Thoughts on Frozen:
I liked Frozen. I think it's a nice change of pace for a Disney fairy tale having the story center around two sisters instead of the hackneyed hero/villain structure. The use of the paid tag line "Best Disney musical since "The Lion King" was a clear mistake because while I'd say the music is better than Rapunzel the marketing should be able to sell the film on its own merits. Now those merits are strong enough, to a degree. Let It Go is the highlight of the film song wise. It's a great ballad that takes advantage of Idina Menzel's talents and is probably the best Disney song crafted for a specific singer since the Eartha Kitt's cut "Sniff Out The Light" from Kingdom of the Sun/Emperor's New Groove. Other than that the songs work to progress story and introduce characters like Olaf, a character that was derisively called "Snow Mater" at one point who really works well despite clear reservations of some who were quick to judge, but they weren't particularly memorable. That fact alone makes it unlike Lion King where almost every song is memorable.
Having said that, I enjoyed Frozen and I went in with no expectations on purpose so I came away pleased. I look forward to seeing what Jennifer Lee directs/writes next and hope we see more from the Lopez's. Frozen was put together very, very quickly and I would like to think they will really, really get into Lion King/Aladdin/Beauty and the Beast territory the next time Walt Disney Animation does a musical from what they learned working on Frozen.

For some added context, my top films of the year (so far) in alphabetical order
12 Years A Slave
Before Midnight
Blue is the Warmest Color (Not for the kiddies, but try to see this if it is playing near you)
Frances Ha (On Netflix)
Gravity
Iron Man 3
Short Term 12
Wadjda

and maybe...

I will return to the kingdom as a CM after I "retire".... I will want to work seasonal....I will buy a condo neaby...the $ I make will be just to cover some expenses as it is very very hard to make ends meet as Hourly at WDW....last time I worked there, I JUMPED on every part time hour I could get (working at BTM, I was able to work overtinme at plash and Country Bear).
Why will do this? A) I love the place ad the history....I love beign a part of it and most of all, I love the ACCESS the ID card gave me....there is NOTHING in the world like parking myself on a bench on main street a few minutes before the gates open and watching the families coveredin big smiles moving into the park....taking our time and dining in EPCOT or escorting friends and family through the parks. That is a fine way to live in my 60's and I look forward to it!
You are my hero.

I am only in my mid-40's, but this is my dream for retirement too.

Did Spirit actually see Frozen? What made him say that Disney was paying for its positive reviews? Sounds like a baseless claim to me.

Other than the review calling it the best since Lion King none have really been off base. All the reviews I'm hearing from regular people have been glowingly positive, but maybe Disney is paying off random people in NJ too.

Another movie well received in the beginning was Tangled (and Frozen has already dropped its Rotten Tomatoes score below Tangled). In fact the praise i'm hearing for Frozen has been very similar in nature to that of Tangled (that it's the best since the 90's yadda yadda). I found Tangled to be a huge disappointment and more than a little shocked that people were trying to liken it to the Renaissance era Disney films (much like Frozen).

I have yet to see Frozen but I have my worries. Will go in with an open mind (though low expectations) and see what the fuss is all about. Hoping Frozen turns that around but nothing i've seen about it has alleviated my worry that it's just Tangled 2.0. From the soundtrack clips i've heard, the music hasn't impressed me either. I'll have to hope the story, characters and script can carry the rest of the movie.

I'd like to hear whether anyone who didn't really like Tangled much still loved Frozen.

Couple thoughts.....

First: why would miceage run an article that accuses without verifying any of it? I'd like them to be wrong .... Not for schadenfreude, but because I want that Star Wars expansion to be real and before I'm 50.

I am quite sure they verified large parts of it. The story isn't false. Some of their conclusions are.

Star Wars is quite real and happening on both coasts, but it has been delayed. They got that right.

The Muppets don't sound right. But glad to see them in prime time.

Agreed on both points.

Rickey is rather beneath my notice these days. What he does is his business. I do find it interesting criticising overreactions about rumors after the May the 4th rumors... Maybe he learned something? All I know is I don't care about him and his ilk.

I think they all are beneath me (doesn't that 'tude come through? if not, I'll have to work on it!) ...But they have become a very important part of the Disney propaganda machine and not simply Dr. Blondie's and the CP Funtime Gang, but all the way to Burbank.

If this had been a decade ago, every Disney site would have jumped on Miceage's very negative bandwagon and the web would be full of sites just ripping Disney management. Now, they all know to tread very lightly with anything remotely critical.

Besides, (you always get this BS line) Disney never announced any of these things, maybe they were just made up by those Miceage haters to begin with. You can't cancel what you never announced to the world with a press release or, better yet, a press conference, right?

These folks should have little to no cred, yet this Internet Era allows them to fake it. Funny how UNI doesn't depend on BRAND advocates to spread its message.

As for MM+, yes I had a good experience. Whether or not they work the kinks out, it must be examined "WHY" it was built. Plus the execution of the project as the failings of management. With these sorts of cost overruns, management culture has to be cleansed and changed. Everyone needs to go. And we need to make it work.

They need a fixer.... What's Steve Burke up to?

Exactly. Whether any one person or 100,000 come here and say 'we loved our MAGIC Bands and had no problems at all with them' doesn't fundamentally alter the critique of their cost and the value they bring to both consumers and the company. It's a disaster. Any front-line CM who has to deal with this will tell you the same thing.
