Stanza IV: Rhapsody in Blueprint
Behind The Scenes
One of the late developments to the competition, the first three challenges were all planned out sometime in January or February, but in late-March, early-April, after seeing how the first Stanzas went, both Red and myself wanted to try and up the stakes a little and try something different.
The original plan for Stanza IV - was actually something you already did!
Stanza I and II have been the same since the beginning...but the original Stanza III was moved around towards a future Stanza because we felt it fit better later in the competition.
But from extensive research into Team Air's Disneyland Brazil Resort project, we assembled the theme park you are working with right now, in order to present a scenario that 'feels' like a real Disney park, where most of these imagineering competition challenges tend to take place. If we could simulate that with a new location, not only would the new location open up doors in the future for more unique challenge locations, but also provide an open landscape for presenting the challenges.
Perhaps a few years down the line someone else wants to do a Disneyland Brazil challenge. They could either use this Resort and expand on the lore, or design their own and present it as the challenge. Or they could go anywhere. Madrid, Dubai, India, Australia, anywhere you want these types of simulation challenges can be reproducable and take competitions in directions that really have not been seen before! Because as the competitions add up over the years, there will come a point in time where it might be tough to come up with new challenges revolving around designing attractions in parks that have announced expansions and what not.
Time travel (in Stanza II), Hotels that can go outside Disney Resorts (in Stanza III), and now simulated resorts (in Stanza IV) are a few ways that we wanted to experiment with to expand challenge possibilities and see what worked for the next generation.
