I don’t remember stores at Disneyland being so crowded during the day. Went to the Emporium around 3pm yesterday and it was slammed! Genie + makes standby lines so long people are just saying “screw it, I’ll just go shop.”

That bench that runs along that hill/ berm separating Snow Whites Grotto from the Matterhorn adjacent to the Alice restrooms is one of my favorite areas at the park. There is some about it that just feels like Old Disneyland. I think on a subconscious level the reason it resonates with me is because it’s just pure “park.” One of the last places in the park that feels that way. A nice stretch of seating (which in and of itself is rare these days) surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Matterhorn. No stores, eateries or rides or the chaos that comes with them.

Probably because its one of the few areas that Chapek hasn't managed to add some kind of monetary shake-down (yet)?

I saw Fantasmic only 2 times (both in 2015) before Galaxys Edge construction stopped it and I was not happy with the new version. I much prefer the first show I saw and have zero "nostalgia" for it. The vocalist, pacing, pirate ship, and music was arguably better.

The new fountains and lighting are good but why did they replace the vocals and add Friend Like Me which is already at another water fountain show a mile away?
Saw the new version of Disneyland Fantasmic last week while the show overall was improved the change from the Peter Pan to the Jack Sparrow pirate ship was a huge downgrade, though I suppose that change happened a while back. The original sequence just had so many more things going on with multiple sets of characters fighting, and the brighter lighting allowed you to enjoy the whole spectacle. Now that all the emphasis is on a poorly-lit Sparrow and a bunch of nameless zombies or whatever, the viewer's point of focus is so much smaller and depending on your angle, you can't actually see what you're supposed to be watching.

Also, I couldn't believe how badly-maintained Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones are right now. Both rides now feel like more than a quarter of the ride experience is in total darkness with no working effects to see. I assume Splash is just being left to rot until it's closed for frogging, and Jones has to soldier on until after Mansion's Holiday conversion is undone, but both were in the sorriest shape I've ever seen any Disney ride.

I actually saw the last Fantasmic performance before the pandemic shutdown, and it was the Jack Sparrow version back then.

Had Raising Canes for like the 5th time on my way back from DL Saturday night and I’m all in now. It went from “I don’t get the hype” to “it’s good” to me craving it and just now googling what the closest location is which is unfortunately too far. The tenders are always piping hot and crispy. The big shift I think is because the sauce was an acquired taste for me. Didn’t love it the first couple times. And you need the sauce since the tenders don’t have a lot of flavor. The sauce, temperature, crispness/ freshness and Texas Toast make up for it though.

They re opening up one in Northridge!! 🙌 10 minutes away from me so that might be a problem. Opening up in a few weeks. Right next to a Chic-Fil-A too. Savage.
That’s even further away from where I live! Excellent! I can’t afford to go there every other week. That’s exactly what I’d be doing.

In terms of chicken alone, I’d go to Raising Cane’s over CFA. I find CFA to be overrated, for the most part. I’ve had way better chicken sandwiches elsewhere. And there’s crack in RC’s sauce. And that Texas toast?? Good god.

I agree and said the exact thing to my wife Saturday night. Raising Canes kills CFA to be honest if we re going straight chicken to chicken comparison. The sandwich is niche* enough that I’ll prob still go to CFA for that. But their tenders suck.

*Niche in they have a specific flavor like McDonalds not that they re unique.

Texas Toast is 🔥🔥🔥 You put a tender or two in between two pieces of that toast and you’re good!

100%. I’ll take a Popeye’s chicken sandwich over CFA. It’s not nasty, or anything, but as you said, the taste isn’t unique. Nothing worth waiting very long for.

I haven’t been since the pandemic, but Howlin’ Rays is my go-to for chicken sandwiches and tenders. If RC was closer, it’d be convenient and I’d go more often. I’m glad you’re getting one closer to you!
