They are actually converting it into a hybrid coaster, so the fire was likely caused by the construction. Supposed to debut next year the new ride is going to be called Twisted Colossus. It is a pretty famous coaster as it was seen in several films and TV shows including National Lampoon’s Vacation. Magic Mountain stands in for Wally’s World.

I did not know that. Holiday ro-oooo-oooo-oooo-ad

Small problem.

That gap should add to the thrills! ;)

Ya that's sad...looks like the new ride won't be opening on time then?!?

I will add that these new hybrid coasters are very fun! Most of them have been overlays of existing wooden roller coasters so far. Our local six flags in Chicago just for a brand new one built this past year which is really fun!

I doubt this will significantly delay the new ride. Replacing chunks of wood roller coasters is not so unusual. The reprofiling done as part of the rebuild process at the other coasters has also involved shaving off some sizable chunks.

15 pages behind?!?! UGH!!!

First, a note or a statement or just a personal bitchfest. But I don't owe anyone here anything, but honesty and integrity in what I post. My time is mine and I am not compensated at all for my time here. I state this, yet again, because someone here sent me a PM late last week and I didn't respond (yet), so they sent me a nasty second note over the weekend suggesting that I was being rude or not taking them seriously. Not true, but not the point.

My policy has always been to answer any/all notes I get (even the hate mail ones). But life takes precedence and this has been a busy time for me (I also have had a family medical emergency as a relative suffered a serious heart attack -- a real one -- and is basically in the same shape Joan Rivers was in a week or so ago.) So, please pardon me if I don't feel like anything here is all that pressing.

I was going to write this this morning after chugging a giant DD iced coffee and I didn't want Marcia to have to edit out all the 'naughty' words that I felt like dropping. But sometimes the true insanity just gets to me.

I am always willing to chat with members of this community. That's why I am here. But I can't respond to PMs/emails on your schedule. If it's life or death, you shouldn't be coming to me. Put the iPhone down, pick up a real phone and dial 911.

Speaking of which, I have a few words about the folks who are camping out at Apple Stores now because something new will be released tomorrow. But since the nicest thing I can say is 'no lifer', I'll defer the commentary for now.

Ah, but you want Disney information or talk. Well, not much to say ... most interesting thing would be Jay Rasulo speaking to a Goldman Sachs conference on Wednesday. You can listen in online. I am sure MM+ and SDL will be brought up. I always love it when Jay goes off topic and starts singing his favorite Disney showtunes.

You could probably guess this, but WDW is going to continue as many of the Frozen Summer events for as long as they can (meaning indefinitely) because it has made a difference to its most troubled park's bottom line.

I am trying to get it confirmed that in light of the fiasco that was Disney's Villains event at TPFKaTD-MGMS that new mandates on how to deal with guest complaints at Guest Relations have come down straight from Georgie K and Disney Legal. If anyone knows anything, please send it on to me. I will, as always, protect your anonymity.

I wonder if anyone wants to compare what you got at MNSSHP say 10 or 15 years ago versus what you get today and the difference in prices.

DLR raised food prices across the board over the weekend because, ya know, they weren't high enough and the company isn't making enough money.

I hate burying the most important note, but here goes: while UNI wound up having a great summer thanks to Diagon Alley's premiere there are LOTS of potential storm clouds on the horizon and funds are being chopped from future projects because ... well, UNI execs are almost as shortsighted as Disney's. It's not that Potter 2.0 hasn't been doing great. It's just not doing as great as the execs wanted and the results are trickling down to other projects. Yes, there will be more to tell about this. OK, I'll bold this.

I know this will go over great with the UNI fanbois (they can stick their fingers in their ears and/or take shots at me), but this is very well vetted info. It's real, it's actual, not everything at UNI is satis ... well, you know.

I want to thank @lentesta for offering his opinion on Lovable Lou Mongello. I appreciate his perspective. It doesn't change my overall opinion of the man or the slimy nature of his relationship with TWDC. But I do appreciate it.

I don't like the trend of lazy reporters (yes, Soup & Salad Sandra, I'm looking at you!) interviewing LIfestylers for stories. These people aren't regular consumers and even when offering honest opinions (such as Scarlett Litton recently on the $100 dessert in Cindy's Castle) they approach things differently than someone whose life doesn't revolve around theme parks. But with Twitter, it is so easy to get an opinion without doing any actual work.

I recently finished Dave Bossert's Remembering Roy E. Disney that was basically a collection of anecdotes about Walt's 'idiot nephew', many from Dave's work with Disney Animation where he got close to Roy over the latter's final decade of life. It's a nice short read for fans who want a little taste of who Roy Edward was and why so many liked him. But if you're looking for something deep about his life and his battles (both inside and out of Disney) then this isn't for you. Again, it was written by a friend and published by Disney. So very, very little about subjects you might be interested in (his relationships with Walt's kids, his relationships with Michael Eisner, Frank Wells, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Bob Iger, particular animators, directors etc) are delved into. I did love the anecdote about WDW Co. being too cheap to pay for Roy and his team to come to DAK to film intros for the True Life Adventure DVDs. Even after Roy paid to fly the entire group on his 737, TDO still fought him over paying for anything for his team, finally agreeing to comp their resort rooms, but refusing to pay for their meals (which Roy picked up). I think that little anecdote speaks volumes about the way WDW is run and why they do what they do.

Here's a Marcy quickee ...

The extinct attraction tees are insulting because the company is acknowledging the affection and looking for the absolute rock bottom way to profit off it (and I keep buying them.)

P.S. That D23 merch? Really? That's the best design? I've seen better adventurers club tees on redbubble.

I will never get that ...fans rewarding a company for removing/killing things they loved.

You will never see me wear a Horizons or WoM or Imagination tee ... you will never see me buy a new product based upon them. Never.

So sorry to hear about your family member. A family member of mine had an emergency earlier this year as well and we almost lost them. Here's hoping yours can pull through too.

On Universal, bummer. Hope the projects still turn out great. Does this affect King Kong at all or has the budget for that already been set in stone and safe?

Thanks. It is very, very touch and go. And it isn't here, so it makes things tougher.

Kong appears safe completely. Other things ... not ... and that's all I can say right now.
(personally, I'd rather them not build Kong at all and keep budgets safe across the board, but that's just me!)

Well that's a big disappointment from the BRAND obsession if I ever heard one. Who cares if they can't say MARVEL if they could still say GAURDIANS OF THE GALAXY? Do they really think people wouldn't put two and two together in their heads? With the movie being the surprise hit it was and the miraculous coincidence that it can be used in WDW I'm shocked they wouldn't want to capitalize on it. Then again, TDO......... Since when do they use logic? :banghead:

Rant over

It doesn't matter. It's all based on contract stipulations. And they, across the board, don't favor Disney in any dealings in Florida.

Disney is specifically not using "Marvel" for Big Hero 6 though, which I find interesting.

Anyway, I agree with you -- a GOTG attraction in WDW (heck, it would be an easy thing to build simultaneously at WDW and DLR plus any international park you want) would make sense if they could use the franchise. If they were to work on it ASAP, they could actually get something developed around the time of the sequel in 2017 (yeah, yeah, Disney slow and all that but they could if they wanted)

Big Hero 6 may have been inspired by Marvel, but Disney and John Lasseter have been quite vocal that this is their product.

And, yes, there does seem to be some 'animosity' between the folks in animation at Pixar and Disney and Marvel.

The only GoTG attraction you're likely to ever get at WDW will be their favorite kind of E-Ticket: a meet-greet-and grope.

To @WDW1974’s point, it would have been much more difficult (perhaps even impossible?) to get the project approved after P&R revenue headed south.

Timing is everything.

Based on the numbers, this seems particularly true for Cars Land.

That was my point, if I can recall where we were in the discussion.

The project was 6-8 months from not happening (and the way it was put to me seemed to indicate at all, not simply a more modest effort).

I wonder if DA would have done better had they announced a firm opening date much earlier, like say last winter. I know that wasn't really possible due to how much things were in flux up until the end, but I wonder if that impacted people's summer vacation plans. I decided to postpone my UNI trip until January 2015 and went to DLR this summer instead due to the lack of a definitive opening date when I wanted to firm up my vacation plans. Not sure how many other people this impacted though.

How bad do you think future budgets will be slashed due to this?

Part of what you describe as the problem (I think?), I see as the beauty. I don't want people who have real 'legitimacy' (whatever that is these days) on social media. To me, that means a script and a careful narrative because they want to target their "fans" in some careful and often dubious way. I want the ones who are real. I know rough does not equal real, but it seems to me these venues are more conducive to real than most legacy ones. I like real, even if it means some content that doesn't interest me.

I would prefer to have an open discussion, which you get in forums such as this one as opposed to just listening to folks talk about their opinions.

But we'll see how things go when my podcast is up and running! :)

I certainly would rather listen to honest opinions than closed narratives that are pushed by Celebration Place ... or UNI or whomever.

I understand your point, and we don't have to look too far past the Disney Blog to understand that. But, just as in here and in any forum for that matter, there are a lot of "experts" out there who frankly aren't, it's important to take several large grains of salt with you when listening to any podcast.

Yeah ... I have to run ... but that's a huge issue I have. People take the medium to somehow equate with legitimacy. Mr. XGY has a podcast on Dizzy World. He sounds serious. He's talking to other people. That means Mr. XGY is a real source of info on Dizzy. Um ... ahm ... nope.

But time to go hunt down some dinner.

Big Hero 6 is Disney's animation studio, not Pixar.

DA did great. Expectations were just a bit on the absurd side. And while the lack of an opening date likely affected some people's plans, I'll go out on a limb and say it wasn't that many. Again, it performed wonderfully when the summer wasn't great in O-Town at all as a whole.
