"The New Fantasyland" Thread Summary

For those of you wondering about how construction would take place, it's actually pretty simple. During construction, a wall will be placed from the northern most tip of Pinnochio's Village Haus going southeast until it winds directly behind Dumbo, then moves southeast leaves a walkway north of Snow White and Pooh, then going east until it connects at the northern most point of Indy Speedway. Once that happens, the Toon area is gone for good, as are Ariel's Grotto and the Pooh's Playground.

After construction is finished on the new area and it is opened, the old Dumbo area will be walled off with room to walk around so that it can be demolished and the Walls built.

Simple as that.

They are demolishing Dumbo? Why not move it?
They are moving it. Supposedly they will be moving it to the northeast corner of the expansion. It will have two "carousel/axils" rather than jsut the one. This is because of the capacity issues. Look at my previous post's link. It will help explain.

He makes it sound like they are demolishing it

Is it just me who has noticed that Pooh seems to be having a Facade change... It looks very different in the plans in is included in the "line of change"?

Sorry if this is off topic, but I was just thinking about the logistics of accomplishing a project of this magnitude with the MK still operating.

At some point, Toontown will have to close permanently for demolition which will reduce park capacity and make the other lands more crowded.

Other areas of the existing FL will have to be walled off and some attractions closed- I'm sure Dumbo can't be relocated in one night. It may even effect the railroad for a period.

On top of this, there will need to be underground infrastructure work that could disrupt guest flow.

Given all of the above, I think that Disney is really going to have to hype this expansion as a "light at the end of the tunnel" and something wonderful for guests. With prior warning, guests might be able to deal with the inconveniences that come with the construction. Otherwise there's likely to be long lines at guest relations with the familiar chant of "My vacation has been ruined because you closed/moved/demolished my favorite ride/restaurant/restroom!!!"

Perhaps it wouldn't be so tough to deal with if there were still "slow" seasons, but as we've seen there really isn't any slow season anymore, just a not-insanely-crowded season. I'm guessing that we may see some work starting sooner (September 1st) rather than later (January 1st, after the Christmas rush). The sooner time frame would give them nearly four full months of reduced crowds, while a January start would only give them about 2 1/2 months before the spring break/Easter crowds start.

Anyway, I'm just glad I'm not the one that has to plan it.
So much TDO thinking in the forst bolded statement.

In accordance to that, I would hope they take the DCA route and hype up the additions with a Gallery, and a good marketing campaign.:D

I'll help with it free of charge...:lookaroun

Very interesting. I'm assuming the walls would flip flop with the rest of FL after a while?

Have they come up with a plan for the mass of entangled, intertwined, sweaty human beings, backpacks and strollers that will occupy every possible available cubic inch of the Fantasyland walkways for who knows how many months?

Ok do we have any conformation about these plans yet because the biggest thing that leads me to believe these plans are fake is the 2 Dumbos.

We've had just about all the confirmation we are going to get online.

It's up to you to believe it or not.

Like many here, I question WDW Insider's credibility.

But he did make a very obvious guess on how the rehab will proceed.

However, if, as he says, Dumbo will be done last, then there's no reason to shut down TTF so early.

My guess is that the BatB/Mermaid complex will be built behind walls first on the old 20K plot (which originally co-existed with TTF). One that area is able relieve capacity, then I think they'll close TTF.

Larger capacity. Spinners are cheap and Dumbo is a staple of most family's Disney experience.

Even in the official guide there is a "Dumbo or Die" itinerary that focuses on getting on Dumbo.

I think it would be cool if they were built on top of each other!

That sounds so much more reasonable. Shutting TTF down pre-TLM would be about as hair-brained as anything I could possibly imagine.
