The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

I love Lord of the Rings, but am I the only one who doesn't see either Disney or Universal doing it justice? I'm sure I am but it being added to a theme park just doesn't thrill me like I know it should. I don't know why. If that's even what the news would be. But who knows? What else would really get the 'community crazy'? I'm not able to think of anything off the top of my head other than LOTR.

I agree 1000% @kman100. Tolkien is sacred text to me and should not be transferred into a theme park. I am already having a difficult enough time enjoying what Peter Jackson is doing with The Hobbit movies.

I am a fan of the LOTR movies, but only because Jackson had to focus mainly on subtracting rather than creating stuff to fill 3 movies.

I can just see it now, escape with the dwarves down The River Running in barrel shaped tubes! Barf.

That is, however, my humble opinion. I know that there are probably many people that would really enjoy a LOTR land/park. :)

After reading Mr. Spirit's review of his cruise through the Canal, I was very interested in doing this. I lived in the Canal Zone while my father was stationed there in the fifties. I was too young to remember. However, after pricing it out (for two), I realized I could probably do the Tokyo parks for only a little more. I would love to do both but can currently afford only one. Those of you familiar with the parks and cruise line, which would you choose?

Both give the level of service once associated with the "Disney Brand". I would like to experience that once again. Not that the US parks do not have things to offer, I am going to Orlando in October (visiting Sea World, Busch Gardens and US/IOA as well). I would NOT go just for Disney. I am going for HHN and WWOHP 2.0.

WDW1974...if you had to pick one or the other, your pick?

Can't speak for anyone else, but if you've never been to TDR, do that. Do DCL the year after, although I personally don't recommend DCL unless you get an amazing deal - they're overpriced beyond belief, IMHO.

The Hobbit movies are an atrocity--a thoughtful children's story mangled beyond recognition into not one, but three overwrought, violent, cynical, loud typical Hollywood exercises in excess.

An interview from May 31st yesterday with Cameron about pandora coming to AK. Mentions advanced navi animatronics and that there will be several attractions.

Omg, could those animatronics possibly be free roaming?!?!?! :jawdrop: Also it seems like Cameron IS pushing Disney to do their best work on this expansion, which is very good to hear. Say what you want about the story, but you can't argue the world of Avatar wasn't incredible. Man I'm excited for this :D

Cabin for a 7 night cruise for two - under $2500... 7 nights at a Disney moderate is basically $1500 alone.. plus another $810 for 7 day PH = $2300 before you've done anything but show up. DCL is not a discount cruise line - but it's not bat crazy compared to even modest WDW vacations. 2x is probably a good starting point for most scenarios... but I feel I get my money's worth on the cruise for most things. Hard to say that for much of WDW.

Well this got me pretty stoked! I'm extremely happy that Cameron made it a point to mention that there will be MULTIPLE rides and attractions. This proves that there will be a boat attraction along with the simulator. I can't wait til Pandora opens now!

I'd never recommend paying WDW resort rates either - they're absolute insanity. Considering I found DCL's food to be lacking, non-upcharge adult activities lacking and the shows mostly middling, I find DCL and WDW to both be horrible values for the exorbitant rates they charge. *shrug*

Which is why I would wholeheartedly recommend TDR to the poster above DCL, and WDW as well, although they made it sound like their WDW trip wasn't up for debate.

If I'm not mistaken aren't you <25 and kidless?

I do think dcl has a significant donut hole problem in the demographics it appeals to. I'd argue all the way from 18-35

I don't know if it proves anything, but it makes the rumored cut a lot less likely. Unless they go from a boat ride to a walk through attraction but it's hard to call that a ride. Either way as far as big Jim knows there are still multiple rides.

The AAs sound promising too.

With all the excitement over Diagon Alley and the Hogwart's Express opening this summer in O-Town, I bet y'all totally missed the fact Potter just debuted at UNI-Osaka. Looks like an improved version of Potter 1.0, which isn't surprising in Japan.

I agree with an earlier poster that I didn't think it was open yet either...

For those keeping score at home, UNI-Osaka is just behind Europe Park on my list of 'Must See' parks that I have yet to go to.

I would NOT go just for Disney. I am going for HHN and WWOHP 2.0.

Now obviously I chose to go so far be it from me to convince anyone to the contrary, but Uni Osaka was not really worth the trip. It's ok if you are checking out the Osaka region and want to check in for a night, but I don't think any of the Florida locals will find it that exciting. Certainly don't earmark too much time, it's better spent exploring Japan.

Potter may help (and certainly HHN has allure), but really you are just going to experience a bunch of clones and some classics that will make you realize why they were retired a long time ago (and I LOVE BTTF). Also the worst sight-lines unfortunately of any Disney/Uni park.

If you've already travelled that far Singapore is at least *different* and far better designed.

Perhaps it's just because Tokyo Disney is clearly ten steps up from WDW, but Uni Osaka is definitely a few notches down from Florida, it's just disappointing by comparison.

I dont think LOTR really lends itself to a theme park, a lot of it is set in really thick woodland, or on huge plains, neither of which are great environments to build rides, restaurants and shops in.

Plus no obvious attractions are coming to mind except maybe a river ride
Something similar to Soarin or Forbidden Journey that involves riding the giant eagles could be another possibility.
