of German culture! It is part of the oral culture that was told from generation to generation and collected by the Grimm Brothers. The collection of the fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers was very much part of the building of the German nation that took place in the 19th century when there actually was no Germany as a state. There were plenty of small kingdoms and principalities. What bounded people together was the common language and the common culture. There was a movement for bringing all Germans together (this movement was even a democratic one, wanting to implement the principles of civil rights and was inspired by the ideas of the French revolution and hence indirectly by the ideas that were the basis of the founding of the United States) and it was very much inspired by artists and intellectuals focussing on the common German culture and exploring it. The Grimm Brothers were very much part of that movement. Snow White (Schneewittchen) is certainly one of the most beloved German fairy tale. It has a strong foundation in German culture and played even a part in German history so to speak.

Frozen is based on a book by a Danish author. The only connection is that the Disney artists used Norwegian landscapes and designs as a basis for designing the film.

Which is why I feel a perfect attraction for Germany would be a "Tales of the Brothers Grimm" dark ride (or maybe an elaborate show?). Why limit to just Snow White? Also the Disney versions wouldn't be used at all.

I don't say there should be a Snow White ride in Germany. I just wanted to point out that it would be less of a breach of theme.

The Brother Grimm fairy tale ride would be nice, but I think most people would not get it why there are some Disney films mixed with other stories....

I think most adults understand how most of Disney's animated movies are adaptations of pre existing fairy tales or stories. Just explain it to the kids if they ask.

Maybe...

Actually, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Denmark, has a ride called Den Flyvende Kuffert (the Flying Suitcase) which is a dark ride through scenes of H.C. Andersen fairy tales:

At around 4:30 you get to the scene with the snø dronning - I.e. Frozen

Exactly. Same basic idea but, maybe a little more elaborate ;)

What's Asterix?

In Europe there are two series of large format album/comic/grapic novel books that almost every kid reads at some point. One is Tintin, the adventure series about a Belgian boy detective, and the other is Asterix, a comedy series about the French (or Gauls as they were called) in Roman times, struggling under Roman occupation.

Asterix is so popular that it has its own theme park and more French people visit that than Disneyland Paris (think Disney vs Universal, French style).

I can see that many years ago Disney might have considered a partnership of some sort, but I suspect even before the park was around, lack of awareness in the USA (although they did make a Tintin movie a few years ago) probably killed off any ideas early.
