Is anyone watching the opening ceremony?

I thought the first hour or so was very impressive, nothing too grand but I think it worked well. Some very impressive performances! At the moment all the teams are coming out, which is slightly boring - although I think they're almost done so I think we can expect good things (hopefully!).

Something that I thought looked especially good was when the stadium was filled with water and they illustrated the Olympic rings in flames, and then showed it from above.... very impressive.

I'll be flipping between the opening ceremonies and the New Orleans' Saints first preseason game of the 2004-2005 season. Aaron Brooks isn't playing tonight...YAY! It is cool that the Olympics are back where they began!

I saw it all here in the UK, the time difference being a bit better here. The first part of the ceremony with the history of Greece parade thingy was amazing (more reasons to add Greece to WS!!) but I got a bit bored with the parade of countries as it took soooooo long. There were some countries I didn't even know existed! Go Great Britain/United Kingdom! (whichever we are calling ourselves!)

So the opening video just began....why the heck did they start it off with the Jurassic Park theme? Seemed pretty odd to me.

I'm not really a Summer Olympics guy (I like the Winter Games better), but I'll watch USA basketball, even though they're not that great.

im on a 15 min tape delay due to the huricaine.... so the answer is that the olimpics are more important than the huricane in Tampa....

(no commericals instead looking at weather...) it begins in one min for me... cannot wait.

I wondered the same thing about Jurassic Park. At first, I couldn't place the music...then I realized what it was. Maybe because Greece is such an ancient country...like dinos? :animwink:

I agree! Add Greece to WS! Herculese could go the distance there! Maybe have a little Parthanon on the Acropolis?

The jurassic theme was a soft and musically melody that it worked well with that they were showing. I thought it was a good choice... less expensive then making new music... just pay the right for something they own part of.

Nice touch with the purcussionists and the chellenge type thing. With the fire light the rings on fire... very good...

Wow! Talk about amazing. The parade of nations is starting right now, but the Greek history thing made me go wow! Plus I really liked the mist screen with the laser DNA. THe main thing I thought was weird was the pregnant lady with her glowing stoumach. That was rather odd IMO. It was like she was ET, except a glowing stoumach instead of finger. :lol: I saw some clips for the fireworks show comming up, and looks like it'll be great, so I'm staying tuned!

OMG! That's what I said too as soon as it lit up! That's so funny!

I loved the mist screen thing. I think Illuminations should start something like that! :animwink:

Parade of Nations gets kinda boring until your country comes out :lol: Im waiting for the US to come out now...then on to my favorite part...LIGHTING THE OLYMPIC FLAME!!! :sohappy:

As for the actualy show, pretty cool.

I just got home and tuned in. I guess my grandma's taping it, so I can see what I missed. By the way, does anyone know if there's any logic to the order that the nations come out? They certainly aren't going alphabetically, and I don't think by number of athletes. Or is it completely random?

They're going Greek alphabeticly.

Man, this parade of nations is so long and boring! I want the fireworks show! In the mean time, I saw Norway pass by, and I saw MaElStRoMROCkS waving from that crowd. :lol:
