Trip Report The "same old" crews-less than 48 hours-Disney adventure!!

Hello all & welcome!! I'm excited to be posting another TR so soon!! This was a super short, last minute trip with the main purpose for going being the AP preview of SWGE(even though none of us have ever seen the movies :hilarious:). Here is an excerpt from my last TR just to give you some background on how this trip came to be:

Jul 27, 2019
On Thursday while hard at work I checked my personal email:p(in all fairness some work things come to that email). I see that at 11:02 I got the email invite for the Star Wars Passholder Preview. It was 11:04 so I thought there might be a chance so I tried to register. Stitch ate the page more times than I could count & I kept "waiting in line" forever. Don't worry--I worked while all this was going on:D I wasn't really concerned if I got it or not b/c I haven't as much as seen a Star Wars movie a day in my life. I looked at it as getting it would be an excuse to have to go to Disney;) At one point I saw something on the screen that I hadn't seen before & I got a little excited. Finally, at 12:25 E, J & I were registered for the event!!

I called E and she told me she didn't think they were going to go. I figured I would go by myself for a super short trip so I started looking up flights & room rates. I was ok with going by myself but I wasn't totally thrilled. As the day went on I kept thinking about how disappointed I was that J wouldn't be there. The heck with my sister but I knew I would miss him!! That evening she was at my house & as I was sneaking J Skittles & jelly beans🤫 it took all it had in me to keep my mouth shut. I wanted so bad to plant a bug in his ear about being able to go to SWGE & hoped he would work on his mom. But, I kept quiet b/c I didn't want him to be disappointed about not being able to go.

On our walk yesterday morning I brought it up again. I mentioned what I was seeing for room rates & flight times. She didn't want to spend a lot of money b/c we were just there & we're going again for a week in November. She said that maybe her & I could go for just one night and she would leave J at home. I wasn't going to let that happen! I said that I thought his feelings would be hurt & he was too young to understand why we wouldn't take him. She said it would be easier since we would really be on the move with such a short time frame. We're also limited to what flights we can take with him. She doesn't like taking real early or late flights with him which I get but they are usually the cheaper ones so it would cost even more if he came. We started talking about how many flight points we have & we all had enough for free flights. I told her there is a flight that leaves at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon & one that comes back at 2:00 on Thursday. We would be there less than 48 hours but something is better than nothing. I told her that we could stay at one of the All Stars or AoA to save a few dollars since it would be a short trip & we wouldn't be at the resort that much(even though it about killed me to utter those words!)

Within an hour of getting home from our walk while getting ready for work & having a few phone conversations with her we had everything booked--airfare, hotel & FP's!! We're going to Disney--in 24 days!!😍 There's not even enough time to order Magic Bands--not like we don't have a few spare ones laying around!! We will only have time to go to 3 parks. HS & MK are a given. I told E to let J pick the 3rd & he chose Epcot.

I'm so excited that we're ALL going!!

WHO: I doubt introductions are needed by now :hilarious:

WHEN: Tuesday, August 20th - Thursday, August 22nd

WHERE: That's kind of like answering the "who" part of this:hilarious: I know I mentioned above about staying somewhere a little cheaper but E still wanted to stay at POR(👏). And so much for saving any $$$--all they had available was Royal Guest Rooms!!

We had a 1:05 flight so I met E & J at their house at 10:30 and we were on our way!! This was the discussion on the way to the airport:
J: (notices I'm wearing my magic band)Aunt Patti, how did you get one? We didn't get them in the mail.
Me: Neither did I, it's one I had at home.
J: Mom, what about us? Did you bring them for us?
E: Yes, J.
J: Mom, did you bring my suitcase?
E: Yes, J.
J: I didn't see you put it in the car.
E: I did it this morning while you were sleeping.
J: Oh, ok. Mom, you forgot to pack Duffy didn't you?
E: (totally irritated at this point) He's in your suitcase J. Maybe you should do your own packing from now on!!

She proceeded to tell me as they were walking out the door he wanted to know where his iPod was so he could take pictures!! She said that she had actually forgot it so she was glad he asked for it before it was too late!!

We arrived at the airport at 10:55. While E went to park the car J & I headed through security.

As we were waiting for the stroller to come down the belt a TSA agent approached us & asked J if he would like this activity book. She said it was left there & she would throw it out if someone wouldn't take it. We thanked her & made our way to the "monorail".
IMG_2500.JPEG

Then directly to the store for his traditional car.
IMG_2501.JPEG

So many choices.....
IMG_2502.JPEG

He decided on a red jeep.
IMG_2503.JPEG

We walked by the macaroon stand & he said he wanted one. I told him I would buy it but he couldn't have it until after he ate his lunch. He said he wanted the brown & yellow one. It said that the flavor was Bailey's Irish Creme. Just wanting to be sure I asked the guy working there multiple times if there was any alcohol in it. He didn't speak very good English so we had a hard time communicating. Finally he understood what I was asking & assured me there wasn't.

No
It definitely is not a ride or shop so I guess it's just something to look at?
It's the entrance to Rise of the Resistance that will open in December

Chewbacca was out working on this "fighter jet??"

That's either an A-wing or an X-wing

The ceiling of that particular(sorry, I don't know what it's called)gift shop.
Looks like the Droid Depot

No clue...but again something to just look at. No access....
That's a TIE Fighter

"bright sun"(I still don't understand all that BTW).
It's their greeting for "Good morning/afternoon" If it was night they would say "Rising Moons"

Star Warian
I *love* that. :hilarious::hilarious:

Hope that helps!! :D

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21ST

Ok, here it is....the moment you've been waiting for.....SWGE!!(Complete with probably the worst commentary EVER in a TR considering I didn't understand the majority of what I was seeing. Consider yourself warned.....)

I had heard that the line to get in at the start of the time windows was long. Since we ended up not getting there until 12:30(our time was 11-3) we did not experience that. At the area where the red umbrellas are you had to show them the paper copy of your reservation & your photo id. After that you were directed around the umbrellas & some trees to another group of CM's who scanned your MB. I really didn't understand why the paper was necessary. I can see the photo id but whatever....who am I?
View attachment 402830

I must mention that the dialect of the CM's had me quite confused--of course, it doesn't take much to confuse me!!🤣 But I would have to assume they were doing a good job of keeping with the Star Warian language or whatever it may be called.
View attachment 402831

View attachment 402832

And we're in!! The area when you first go in is pretty big & wide open. The walking areas are much better than what's in TSL but unfortunately like TSL there isn't much in the way of shade. Actually, the whole land is that way🥵
View attachment 402833

I thought the trash cans looked very interesting.
View attachment 402834

I'm sure it will be of no surprise to you that I have absolutely no clue of what this is. It definitely is not a ride or shop so I guess it's just something to look at?
View attachment 402835

People were waiting in line to get their picture taken in front of this. I believe R told me it's a fighter jet??
View attachment 402836

I was quite interested in looking at the merchandise stands b/c I wanted to pick something up for R. I had no clue what though.
View attachment 402837

I did think this was cute. Chewbacca was out working on this "fighter jet??" I was a bit confused though. I thought he only worked on the Millennium Falcon. Can someone clarify that for me?
View attachment 402838

The public does not have access to the area. One can only look from afar....

That guy in that Wookie costume should get hazard pay for wearing that in Orlando in August.

Thank you & I am glad I don't remember it! Slid into one of the managers cars:oops::oops::oops:...oh boy. How did they take it?

I'm hoping to get the Star Wars posts up today🤞 I don't know how well my take on it is going to fly on here but I will be honest in my feelings on it.

Thankfully really well it's been an issue for years of who's job it is to grit the car park when it is iced over because we enter on a slight slope so breaking is useless it added fuel to her argument that the 6am shift should do it as they are here first!

Just about to have a read on your SWGE thoughts

I was so happy to see that you posted your TR for this quick getaway!!! First off, so sorry about your car accident and I'm glad that no one was hurt. I know I've said this in your other TR's but J is just the cutest little boy!!! I love how he was so intense on his car selection at the airport and how he has his routine of reading the safety instructions on the plane. :) It's too bad that the resort reservations weren't linked together so that you could try and keep your locations close to each other. I am not a Star Wars fan at all and am not excited about this new land in the least although I'm sure we'll check it out for our October trip. Hopefully the other attraction that opens in December will have the WOW factor like FOP. I'll be back in December too so maybe I'll have the chance to see what it's all about. It's too bad that your server at 50's Prime Time wasn't into playing the role which is really what that restaurant is all about! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your day.

So glad you are not a "Star Wars" super fan, because it seems like some of us here also are not. I feel like I'll appreciate the SWGE land when I go, but I won't be over the moon with it....my husband on the other hand.... 🤩🤩🤩🤩:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:

My take on the ride.....you know that "WOW" feeling you got after the first time you rode FOP? Yeah, well that didn't happen here. It was a step above Mission Space but not by much. I hope I'm not being too unfair. Maybe if I was a SW fan I would have been a bit more impressed. But, I'm not sure that not being a SW fan has anything to do with it. When I rode FOP for the first time I had zero clue of what Pandora was about & I absolutely loved that ride. My understanding is that the other ride in SWGE is going to be the WOW one. But, I am glad I rode it--esp. with pretty much no wait.
I'd seen the Avatar movies, but wasn't a big fan. That said, I LOVE FOP!! Just a fun ride and you don't have to know anything about it to enjoy the ride!:geek:

-My drink was excellent!! I would recommend it!!
I love RUM drinks so there were a few drinks on that menu I'm eagerly anticipating!

-Smuggler's Run isn't supposed to be the WOW ride of the two but I still think it could have been better
-The wide walkways are great but the lack of shade isn't pleasant
-I would have to assume the shopping areas are made to make you feel like you're in the movie but they are just too darn small

I understand how Disney doesn't want two WOW rides per land (ex: Pandora, TSL, SW:GE) but they could make a bit more of an effort. For example, I wish the Navi River Ride was maybe 5 minutes longer or had a tiny drop or something else. If the SW:GE ride you went on is like Mission Space in STAR WARS theme, that's disappointing in the fact Disney isn't stretching their limits on making that ride AMAZING.

Guess I'll find out when I get there in 2 years!

Ha ha. Someone on this forum has already seen Jack and had a photo but as he was busy he didn't get any info. I'm sure he will pop up on someone's report😁
Hopefully mine in November!! 🤞
I hope J got a chance to read this one, too! ;)

Like you, I'm not a huge Star Wars fan so I'd be a bit lost in that land, too. My hubby loves SW so I'm sure he'll happily explain everything to me (even if I don't ask )
That he did!! Sad thing is, I was probably more lost than him reading it!!🤣

R tried with me but I just couldn't follow it....
Love the commentary! I also know absolutely nothing about Star Wars so I understood everything you said.
Perfect!!:D
I totally appreciate your commentary on Star Wars. I wouldn’t have a clue what any of that stuff is either! 🤷🏻‍♀️
This is great!! So far it's me, you @Zipitidoda in the same camp!! I thought I was going to be alone in this but I'm pleasantly surprised & I feel much better. There's safety in numbers!!
All your photos look spectacular but unfortunately I don't know what I'm looking at lol. I will show them to hubby and I'm sure I will get my education 😉
#4!! We're growing!!
Finally here. Am I too late???
Loved your assessment of SW:GE btw!
Absolutely not!! I hope you had a great time!!
Thank you!! Are you a fan??
From what I gather Bright Suns = Good day
Makes sense.....I guess.....
Hi, first, sorry so late to your trip report, just finished mine and was very slow getting it done! Enjoying following along!
Second, again I'm bummed we wimped out and didn't get to run into you at EPCOT. After our time in GE I didn't have any energy left in the tank!
Third, I'm very glad you weren't injured in the car accident, so scary!
And, I think that pic above is the future entrance to Rise of the Resistance! If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Oh yeah, and one more thing, I'm jealous, they weren't handing out those cool flyers of the land when we were there!:(
Glad you're here!!
It's all good. We really weren't there that long so who knows if we would have run into each other!
Thanks! Scary how fast things happen!
🤞
I don't know if you're a collector type person but I still have the flyer & it's in good shape(not folded or anything). If you would like it PM me your address & I'll send it to you.
That lady staring at you taking the photo looks super unimpressed.
Do you blame her??:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
Do I get a pass for being late because I am at WDW? 🤞🏻

However Em has been bugging me for the past couple of days. “Mom, you HAVE to read @riverside ‘s report! It’s hilarious! She writes the commentary for Star Wars Land like we would!”

Em was right. 🤣

And now you understand all my “HaHa’s” instead of “Likes”.

Love your take on the land. Between this report and the reports I am seeing about the grand opening this morning, I am seriously considering bagging our planned DHS day tomorrow.

And I cannot stress enough just how  I am about cutting costs by eliminating lotion (and aloe) from the DELUXE resorts too! I thought we had been overlooked at WL earlier this summer but nope, that’s how it is everywhere now.
You know it!!
Thanks @TrolleyFollower91!! I guess that makes you two #'s 5 & 6?
I'll be interested to hear if you went or not. Not being a fan I would skip it b/c that many people is just not fun for me!!
Don't even get me started on the cost cutting measures....
I have a feeling me, @blreinsel and @Doc Disney are going to feel the same as you about Galaxy's Edge :hilarious: It's been discussed how indifferent we are toward Star Wars. I am at least familiar with what things are though 🤣
7,8 & 9!! I really wish I would have been more familiar. Maybe I would have enjoyed it a bit more.
Me 3 or 4 or 5th! I could care less... but dh is excited.
At least someone is, right??:hilarious: I'm really surprised at the amount of people that don't care for it--for whatever reason. I really thought I would be one of very few that felt that way.
Agreed! You lasted longer in SWGE than I would have, there's only so much dusty rusty metal I can look at in one day 😂
WIth you & @Rista1313 we're in double digits!! Rusty metal---that about sums up quite a bit of what I saw that day!!
It's the entrance to Rise of the Resistance that will open in December
That's either an A-wing or an X-wing
Looks like the Droid Depot
That's a TIE Fighter
It's their greeting for "Good morning/afternoon" If it was night they would say "Rising Moons"
I *love* that. :hilarious::hilarious:

Hope that helps!! :D
Yes--that helps quite a bit. Thanks for taking the time to clarify some things for me. I guess my issue is that I'm not into science fiction at all then you throw in a slightly different language & I just kind of give up. At least I will know what I'm looking at next time I go there thanks to you!!
That guy in that Wookie costume should get hazard pay for wearing that in Orlando in August.
Amen to that!! I noticed that most of their costumes looked heavy. I didn't envy them in the least.
Love your commentary on Star Wars land.
Thanks!! I was quite nervous about posting b/c I really didn't have much to say....
Just curious--fan or not?
Thankfully really well it's been an issue for years of who's job it is to grit the car park when it is iced over because we enter on a slight slope so breaking is useless it added fuel to her argument that the 6am shift should do it as they are here first!

Just about to have a read on your SWGE thoughts
That's good to hear. That seems to make perfect sense to me!!
I was so happy to see that you posted your TR for this quick getaway!!! First off, so sorry about your car accident and I'm glad that no one was hurt. I know I've said this in your other TR's but J is just the cutest little boy!!! Thanks for reading! No one getting hurt is the most important thing, that's for sure. J is a hoot that's for sure!! I never thought about linking our reservations b/c for the most part we normally end up near each other. Maybe that was just luck? Funny--the whole purpose of this trip was to see SWGE when neither of us are fans!! Really--I looked at it as an excuse to go to Disney. I am glad I got to see it with minimal crowds b/c having no interest in it I definitely wouldn't have done it with heavy crowds. October & December--that's exciting!! More often than not the servers at 50's are into the role so I guess I was due for one that wasn't. Thanks!!
I loved your SW commentary. It was refreshing to see some just experience it not through a superfan’s (or a SW hater’s) eyes.
Thank you!! I'm definitely not a hater. Hard to hate something I know nothing about??:) I am interested to hear opinions from people who are fans & then the "cult" as I call them. I asked R the other day what it is about Star Wars that makes me feel like it has a "cult-like" following. His response, "Patti, there are fans & then there are fanatics".

Like I said in one of my comments in my last post I'm really surprised at how many feel the same as I do. I really thought I would be in the minority on that one. R is pretty excited to see it also!
I'd seen the Avatar movies, but wasn't a big fan. That said, I LOVE FOP!! Just a fun ride and you don't have to know anything about it to enjoy the ride!:geek:
It is a great ride. I always say that & Forbidden Journey are tied in my book for the best rides ever!! I ended up watching one of the Avatar movies after I rode FOP & I wasn't impressed with it but I still love the ride. I think a lot of it has to do with the "type" of movie that it is. It's just not me....
I love RUM drinks so there were a few drinks on that menu I'm eagerly anticipating!
That one was really good!! For $15 it better be!!

I agree. One thing I forgot to mention is that the buttons you had to push(like you do on MS)were on your side. At that, you had to take your eyes off the scenes in front of you to activate them.
2 years will be here before you know it!! Time flies!!
I'll be your pop culture reference any time if I know the answer!
Awesome!! I very much appreciate that!! I'll buy you a beer in November for your troubles!!

I don't want to hijack your trip report, but there seem to be a lot of, do you love or hate it comments/questions.
Having now been able to experience SWGE, my opinion on the whole, love or hate Star Wars (movies), not the land, is more along the lines of-you need to see the very first movie (from the 70's), and maybe the last release. Then you can "get" SWGE better.
It's just like at Universal with the Harry Potter lands. I feel you should at least read the first book (or watch the first movie), before you go, and then you will be able to appreciate the lands much more.
I thought SWGE was very cool, but like you, there is no way I would wrestle with the crowds seen at opening day yesterday to experience it. I don't know what we will do when we go next year and RoTR is open, because I definitely want to experience the ride.

Not hijacking at all!! I enjoy the discussions!!
When I went to Universal a few years ago I did exactly that. Watched a few of the HP movies & read a few of the books. Not really my sort of thing but I wanted to be able to "appreciate" what I was spending all this money on!!(I was taking my niece b/c she was a huge HP fan). I was glad I did that b/c I did appreciate what I was seeing. I will say though, HP isn't my cup of tea either & once I got back I never read any more of the books or watched any more of the movies.
A few weeks before this trip I attempted to watch the very first movie. I tried really hard to like it & to get into it. R was even impressed with me. Then I fell asleep for the bulk of the movie!! I really tried but it just didn't hold my attention in the least bit. I wish I would have liked it so I could appreciate what I was seeing.
I guess you could say that I just didn't have an appreciation for it. But I did have a dislike for the lack of shade & how tiny the shopping areas were.
Those opening day crowds looked totally crazy!! There is absolutely no way I could do that. Remember, if you want the flyer let me know!!
I am a huge Star Wars fan and I loved your commentary! It was fun to see the land through your eyes. Excited to see it for myself in a couple of weeks!
Thank you very much!! I hope you have a great time & appreciate it more than I did. I'd love to hear what you think when you go!!

I met back up with E & J. J had one more ride he really wanted to go on so A.S.S. it was!!

Look what hat he ended up getting!! That 20some minutes he spent in SWGE must have really left an impression on him to warrant a hat!!
IMG_2741.JPEG

It was a fun ride as always!!
IMG_2742.JPEG

I must say, I was really impressed with the colors in this picture.
IMG_2743.JPEG

J wanted a banana(boy, was that kid ever hungry that day!) so E took him to Starbucks. I wandered around & ended up buying R the same hat that J got.

As much as I really want to see SWGE I feel like I’m going to be just as lost as you when we visit in November/December ...
To me it will be some flying things, some robot things and somewhere I can get a cocktail!

That cocktail was great!! I hope you have fun!!

The SW hat look great on J and I'm betting it was a bit cheaper than the Halloween light up hat he originally wanted!;) I'm sure R will love the hat too! I can't wait to see the Skyway ride operating when we visit in October!!! Good move on heading over to MK when you did. Looks like the new security area is much larger with more shade for those hot sunny days.
