Even the best of sources will occasionally have some pieces that tend to be of less value than others. I never said the site wasn't reliable, just that this particular article lacks the information to really be seen as insightful or worth anything more than a generalized "yep... lots going on in WDW right now." @seascape seemed to think that this was some kind of huge nod to actual reasons to get excited about WDW's additions in their parks, and that's the part that lacks substance. I even said in my original comments that I don't doubt that there COULD be reasons to get excited, but that the article doesn't give us enough to follow suit.

It's my own fault for not reading the article myself. It's not an actual article from TPI. It's a fanboi discussion board post. The layout of their website makes that easy to miss. TH Creative is not a TPI writer.

I haven't seen the full movie, but I have seen probably 85% of it (I manage a theater) and I will say that the movie really reminded me of the darker 80s kids movies that came out back when I was a kid (black cauldron, dark crystal, labyrinth, etc) that were just so wonderfully done...for what I have seen it is a good movie...

Oh, it looks like a good movie and I plan to see it eventually. I just meant that I wouldn't really call it a "family" film based on what I've seen from the ads because it doesn't really look like something that I'd look at and say, "hmm... my five year old, who gets scared easily, would like this."

*no, I don't have kids... but I have worked with kids of all ages enough to know that my maternal instincts would make me want to see this for myself and know what would scare my kids before letting them see it if I did have kids*

Theme park insider has a good story on the future of WDW and they even say, "If you are excited about Diagon Alley .... well, stay tuned. The very best is yet to come."

sider www.themeparkinsider.com/discussion/thread.cfm?page=179

Sadly that's merely a post by a board member like yourself. Not news nor substantiated rumour.

Someone in the know? Maybe. But I know a lot of things that haven't happened too.

I have a 6 year old and an 8 year old, and I wouldn't take them to see it. They saw the previews on the Disney Channel and were a bit freaked out about it. I definitely think it was meant for an audience of maybe 10+.

The Spirit pays for one.

I pay for six.

I think I have The Spirit beat. :D
Yikes!
Your vacations are all above the 4k figures, right?
Goes on Gringotts, a brand new ride that still has some bugs and breakdowns. No problem. Goes on Transformers, no problem. Goes on Spider-Man, break down.View attachment 58802
Mike.. you're cursed .. or uni hates you ;)

Were you having a conversation with yourself there? Or did I just read it wrong?
I think he was doing that for comedic purpose... like convincing himself to buy something he at first was reluctant.

Merry Christmas WDWMagic! 2014 Hallmark ornaments go on sale today!

Oh lord, @Animaniac93-98 why would anyone want to buy Christmas ornaments in freakin' JULY?!
Being old, I occasionally go to one of the local malls here in Raleigh just to keep the bones mobile. For the last two weeks when I passed by the Hallmark Store I could see a wall that had a tarp draped over it. Today, I went there and behold, there were all the Disney Christmas Ornaments (plus others) all neatly placed. One of the employees were wearing Minnie Ears, they had a table with cookies, candy, cheese puffs and lemonade out there for the customers. (complimentary). I asked the lady if they had any "Frozen" stuff there and all she could find were a couple of insulated large drinking cups. That was it. She said, that they were expecting the "Frozen" merchandise soon but she didn't sound very convincing.

In all fairness, I think @seascape (aka pete, aka whoever) probly sees signs in his bowl of cheerios and considers a nod to the parks.
I think you guys are wrong. Other than persistence, seascape, does not write anything like Peter. I'm not buying that this is who it is. By now, Peter would have confessed profusely just as soon as someone noticed it was him. He's like that, cannot keep a secret even if it's detrimental to himself. So, I think everyone, if they really care that much, should go back to the archives and see who else this might be. I doubt it's worth the effort though, it could be just somebody fairly new. That has happened you know!

The thing that the theme park insider article mentioned is that Disney's infrastructure build out is prepping them for the future. I think many of us realize that much of the Next Gen infrastructure changes are important to the future of the park. If this was the plan all along, bravo. But the thing is they rolled out components that the parks aren't currently ready for. Namely Fastpass+. Conversely, things like the Magic Bands are more likely for things that haven't been built yet either. But what likely happened is that Magic Bands were intended to be online around the same time as Hyperion Wharf. Much of the benefit to the company behind Magic Bands surrounds the psychology of spending. Magic Bands make it easier to separate guests from their money and Disney can claim that this benefit will be realized when Disney Springs opens. What's difficult to determine though is how much of that increased spending is attributable to Magic Bands vs. better merchandise?
If not now... when? There is never a good time to introduce a new system to a group of people that have the old one engrained in their minds and know how to "work" it. This is as good a time as any to get it in operation and give people the time to adjust to it. That's regardless of whether or not it is for future expansion or just a more connected system for use today.

Just wanted to say that I have visited the house where Nostradamus used to live!
Did it look futuristic? ;)

That movie was shot in my hometown of Mobile, AL, and tons of school kids were cast as aliens for the end scene. One of my college professors was also in the end scene. It was a kick to see him in the movie.
Excuse me ignorance.. I loved that movie but I do not have much memories regarding how the made it.
all the aliens that touched dreyfus were kids? I honestly expected puppetry and midgets.

did you had vague visions too? ;)

I liked it well enough that I saw it twice within 10 days. It does have dark scenes, especially at the end. I wouldn't take a young child who gets scared easily or gets upset when they think something bad has happened. I think 8 and up would love it. I think mom's will like it also. The scene with Angie and her daughter was so sweet.

For all intents and purposes, the Next Gen project is "complete" much in the same way the Magic Kingdom is "complete". There will be changes in the future, but it's unlikely anything will be drastic. But back to the crux of the article. Let's look at some of the changes designed to accommodate more guests:
  • Next Gen
  • Cinderella's Castle Hub expansion
  • Animal Kingdom Parking Lot expansion
  • Parking Garages as part of Disney Springs
  • Harambe pathway by train station
If this is the precursor to new attractions that will meet or exceed what Universal is putting out there, fantastic. Those of us that went to the D23 expo last year saw a version of the DISH/CAVE system on display. It was probably the most basic of these systems, but if the rumors of this being used for Star Wars is true it will be a step in the right direction. I'm even on board with an X-Wing spinner if Star Wars isn't the only property going into DHS. But with that is going to come a need for infrastructure improvements there as well. We know Star Wars is coming, but until we hear about parking lot expansion or a garage going to Hollywood Studios, I'd be cautious about Disney's own internal expectations for that park.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. For all intents and purposes, when has WDW had a solid plan about anything lately? Even rebuilding DTD was a fiasco.

Families only made up 45% of Maleficent's opening day weekend crowd. The main reason for Maleficent's success I think is this:

"It's also important to note that Maleficent was the first major Summer movie targeted toward women. At the risk of sounding redundant, women make up half of the population and half of moviegoers and will continue to reward movies with interesting lead female characters."

- Box Office Mojo

Maleficent is the third female-lead box office tentpole hit in the last 8 months. And neither Frozen or Hunger Games had anything to do with the typical Hollywood "chick flick" conventional thinking of what women want to see in a movie (the story of finding a man with shopping along the way). It's all proof that not every blockbuster has to star a male character or be male-centric to be a success.
Meanwhile.. Ubisoft insists that making female playable characters is "too time consuming"(and "too difficult").
And at same time.. Nintendo gives 6 female playable characters in the new Zelda game. lol

Since you mentioned Zelda I thought you would enjoy this little floor decoration in Gringotts bank. Look familiar?

Two of the aliens were puppets or marionettes, but all the little aliens were local school kids in costume. Wikipedia says they only used girls, but I am not sure if that's true. The only two I personally knew who were in the movie were girls. One went to high school with my older sisters and died quite tragically in a car accident right after high school. She had done a lot of acting and theater, and they listed some of her roles in her obituary. Sorry for the tangent!
