It’s not only a problem with concept art..
I think the algorithms really favor people like him.I do! But I've seen videos from both and just thought it was worth mentioning.
Obviously Kevin knows about his work, but thinks he can do well with shorter, jokier videos. His popularity on YouTube seems to prove that.
I like his interviews because they give a side of the story we don't usually hear about, the worker at the theme park. Sure the worker's side may be biased but its eye opening. From what I’ve seen of Defunctland, he’s definitely improved since that awful Superstar Limo video (not the one currently on his channel).
The Disney Dummies are at it again. No surprise here, folks.
One of my friends is also a USC student who is double majoring in psychology and themed design. One of her classes took a field trip to Disney Imagineering in Glendale this past Friday. She told me the imagineers themselves told the students they aim to design attractions with clout. They then told the students they failed in that regard with Guardians and Pixar Pier, and these offerings will never compare to the likes of Pirates and Mansion.
They know they’re screwing things up (not the imagineers necessarily).
I really enjoy Rob Plays' content. Even though I strongly disagree with a lot of his opinions about the park (especially on Marvel in the parks), he's well educated on Disney history and does a great job presenting it.
Just saw this so I thought I'd bring this up. Basically Toy Story Land is a failure. Another example of a dud under Chapek.
EDIT: Link doesn't work. Guess it's a competing WDW news site. Just look up "Is Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios a Dud?" It's a good break down regarding wait times and receptions to the land.
- Anaheim Politics. She said that Josh Dimaro the new DLR President is a breath of fresh air. Mr. Colglazier, whom Mr. Dimaro replaced, was out of touch and got too caught up in the hoity toity world of charity balls and celebrity visits. Mr. Dimaro is smart, but he also has a more egalitarian view and has no problem interacting with front line CM's of the type Mr. Colglazier was happy to avoid. Mr. Colglazier always needed to remind everyone he was the smartest guy in the room, that he went to Stanford and was better than you, and that he was above you socio-economically. And Mr. Colglazier's wife was an absolute snob and a real bore to have to talk to. While Mr. Dimaro has a more natural ability to connect with blue collar and front line CM's. Mr. Dimaro's wife is charming and fun to talk with, and she is thrilled to get out of sticky and boring Central Florida and live in Southern California. There were very few people in TDA who were sad to see Mr. Colglazier leave, while a growing group of old-timers are warming quickly to Mr. Dimaro. He scored big points by throwing out the divisive political agreements that Mr. Colglazier crafted in 2015-18, and while things are still icy with Anaheim City Hall, things are definitely better than they were before he arrived. It will depend on which way the election goes in November to see if Disneyland moves forward with some very big investment plans for the parks and the western edge of the property along Disneyland Drive.
- Fourth Hotel. It was a sigh of relief for many in TDA to back away from the 4th Hotel because they felt the design and placement were second rate. There's a hope that the delay, which may be years long, will allow WDI to rethink their design and certainly the placement of the 4th hotel. A version of the Star Wars Hotel boutique experience is also tentatively slated for Anaheim in the early 2020's, but it depends on Anaheim politics. The talk of Disney building something in Garden Grove is not just talk. Bob Chapek and North American parks boss Catherine Powell personally visited a big chunk of land on Harbor Blvd. in Garden Grove this summer that could become the site of a new Disney hotel if the Measure L passes in Anaheim this November. Garden Grove politicians are being very quiet, but they'd love to pull the rug out from underneath Anaheim and score this Harbor Blvd. property. It's a real thing, not just bluster. Burbank is ready to pull the trigger on Garden Grove expansion if Anaheim turns Socialist this November.
I'm not a fan of Pixar Pier, but those vendors should had used the stylized 2D Pixar designs (Such as Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc). It’s not only a problem with concept art..

Pixar has to sign off on what was put up so they approved of it.I'm not a fan of Pixar Pier, but those vendors should had used the stylized 2D Pixar designs (Such as Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc).
There is also probably a style guide that dictates which images are to be used. Custom art likely would have required hiring Pixar to create said new art.Pixar has to sign off on what was put up so they approved of it.
First off, thanks for the great post TP2000!
I have written this response a few times, starting with last night. My knowledge base has expanded a lot lately, so can't say much about these two topics I know very well. But I can comment about Josh D'Amaro.
I am very impressed in what he has done so far, especially in regards to Anaheim Politics. Also agree with the comments about Mr. Colglazier being not the best person for the job.
Another park president, one that also started low in the ranks of the company, said good things about Mr. D'Amaro. I was lucky enough to get some serious one on one recently (well, Lisa was also with us). He invited me for a walking tour of the park in the evening. He picked up trash, talked to many employees, and we talked about quite a few things. He said he was very grateful for keeping my mouth shut of a few things that happened recently. He was very interested with Anaheim Politics, and very grateful he never had any major issues of the three parks he oversaw in regards to local government.
I did have a phone call with another park president today, but basically answered his questions, and didn't get to talk about much else.
As for the Fourth Hotel paragraph. All I can say is I am glad she revealed some very good information. As for Garden Grove Politics, well those nasty NDA's will only say the city staff has been directed to look at multiple options as to what type of incentives the city can offer, up front costs and expected returns. That is semi-public info. Of course, no specific company/investment group is mentioned, just if someone would want to build a quality Hotel.
I will also state the UNITE HERE is in a big pickle in regards to the ALWI. In the last few days, got word of serious talks with Disney, and very glad the agreement was announced on Tuesday. This was something the leaders didn't want to do until November, but mounting pressure from its members forced their hand. So a victory for the CM's, and getting some additional money before Christmas. Home Depot is getting their decorations out this week.
And Disney has told Anaheim Business leaders they are keeping everything on hold until after the election. As for campaign funds, Disney is playing the cards very close to their chest, and nobody knows how much the No on L campaign will receive. The Wincome group will be getting a token donation for the Yes on J&K campaign. I have received multiple mailers (Mom asked me if I knew anything about J&K, and my wife laughed out loud). Also a lot of signage has gone up this week around town. Wincome has decided to spend some serious money on the campaign. To them, it is J that has the most importance, as it will give Wincome time to decide what to do with the Harbor & Disney Way property. Since the Westin is already being built, Measure K isn't as important.
As for the 4 council races, Disney is talking to one person in each race, but both sides are looking at the positives (more money) and the negatives (being known as the "Disney" candidate versus independent). The Tait/Ahmanson money is freely flowing to Ward, Vanderbilt, Moreno and Gaby. But all 4 are not doing well in current polling.
UNITE HERE has not announced anything about supporting anyone just yet, though Dr. Moreno is a given. Same with if they will campaign against J&K besides a token campaign.
I know of no public polls regarding the Anaheim races, just internal ones.
The city council meeting on September 25th will more than likely not deal with Disney matters, but a heavy Homeless one. (The police have been told to stand down in enforcing anti-camping laws until after the election). Have a meeting Wednesday night that will discuss this with the Police and city staff present to discuss things with upset West Anaheim residents. Should be interesting..
But October 9th will discuss the ALWI, with the City Attorney's decision if Disney is subject to it regarding the 1996 agreement, and other matters. This is a KEY decision that comes after the Mail In Ballots have been mailed out. A lot of the planned Mailers are being designed to reflect either decision announced. Polling is being done asking how would you vote on L either way, the same on both, or change your mind and say Yes one way, and No on the other.
I think I pushed what I can say, and hope you understand that I need to mainly post news articles, as that is pubic information.
Once again, thanks to TP2000 for getting to enjoy some great cheesecake!

You’re just not in touch with the hip youth who live in Southern California who demand less of their #blessed #humbleeventhoughihaverichparents #themepark #experience.Yeah, like they did for the new carousel critters, which will have gone from beautiful custom ocean-themed sculpts to demented halfwit farm animals.
Not to keep bringing up Mission Breakout discourse but isn’t it funny how GOTG 3 is now on hold while this was just released today
Speaking of Chapek and his knee jerk additions to the parks isn’t it funny how GOTG 3 is now on hold while this was just released today
“The Twilight Zone IP costs too much”- people not familiar with music licensing costs."Kids today don't know what the Twilight Zone is" - morons when Mission Breakout was announced
