It might have been GeorgiaPines something? I don't quite remember. But I do remember getting into an argument with a certain sandwich-monikered former member and using less than family-friendly language in my response...
That was one of the more spectacular blaze of glorys seen on these boards

Welcome back and thanks for taking one for the team

First, do you have any pics of the new look WLVs? And why do you like them (important as my SO is looking at buying points there)?

As to the removal of bedspreads and going with the white approach ... it's pretty much been the industry standard for the last 6-7 years now. Disney having bedspreads is akin to them having boxy TVs in their resort rooms (I recall them having them as recently as 2010 at the All Stars). They are so behind the time on lodging trends and options. I think that's one reason why folks thinking that RFID locks are something special. I had them in Europe and Asia as far back as a decade or so ago.

And with simple things, WDW just gets it so wrong.

Deluxe resorts shouldn't have the exact same throwaway tiny white towels at the pool. They should have bath sheets like high end resorts do. You're afraid people will steal them? Simple. Check them out at the gates that you are now installing at all the pools.

Don't homogenize a product to save pennies or fractions of pennies. People stay at Port Orleans or DAK Lodge or the BW etc ... have individualized cups, napkins, bags etc. It really does make a difference.

That's just a start. As to Aulani, where I haven't stayed, I'm sure the standards are higher because they have to be. Oahu doesn't attract the typical O-Town visitor. You can't get by on Pixie Dust there.

I don't have any pics of the VWL. I haven't been in them, and I don't recall where I saw photos now, but they looked nice. They are more subdued than the previous design, which I thought was a bit busy.

I agree with you completely on all of the little touches. What I'm saying is that I think it's difficult to execute theme AND luxury simultaneously in-room. I'd prefer them go for luxury, with design flourishes and details that convey the theme of the resort. Either way, the details should definitely be done better.

Here's what I had to say about Aulani in a blog post back in May:

That Aulani is incredibly nice should come as no surprise. It’s virtually brand new, has staunch competition from real-world luxury hotel brands on Oahu, and does not benefit from its proximity to a Disney theme park as a convenience-advantage. To the contrary, it’s a bit removed from Honolulu and Waikiki Beach where most of the major players are (having stayed in Waikiki and the upstart Ko Olina where Aulani is located, I’ll take Ko Olina any day of the week). Plus, in the more adult market of Hawaiian vacations, the Disney brand doesn’t have quite the same pull as the name does for families traveling to theme parks.

In other words, Disney had to come out swinging for the fences with Aulani in order for the resort to be a success. Fortunately, Disney did exactly that, and while the resort does command the typical Disney premium, arguably for what you are getting, it offers a significantly better value than any of the theme park-adjacent hotels in the United States.

I almost don't even want to know the news ... lol. Of course it won't be good. WDW seems to pride itself on making the poorest decisions possible.

Just like the night show at AK. It's still what, 2 years away (LMAO at that, by the way) and already it seems it's being hacked. Siiigh. And folks still truly wonder why fans are so disenchanted by WDW? No I'm not saying everything is horrible, but really, it seems everything that gets dropped has a "... but" and then reality sinks in.

The Guardians extended trailer was one of the highlights of my July 4th at TPFKaTD-MGMS. The film looks like a hoot and one that doesn't take itself too seriously (unlike the typical Marvel fare).

I don't agree at all. Maybe the Captain America films were a bit serious in tone, but otherwise I would argue that part of what has made the Marvel films so successful is the persistent humor and lightheartness. The Avengers was basically constant one liners. The way Downey Jr has played Tony Stark has just been so playful. The Marvel movies have largely just been having fun with themselves.

They don't resemble the Nolan Batman movies or even the 80's Superman movies which were very serious with dealing with their subject matter -- which as super hero movies should be far more whimsical IMHO. YMMV

I have worked on both sides of the PR business. I absolutely do not have a problem with it at large.

Disney is an entirely different animal. From running every word of every post on the DPB BY LEGAL before posting to paying off blogging and Lifestyler whores to treating real media like a word I can't type here, yeah, I have issues with Disney PR.

The fact that everyone acts like Mongello isn't a paid BRAND advocate is just the icing on an inedible cake. I hope they all choke on it and, one day, they will.

Gotcha. Thanks for the response. Just wanted your take.

Boy, oh boy, that evening was fun - but I have mentioned several times that it wasn't worth losing @GeorgiaPines1987 over.
Welcome back.
