The Spirited Back Nine ...

I'd argue that even before all the closures the park didn't have much more than those rides to look forward to. So far, none of the things closed will impact my current travel plans. I did not shed a tear about American Idol closing, or Soundstage 1, or AFI, or Backlot Tour, or Narnia/Sparrow. I will not be impacted if LMA is closed, or Indy. Sure, there are a few attractions that actually would impact my enjoyment of the park, but so far, it's not happened. It's part of the problem. The park already had so little to do, closing down the very sparsely attended parts of the park can be done with almost 0 impact to the general population.

This my take as well. They've had a lot of closures at DHS -- and nothing is gone that I'll miss. Sure, I might pop into the Jack Sparrow thing or the Backlot Tour on occasion if I have time and am looking for something to do. I've never done AIE and don't do Indy or LMA often either so I won't be that bothered if they close. There's only a handful of stuff I really make an effort to do at DHS and they all remain open.

So, the closures don't really impact me directly or my opinion of the park much. They could of course cause other attractions that I do like to get busier, but I would suspect to see some drop in attendance with all the cuts so maybe it will kind of even out. If they add in some things I would like to see, like regular fireworks shows, I can't say I'd be unhappy about that. Regardless, I'm not going to WDW in the next year, so I'm hoping some new stuff is open at DHS by the tie I return.

Give it a few years.

There is nothing better than logging in here after being away for a while and finding a new thread by Spirit. These are the only threads I put any faith in. So thanks for all the info you supply to us. Having said that, does it make anyone else sad to know that DHS will be so barren for the next bunch of years? It looks like the only things I will be looking forward to on my trips there are ToT, RnRC, TGMR, and eating at the 50s Prime Time Cafe (ask for Tom as your server). Truly hoping they find a way to make the park interesting while they do all of these additions.

As far as UNI goes, I could not agree more that the area was done perfectly. Totally immersive. Gringotts was fun, but was a bit of a letdown. I feel that is only because of the buildup. When I go back in a year, I will probably enjoy it more because my expectations will be dropped.

Just curious if Spirit has any insight on what is going on with Soarin...my apologies if this has been answered in other posts, but I have been away for a while. Are they making another theater, are they changing the movie? Thanks!
Can I ask what about Gringotts was a letdown?
It isn't bad for a family ride. FJ is still better imo

Exciting stuff. I just hope rehabs for Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain are on the cards soon. Space Mountain is a complete painful mess and Thunder needs those Disneyland updates implemented as they're great.

I hear that about Space Mountain. Slam, bang, jerk...when I rode it last fall, I walked off of that thing with a crick in my neck that lasted for an hour. Where's the fun in that ride? It sucks as it is now IMO.

Disney's Hollywood Adventure doesn't sound right to me.

Agreed, Space Mountain is a total disaster right now. Spotty audio, lighting issues, broken queue effects... It's a shame.

It was more than Carsland, but they didn't get all entire make over that Disney announced. Disney announced that there was going to be 2 phases for the makeover, but they only did 1 phase.

Phase 1 was Carland, World of Color, Toy Story Midway Mania, Little Mermaid ride aka the same one as New Fantasy Land, main entrance and Sunshine Plaza turned into Buena Vista Street, and retheming 3 rides.

hmm...sounds doable for HS on the budget then. Cars Land should be a little cheaper as a "clone". Disney's money may go a bit farther in Florida than in California too...

I'm actually going to withhold all expectations about the re-do of Hollywood Studios.

Many of us get so hyped about new rides or lands, only to be disappointed that it didn't meet our expectations.

People hyped up both 7DMT & Gringotts so much... and even though both were exactly the "family" ride they claimed to be... people were upset about them not being thrilling.

I'm also concerned that Kong won't be as great as the hype says. :(

So as far as Hollywood Studios goes, I'm just gonna hope that whatever they put in, is better than what they remove or replace. But I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing. Especially when spirit said "carnie rides." :hungover:

The map: A lot of demo work all around.

Taking the Earful tower and moving to the park entrance, but with a better version of what was attempted at Walt Disney Studios Paris.

Looking forward into the new entrance plaza. On both sides of the Earful tower are faux warehouse or studio offices, big iron gates, similar to the paramount pictures studio gates, etc.

Did DCA get a makeover on their budget, or just cars land?

So this may mean Disney will create a new icon for the park?

If they're making over the park like this I can understand why they would want to replace GMR....

Besides Cars Land DCA also got World of Color, the Little Mermaid Ride, the Carthay Circle restaurant, completely redone "main street", Red Car Trolleys, new entertainment, new entrance turnstiles, re-themed rides and new dinning area in the Paradise Pier section of the park as well as a number of small cosmetic changes around the park.

what about the current dining at the studios, such as the Sci Fi and Brown Derby etc, will those stay as is with new additions or just be changing out all together?
There was an old rumor that scifi was closing. I hope that's false. Would like to hear that

Great info thanks! Muppets, and The Walt Disney Museum were not on his safe list, and I hope somehow they are salvaged through this process, truth be told I go to DHS for Muppets, the museum, and for the GMR. I'd hate to lose them, that said bring on the construction cranes, lets build and fix DHS, a sad decrepit 25 year old park.
