Currently reading Disneyland Inside Story. I had heard that Chatsworth was briefly considered as a location for Disneyland but never heard that Calabasas was also considered. You mean to tell me I could have lived in a world where Disneyland was just a minutes away and I didn’t have to jump onto the I5 South?

Calabasas would look so much different today if that had happened. No more large housing tracks....

Disneyland should do special event overlays like what we're seeing in Paris. When they had their Tower of Terror Soiree, they did changed the music for Rock'n'Roller Coaster to Twilight Zone and changed the lighting. They did something similar for Marvel as well. It would be really cool if they had a Twilight Zone overlay for GotG, changing the music and changing the visuals on the screens in the queue and the ride, just for a night. But Disney could do a bunch of stuff with Space Mountain and Guardians, possibly even something for Soarin' or Star Tours. They could even do some fun things for Halloween Parties, like having a night overlay for Big Thunder, something with spooky lighting, different sounds, and the ghosts of miners past.

A cool night overlay for BTM would be to just turn all the lighting off. I don't know why they don't do that. They'd be saving on the electric bill.

Turn off all the lights in the Haunted Mansion and just play the hallway of doors sounds through the entire ride.

Just the creaking sound from the "stairway" at the start of the ride over and over again. And the laughing speaker at the exit. It's all you need, really.

The Oasis...only in a form that doesn't have people addicted 24/7. The holodeck would be even better, but that would probably be available only for the very rich and the crews of fancy schmancy starships.

I'm very mixed on Galaxy's Edge being added to Disneyland- I have a number of reasons I'm excited, and a number of reasons I'm opposed.

But isn't it a darn shame that essentially the exact same land is being built in both Orlando and Paris? Disneyland Park thrives on its uniqueness- many of its attractions are unique from other iterations of the same attraction built elsewhere. This helps keep Disneyland different from other Disney parks, and helps preserve its history as unique from the other parks.

Yes, I know not everything in Disneyland is unique- but nothing is as egregious as an entire land.

And yes, I know it's not a huge deal- but it still bothers me.

Be sure to check out Three Years in Wonderland by Todd James Pierce. An extraordinarily well researched account of Disneyland's creation and first year, that shares a number of stories not found in official Disney versions of the history.

Well as we know from the SW thread, DHS:SW is not exactly the same. The land use is turning out to be a bit different. And I'd expect some of the shops and other outpost items to be slightly different as well. Overall the attractions will be the same yes, but I think the experiences will be slightly different as well.

As for Paris, are they even getting the same land? I thought its was a stripped down version, basically 1/2 the size and with only one attraction, Battle Escape if I remember correctly. So if anything they are getting the short end of the lightsaber on that one. But I think they are getting other things that will be unique.

Figured you'd bring up the Oasis....

People are addicted to their phones 24/7 why would you think there would be a version of the Oasis that wasn't addictive 24/7.

Closing it Tuesdays and Thursdays would be a start (that bit of the movie made me smile--DL used to close on Mon and Tue in the off season and Knotts would close Tues and Wed.)

They could program it so that if you stay too long, everyone you encounter will look and sound like Jar Jar Binks.

Yeah not sure why they decided to add the Genesis project at the end, weird. Maybe to show that MJs, I mean Cpt Eo, magic had transformed the planet.

I often enjoy watching videos of Disneyland attractions that are no longer with us- to learn more things about park history and to scratch that itch.

I had a playlist with a number of videos of Fantasmic!- the original pre bastardized version. And it looks like all those videos were removed from Youtube. A quick search didn't yield any HD results of the original Fantasmic!.

But here's the rub: the 2017 show, as well as the WDW version, still have a number of recordings available.

What a tragedy, and I might start downloading and backing up old ride and show videos, just in case.
