I've never understood this mentality. If you just get an ice cream and step aside for a mere 25 minutes, you can avoid having your face stuffed into someone else's armpit while trying to catch a ferry. (Or is that just my problem? Sucks being 5'0"). I avoid that cattle-drive like the plague.

This is also why the hub is being redeveloped as well as the bypass being built.

They also put a lot of effort into making sure they didn't, at least not so cameras would see. The entire tent house queue was in use, that's a good 3 - 4 hour wait, and the line still stretched back into Springfield of beyond at one point. For a land 3x the size of Hogsmeade. I don't think the crowd was that much smaller.

BTW, reading between the Spirited Lines--and some other things I've seen--I'm not sure it's number of guests, which has still been through the roof. It's that there's a limit to the number of tchotchkies you can entice even Harry Potter fans into buying. Wands and robes are easy, but a lot were already sold in Phase 1; iPhone cases and time-turner watches and $50 moving photos, not so much. The only DA store that seems to need a queue is the ice cream shop.

So as usual its not the attendance, its the revenue.

It's simple... it's better to be in the front of the herd then following behind. That is true in this case because I always have my car so I use the ferry. If you get there quickly enough then I will catch the first one back. It just quicker that way with less waiting. I usually leave either right after the Fireworks or, as is most of the time, right after the parade. With that one, as soon as the last float is halfway around the circle, I'm out of there. I station myself pretty close to the gate that they come through to get on Main Street. I have very little competition that way.

Spirited Monday Musings:

But life takes precedence and this has been a busy time for me (I also have had a family medical emergency as a relative suffered a serious heart attack -- a real one -- and is basically in the same shape Joan Rivers was in a week or so ago.) So, please pardon me if I don't feel like anything here is all that pressing.

I want to thank @lentesta for offering his opinion on Lovable Lou Mongello. I appreciate his perspective. It doesn't change my overall opinion of the man or the slimy nature of his relationship with TWDC. But I do appreciate it.

I wonder if anyone wants to compare what you got at MNSSHP say 10 or 15 years ago versus what you get today and the difference in prices.

Most importantly my sympathies for your family at this time. Always difficult.

I'll have to go look for what Len had to say, missed it, I've missed much over the last week. Curious.
Edit

@WDW1974 I did find a minute to go back and look at Len's comments. I think I fall between you and Len. Len's comments come off much like the the groupies comments from his
"Box People." The ones that buy his T-shirts, audio's, take his tours, travel on all his cruises.
I don't mean that disrespectfully towards Len more there is a certain demographic that seem to be loyalists to his Brand and Business almost on an equal plain to the Brand loyalty of Disney. I've watched this intermittently over ten years now. I've seen his close circle almost completely change since he came out with his Trivia Books which I enjoyed. His first Website DTW based on trivia was informative, his second website by my standards is a failure, Nothing to see there but links from him to blogs, podcast and business wares, seems barren of members, absent of real Disney news. What news he shares is reserved and couched for his Box broadcast which honestly I watched twice and a few "lives" and I don't get the draw. I visit many sights here and there and Lou seems to be more about Lou than about Disney aside from his mega meets where he can rent out and throw elaborate events on Disney Property. They are pricey. The one event that totally threw me was the abrupt end to Mousefest that was held on Disney Property in Early December. All the big Disney peeps went and held their individual meets. This is when I saw that first major 'change' in how he was accepted into the Disney fold. The end was blamed on the organizer bowing out however it could have gone on, Mousefest didn't hinge on one man forever. It was bigger than that. But about a month later was the Disney NYE tease of D23 and then the announcement. Then everyone got to see what Disney peeps played what role in D23 launch. That is where I saw the biggest leap for him into anointed Disney Circle with a few others but he seemed to be the only anointed that remained anointed.

But I do differ, I don't find it to be icky. I just think he is that sharp of a business man having the where with all to know how to insert himself and come out with mutually beneficial business understandings. While he might not consider it work like his days in court, he does seem to meet with many Disney officials and business owners that support the 'Lou' enterprises, all seem to have mutual businesses that benefit. You mentioned Becci in a previous post, she has a massive travel agency, he has the pull with groupies to get them aboard his cruises that she makes arrangements for. Travelers have to book with her agency to get into the special 'Lou' aboard ship private events and he pulls in some big names. This is where I admire what he has pulled off since he moved to Orlando. I'm not pulled into it but I can see the pattern. He always has the best foot forward, nice to everyone (genuine or not and many fans don't know the difference) and it sells his wares. An amazing business model. His message is everyone is a friend. There seem to be many that believe in that message, I look at it more like Groupies genuinely believing they have friendships with this man. Some do, most IMO are kidding themselves but it keeps his brand thriving.

As for the Halloween party, our first for our family of 4. My DD was 5 and my DS 9. DD now 22 years old. We struggled with giving Disney an additional $15 to stay put in a park when we had already paid admission that day. Did because we pulled the kids away from home for Halloween for a 2 week trip to WDW and felt this would make up for it. It did. The party was worth it, not crowded at all. Castle was purple and different decorations were placed about the park as the MK was not as elaborately decorated for Halloween back then.
The best I can remember the attractions were all open and at each attraction were well costumed CMs handing out generous amounts of candy, chips, hot chocolate mixes, cookies and quality candy, you name it type of snacks.

But it was Disney magic at its best back then. We went to hit the pirates and a CM in character went to steal my DD's candy as he was a pirate. Little tyke, full meltdown. CM felt so bad and we assured him 'we' were not upset with him, never know what will spook a small kid. He so wanted her to be happy again that he went into the store grabbed a bag and started taking stuff off the shelves for DD and her brother too. And to speak to the amount of attractions and the small crowds we went into the pirates and we were the only ones in our boat and nobody before us or after us. My DD still remembers (especially after dealing with CM Pirate) how scared she was on the ride though she had rode many times before. She related that it was creepity to be on the attraction alone, no other guests.

Now from my DS perspective, a CM that is generally neatly tucked away from guests was summons to the park late one night as a Party went bad do to extreme weather. I've told this story of guests gone bad many times so I believe the newer Halloween parties are not as good as they once were and sometimes the guests are not what they once were either.

In the past I was probably that guy sitting at the next table eating ice cream:). We always did this in the past. It is a much more relaxing way to exit the parks. Then we went and had kids. I should have held firm and insisted on rabbits instead;).

Depending on the time of year Wishes can be as late as 10PM so its right to bed after the show. No ice cream, just crowds and crazy people. I now know what cattle feel like.

We did hang out inWorld Showcase after Illuminations since that's over by 9:30. Much more relaxing that way.

Try what is left of the Poly beach for viewing. You are already halfway to your car. No monorail or ferry boat, just a short walk to TTC and a parking tram.

The mods did like it as its own thread. It is in the Universal Orlando board where people looking for Universal info would look.

Posted this in the thread dedicated to it and thought I would ask here as well.

The announcements are starting. Didn't someone say that the official announcements of the water park and King Kong were coming soon as well as the hotel? That might have been on Orlando United and not here though.......

Truth be known, I almost never wait to see the Fireworks anymore. It all looks the same to me. The parade, I do, occasionally watch on my way out of the park.

If you're not watching Wishes from the bridge to Be Our Guest you're doing it wrong.
Almost no crowds, you're close enough to feel the shockwaves, and the tiny "Beast" castle on top of the restaurant makes the fireworks look HUGE.
Before the show, there are plenty of walls and benches to sit and rest, and you can hear the show audio just fine.
The only catch is that the 10% of the fireworks that are shot from behind Cinderella's castle will be behind you, but that makes the show a bit more fun as you're completely surrounded by explosions. You can hear those launch and turn around in time to see them.

I caught a bit of it in front of The Little Mermaid.

I find it interesting that not showing your name was just announced as a feature of Apple Pay when Walt Disney World's own payment system seemed to involve a lot of that sort of sharing.

This Disney Parks Blog post about WDW's billboards is astonishing.

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2014/07/disney-billboards-more-than-meets-the-eye/

It's astonishing because the billboards, for the most part, look so bad, and yet the blog post manages to brag about the "hidden details."

Too bad the post doesn't mention the FP+ billboard with two guys, one of whom is wearing a red t-shirt, riding side-by-side on Splash Mountain. Hidden details, indeed. ;)

"For instance, on one of the latest Expedition Everest billboards, subtle yet oh-so-clever tidbits include the Yeti’s footprints in what looks like random texture in the snow, an authentic Tibetan carving embedded in the “T” in the word “EVEREST” and the Yeti’s shadow disguised as a rock cropping."

About all you get to see on the ride as well.

Why do they have to make such a big deal out of BILLBOARDS? Guess they have to with nothing down the pipeline for 3 years. Can't let on you've got nothing new except a small coaster.
