Torch lighting was FABULOUS! I think the Greeks have done a WONDERFUL Job! Surely they deserve a place in WS!! :lol:

Btw, I simply MUST have one of those hats the US team is wearing! It's $34.95 from Roots.com and I KNOW it's just going to sit in my drawer...right next to my Roots 2002 winter games hat :lol:

I think I liked how Barcelona lit the torch in 1992 better.

The only part of the night that I semi-enjoyed was the video about Greece at the beginning, the rest put me to sleep. Team USA looked totally lame in those outfits, especially those hats. I'm glad the Iraqis are finally getting a chance to participate in the Olympic games. No matter how much you hate President Bush, you have to appreciate the fact that the Iraqis can now participate because of his effort to liberate them from that ruthless dictator!

Some of those poor deprived Olympians didn't even have hats!! Although, I was quite envious of the contingent with the beautiful flower wreaths around their heads. But, alas, Roots doesn't sell those

Ok, when I get them in the mail, I'll fly to Athens, put on my white cowboy hat, and run around the track with Team USA :sohappy: !!!! I'll be the only one with a decent hat on. :king: I'll save the roots hat for golfing. :hammer:

Oh, I totally loved the opening ceremony with the abstract look at the birth of mankind and human conciousness. When the first statue broke into multiple pieces to represent the Greek isles, it took my breath away. And the scene with the DNA illuminated on the water spray was really cool. I thought it was a beautiful ceremony befitting the birthplace of not only the Olympics, but of the many cultural and political ideals at the heart of our modern civilization. I hope over the next few weeks the Olympics will bring the success, recognition, and respect this ancient country so richly deserves.

Agreed!! Leave it to the Americans to wear a uniform with advertising on it!! Poor show indeed!! They looked like they were dressed to attend some really lame hip hop concert. I thought the Russians looked snazzy!! Who'd have thought!!

I noticed that last night as well. Actually, I 've been noticing POTC music more on TV lately. Although at the moment, I don't recall what the circumstances were.
