Since you asked ...

Offsite rates in Lake Buena Vista have been climbing in recent years. The local competition has been taking advantage of Disney's price increases to follow-up with price increases of their own, which probably helped
WDW's occupancy rate last quarter.

Excluding WDW, the average rate of the Metro Orlando area was about $102/night last year. It was highest in the Lake Buena Vista area (i.e. Disney's backyard), where the rate jumped almost 9% to about $113/night.

International Drive experienced a much more modest 2.6% increase, to about $112/night.

You still can get a cheap hotel along Route 192, where the rate averaged about $70/night.

When you look at these prices, the Port Orleans Riverside rate of $196/night (excluding tax) this summer is excessive.

Disney's Grand Floridian will set you back $627/night this summer. :jawdrop:

What's really scary is Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR). (RevPAR takes into account average daily rate and occupancy rate.)

In 2013, the Metro Orlando area (excluding WDW) RevPAR was $72.

WDW averaged over $200! :greedy:

Disney's hotels are cash cows.

Corporate Disney really should stop with the DVCs and start looking for ways to grow their hotel business. They already have nearly 24,000 non-DVC hotel rooms. Let's see them come up with a strategy to grow that to 30,000. (Oh, and actually fill them. :D)

Universal has a plan for more hotels. Let's see if Disney will set aside its ego and recognize that Universal has the right idea.

Build more at the theme parks and more paying customers will want to stay onsite!

It's a strategy that worked at WDW in the 1980s and 1990s. If done right, it can work again. :)

When it comes to WDW, corporate Disney needs to get out of the post-9/11 mentality that it's been operating in for nearly 13 years.

Staying at Royal Pacific in September for under $200 a night...

New Mexico would work.

Not sure where to put this......

So Frozen haters, have fun with this.

New-found respect for "Mr. Plinkett"/Red Letter Media. They make it look like they threw their Star Wars videos together, but in reality, it's hard work to make something intelligent and/or watchable.

(BTW, Dave, check them out--by the end you might not care about Episode VII spoilers anymore.)

But really, I didn't see anything in your original post that would incriminate you specifically regarding what was said. I thought you gave an upfront, honest opinion on what you've seen and what could/should have been.

Regardless, that was some interesting stuff. Is your next assignment in Universal?
They are getting quite clever in their research to determine who is posting what. for example, some of us that are more upfront about how we feel will say certain things in certain ways and those comments are looked for on the boards. You really don't know who you can trust to give feedback. Also, there are only a small number of us that speak out so that really narrows the list. If I'm in a meeting with only 4 or 5 others and I'm boisterous about a specific show element and that comment shows up on the boards people get suspicious. There are egos involved here and they don't like to be critiqued.

You and Flynn do not seem to get my point at all, because you are both so wrapped up in the "running is serious" stuff.

No it's because you keep preaching without the slightest dose of reality if what actually transpires or the consequences of it.

No one is saying keep the non-serious out. We are saying stop playcating to them at the expense of everyone else. Start actually enforcing legit seed times for everyone's safety, stop giving out finisher medals to non finishers deminishing the value for everyone, have more aggressive sweeping so races can be filled with people who actually prepare for the race.

You are oblivious to the consequences of failing to do these things are refuse to open your eyes because you've dug your heels in to protect the 'everyone should have a chance' crowd.

Do you even know how quickly these races sell out and how many people can't get in? Do you even know of the problems with the corrals?

The problem is people who are unprepared ( thank you crispy! Perfect description) have negative impacts on the event and other runners. Disney is not doing enough to fix it and rather continues behaviors that encourage the negative behavior.

If you had even the slightest awareness if what is going on( or at least the common sense to listen ) you'd see the difference.

But instead you droll on about what Disney could do but has already gone past or does... But does not enforce.

If you want to be part of the conversation - get informed first

A quickee review of SDMT from the most prolific poster in WDWMAGIC history (even four years after his departure to form his own Lifestyler BRAND). Since I only went to the fourth grade can someone translate for me? :D

Mine Train is VERY short but packs a good punch. Nice experiential scenes, a good dose of thrill and WITCH. I'm pleased. What's next? :-)

You make WDW sound like a religious experience.

There are limits, even in the magical world of Disney. People with back problems should not ride Space Mountain. I cannot ride Mission Space without getting sick. People who cannot swim need to be selective at the water parks. Severe diabetics should avoid Dole whips. And severely overweight people should not be in a marathon.
Believe me when I tell you that severely overweight people DO NOT sign up for marathons. That is a gross exaggeration. Perhaps people that didn't train and only have run a couple of miles a day might, but, this has been blown way out of proportion by everyone.

Morocco would have been a better choice, but they don't throw money at you.

Look, today with CGI you don't have to go anywhere. Do I prefer realism? Sure, although this is the film series that gave us Jar Jar. But what Disney is doing is using it positive BRAND image to help promote a Stone Age culture for money. And it just isn't right.

I'm not really all that familiar with this whole race Disney scene, but am I hearing this right that one of the complaints is that people who finish the race are upset that those who don't finish still get a medal? We are talking about adults here right?
