The Park Formerly Known as Disney's Hollywood Studios? Yep ...

I guess I'm the only one that finds this unoriginal, cheesy, and too much like the current name?
That's okay, because it seems that it's all up in the air once again. Per He Who Must Not Be Named on these boards, the name tested well in the focus groups (I have no idea why) but it has been determined that it doesn't really fit the direction they are going. Lucasland probably fits the best, but that would definitely (and deservedly) not test well.

You do realize that not everyone can take a vacation and spend an extra 100+ dollars per person plus hotel rooms and time off work/school so they can ride a couple of Disney rides in Universal. Also, I wouldn't mind if they had the same themes, I could go to Uni less that way.
They should spend a few hundred less at disney then because I'm 100% sure their handling of the marvel properties would be terrible. Their money would be better spent with Universal and the people that are bushing out quality attractions at a feverish pace.

I don't know that I think that's fair. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is great and The Incredible Hulk Coaster is good, but the rest of the land is nothing to write home about. And nothing new has been added to Marvel Super Hero Island in quite some time, to my recollection. I think Disney has done a good job with the movies and could in the theme parks as well. I mean, probably not in my lifetime, but you, know, someday. ;)

The problem is, I could go to Disney for 4 days, or Disney 1 day and Uni 1 day. This is a big difference.

I just can't see that - they aren't going to invest even more to pimp the competition's product.

I honestly don't think that Universal is all that heck bent on keeping Marvel. They've been content with it for awhile, but eventually - I think that's a very large plot of land that could be very easily re-purposed for something else they have the rights to that isn't nearly as complicated.

I mean, when you think about it - they could re-theme MSHI practically overnight. Besides Spidey itself, the other attractions and features are all flat facades and signage that makes it "Marvel", which are easily replaceable. Close up Spidey and re-theme it, and they are all set.

Ten years ago, getting rid of MSHI would have been unthinkable - it would have been like losing a major organ. At this point, post-Potter (and Simpsons, and Transformers, etc.) it's more like a gall bladder. It doesn't hurt to have, but it really isn't a great loss to lose.

Given how forward thinking, and moving, Universal has been - I have no doubt that plans have already been drawn up for that eventuality, when they have something else they want to put there.

"Its business, baby. Straight Cash."

It may be strange bedfellows but it really is a win-win proposition here. Its in everyone's best interest for MSHI to stay current.

considering the popularity explosion of Marvel in the recent years.. It would be very stupid to let go the rights at Uni.
Characters and IPs DO attract people
Stranger things have happened..... especially if a few people quietly got in bed together when no one was looking....

Possibly expect an IP jumble in the not too distant future.

Yes, but, unless I'm mistaken, they're restricted to the comics versions. For example, if they wanted to do something to cash in on Big Hero 6, it couldn't look a thing like the movie.

Exactly. To be successful in the the current media landscape, companies have to work together and compete with each other simultaneously.

Potter may not be causing WDW much heartburn with attendance, but I'm sure it is stealing merchandise dollars away from MSHI which does hurt Marvel and Uni. It makes sense that change is coming. (now I wish we could get some hints)

I could see Uni granting a deal to allow Disney the use of some characters that they have the film rights to, especially newer characters that Uni hasn't used yet (Guardians, Ant-Man, etc.).

Or at least formally clarifying which characters are available to which party (rather than leaving it up to lawyers to determine who is in which "family").

I can't see Disney being satisfied with anything less than everything long-term. And by "Disney," I mean Bob Iger's ego. And, long-term, I would imagine Universal would rather have rides that cross-promote their own films, too. Most of Marvel Super Hero Island, as designed, could easily be rethemed to really anything. A coaster, teacups, drop tower, and 3-D simulator.

Anything that keeps the fat cash rolling in. Bob has an ego but he loves that stock price....

I would imagine the most irritating attraction to Disney would be the Spider-Man ride, especially now that Disney wants to relaunch (again) the series. The rest of the land is largely just themed with paint, but I would imagine Disney wants to use Spidey now. As you say, though, only if the price is right. Otherwise, they'll just add him to one of the foreign Disneylands.

The land is a bunch of cutouts.... was not impressed with the area at all since I expected so much more.

I just don't see Universal giving it up though. They may allow certain things to be moved but no way they lose Spidey....
