Despite the obvious placemaking issues (especially on the left half of the park), does this actually mean that Walt Disney Studios is no longer the worst park in the Disney lineup? That honour may now belong to Hollywood Studios. It certainly has the least number of rides.
I say it's high time Disney gets to work on a DCA style billion dollar overhaul of DHS. Starting with but certainly not limited to Star Wars Land whenever that happens. Then tear out the whole backlot and LMA for Pixar expansion. Also bring down the hat and update GMR while they're at it.

Doesn't Universal always match Disney's ticket prices?

Yep. That's why the joke was lame. Fallon did take shots at Uni gift shop/ride photo prices however. I find it odd how coffee mugs at Uni start at $16 when they're $12 and up at WDW. I found most things in the gift shops about 2-3 dollars higher at Uni. And if you think one Disney/parks stuff is bad, try looking for something IOA specific with the logo or a mug with Universal and "Orlando" on it that isn't sold out in Hollywood. Won't even get into their dollar-store-looking wannabe vinylmation figures...

HP cost 256mil, otherwise known as the price for one day at Disney.
The irony of that joke is one day at Disney is the same price as one day at Universal. Actually, it's less to go to Epcot, DHS or DAK ($94 vs. $96 at MK, IOA and USF).

Of course, Uni's pricing strategy makes it so you'd be a fool to buy a 1 day-1 park pass. They blow Disney away in pricing for the rest of their tickets.

Yup I understood that, just relaying the joke.

Wow, hate Universal much? Believe it or not, Universal's food and beverage prices are actually lower than that of Disney's. I actually compared the cost of a fountain drink in both parks on a recent visit. Plus, Universal even offers a cup that gives you unlimited free refills for the rest of the day. Disney has nothing like that in the parks.

The majority of Disney's "standard form" coffee mugs are $14.95. Universal's comparable "standard form" coffee mugs are $12.95. It's total BS that you think they start at $16. Disney's and Universal's offerings are pretty competitively priced.

And as far as Vinylmation goes... aren't Disney's dollar-store-looking too? lol Universal has very little in the way of vinyl figurines. They prefer to sell lots of detailed collectable magic wands instead. (Granted, they're just resin, but still.)

To be fair, I'm not saying one company is better than the other here. I just think your reasoning is very flawed and you have no reason for hating on Universal.

I don't know about merch with the IOA logo, because as a general rule I don't go to parks to shop.

But when I was walking through the air-conditioned shop at the front of USF the other week, I noticed attraction-specific merchandise for the Mummy, ET, Despicable Me, and something else, I think.

And I know I've seen souvenirs at IOA for Seuss Landing, specifically.

To bounce off that quickly, I just went to see 22 Jump Street recently and was astounded by the price of sodas at movie theaters these days. $4.50 at the cheapest, $6 for the largest. We can jump all over WDW and Uni for these things, and yes, they are overpriced, but they haven't come close to ridiculous prices like those yet.

So, I threw down the gauntlet last night. And NOT ONE person has come to me, or the other individuals who are widely respected here, with any proof that Star Wars has picked up steam and that things will close starting in January to make way for it.

In other words, I stand by what I said: just Disney trying to get attention away from the other guys in town. Pretty sad.
Do you think they would maybe just make an announcement to steal some thunder from UNI? but not really start anything for a couple of years? Like what they did with Avatar?

The difference between Disney's smarmy fakeness of creating 'memories' versus UNI's just delivering them was just showcased to the world on The Tonight Show in a segment where Jimmy and guest Kevin Hart rode the one coaster at UNI that I have even stayed off of.

Genuine emotion. Nothing faked. This isn't Stacy Aswad faking emotion on resort TV.

I hope UNI uses that segment in the future. Classic TV.

I felt the same way, nothing felt faked and while it's true Comcast is advertising their parks, it has one glaring difference to Disney right now. That difference being that you can see they are genuinely proud of what they're doing.

Side note, I love Jimmy Fallon.

Only $256 million for ALL of Diagon Alley? Even the Hogwarts Express? Boggles my mind how New Fantasyland apparently cost $500 million.

I just don't get Disney's bloated construction prices. Has anyone thrown the word embezzlement out there yet, and if not, can I be the first to wave that flag? I understand WDI is like the bully of building, but come on, it's like they're holding themselves and their parent company hostage. There's absolutely no reason why NFL ran over the 500m mark. Are they paying the construction crews extremely well? Solid overtime pay? I highly doubt they are using the best of the best construction materials.

Does anyone know the breakdown of that 500m dollars? How much WDI got, what the total construction materials were, the crews? I'd be very interested in seeing this divvied up.

Maybe I've been watching too much Orange is the New Black but something just isn't sitting right with that total cost.

A lot of Parks do that and while it is a good deal (as far as overpaying for soda can be a good deal) it is a pain to have to carry that cup around all day, souvenir or not. I wish they would just sell a drink pass for say $12 or whatever and then allow you to get unlimited drinks all day, in a 12 or 16 ounce paper cup. Maybe Disney could add that to their Magic Band thingy and voila, you can get your fill of liquid refreshment all day long. . .

Yeah, cups like that aren't a perk to me. Especially when you want to go on rides.

They probably offer the plastic cup and let it be your responsibility rather than all the wasted $$ in paper cups being used once and chucked, essentially not being paid for if using a refill program. It wouldn't be very cost effective.
