The OLYMPICS thread!

I noticed that last night as well. Actually, I 've been noticing POTC music more on TV lately. Although at the moment, I don't recall what the circumstances were.

I also noticed the music to i was up in my room when i heard it and started humming the music! Then I was like hey wait a minute they better not be watching pirates without me downstairs! LOL

They also played The jurassic park themed Music by John williams at the first part of the ceremony.... that was beautiful but all of John William's music is!

Mix the Jurassic park soundtrack with James Earl Jones reading and it just brought a tear to your eye. But what was the music in the second portion of the opening video when James was highlighting the various athletes that will compete? That was beautiful too.

I'm so hooked to this tv. I can't turn the Olympics off. I'm getting kind of tired of the swimming though. I think I'm getting up at 4am to watch softball since they don't replay it. I figure thats the only sport I could make it to the Olympics with so I better watch.

HAHA. I love swimming and beach volleyball right now. Michael Phelps and CO. just took the bronze in the relay race. I love diving too. And the US Basketball team lost. :sohappy: I love to see the US win but putting a bunch of so called professionals in a non professional tournment is outragous

Hey basketball Team USA!! Do you like plantains? How do you like them plantains!! LOL!! Oh, I like the fact they got whooped by Puerto Rico!! If for no other reason than to humble those overpaid, over appreciated, basketball stars.

How many empty seats are there!? Some events aren't even a quarter full, this is crazy!

Oh, I know! I was watching sculls yesterday and there were ENTIRE sets of bleachers EMPTY! They said last night that they had apparently moved the almost sold out upper deck to the empty lower levels for the ladies preliminary gymnastics, and I heard this morning that they are considering giving some tickets away for free in an attempt to fill the venues! :hammer:

Who lit the cauldron or whatever you want to call the flame holder this year?

I saw just a few clips as power was coming back on. I missed the entire thing due to Hurricane Charley.

Yeah, I was just reading somewhere that they may not even have met the minimum seats sold for the Olympics. Shopkeepers are complaining saying it's the worst season ever for them. Some say the reason the Olympics may not be that crowded is because people decided not to attend due to terrorist concerns. Pity. One columnist noted that Greece will be paying off the debt for generations if things don't get better.

The other day you wrote to me about karma, looks like karma may have caught up with the basketball team. I generally don't like to go against my country's team, but this time I will make an exception.

Let's see how they set an example for our kids now. That will be the true test .

I think it's that, and also the fact that some hotels put their prices up to £1000 per night during the Olympics. Another reason I heard is that the swimming pool was supposed to have a roof over it, but it did not get finished in time, and people cannot stand the high temperatures, and sitting in the direct sunlight. During one of the tennis matches there were more umbrellas up to protect people from the sun then there was at wimbledon during the rain!

Don't recall if it was last night or Saturday night, but the gymnastics venue was EMPTY preliminary round! I think it was Saturday because Scott and I were watching those twins from the USA and marveling at their muscles :slurp: (Gordon's pocket gymnasts  ) Anyhow, during his commentary, Bob Costas mentioned the empty seats and chocked part of it up to the fact that gymnastics isn't considered to be an 'important' sport in Greece, like it is in the USA. He also said that apparently in Greece, folks would wait till last minute to buy tickets? Don't know why that would be though  I do know that the preliminary rounds are not the 'marquis' rounds that the final medal rounds are. They usually do draw less of a crowd, but THAT much less? I don't know, unless maybe that is a huge venue?

Happened to flip onto the Olympics tonight to see the Romanian guy fall off the high bar during a commercial for the Cards/Reds game (GO CARDS!!!).

There were a handful of people in the upper deck, at least that were shown, and could have easily filled in the lower deck's holes.
