The Park Formerly Known as Disney's Hollywood Studios? Yep ...

I don't really care about the name change. I just hope it's an actual sign that they are going to change the direction and focus of the park. If they close backlot tour, LMA and Indy they will have removed almost everything related to a "working studio". Streets of America is all that would be left. Ironically the front half of the park is pretty well themed to Hollywood of old. I can't see them changing that and don't want it to change. If the back end becomes "sections" based on Disney's various studios as rumored it kinda makes sense to keep the name. Maybe just change to Disney's Hollywood + Studios.

I actually think if they just want to change the name just to signal a change in direction they could change it to something like Hollywood Kingdom or Movie Kingdom. You already have Magic and Animal kingdom. Why not keep the kingdom naming convention. Then all you need to do is change EPCOT to Drinking Kingdom or Food and Wine Kingdom. Whole resort change over.

The "Hollywoodland" sign that existed years ago was there to promote housing development in the suburbs nearby. It had nothing to do with the entertainment business or fame. So calling DHS "Disney's Hollywoodland" literally sounds like "Disney's Suburban Housing Development".

So ... they named their retail environment Disney Springs which sounds like a care home for your old relatives.

At least Disney's Hollywoodland sounds catchy.

This could be interesting depending on what the new name is. All I'm thinking is why change it again? Just weird, to me at least.

I'm with you on this, but this is Disney. They can't build a bus stop without a backstory and a "theme". They should learn their lesson from Universal. Islands of Adventure is a huge catch all. It can pretty much have anything in it. Disney gets in their own way at times trying to be too specific with back stories and names. I hope this time they go much more generic with the name so we don't have endless debate on whether XYZ fits the narrow theme.

There is a section of California Adventure called Hollywood Land. I direct people to the dedication plaque for MGM Studios, that could still remain relevant:

Disney MGM Studios

The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood - not a place on the map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was - and always will be.

Disney's Hollywood Land, Disney's Hollywood Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Adventure would all be acceptable.

I honestly dont think keeping it "studios" is that big of deal. I doubt the common guest thinks twice about it. Even the small percent that do, I really doubt they go in expecting to see movie studios everywhere. I like the current name when taken figuratively not literally, which I think is what's happening anyway.

Maybe the other DHS Redo thread should be tied into this one. I feel like both are slowly (or not so slowly) evolve into the same discussion.

Why not just rename it Disney's Studios? Simple and straightforward. Hollywood Kingdom sounds terribly confused. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom make sense because magic and kingdoms go hand in hand in stories, and the "Animal Kingdom" is a real thing

The only problem is I'm assuming the point of the name change is they want to get rid of the studio part of the name since they are removing the last parts of the "studio park" concept. The Hollywood part of the park is staying.
