I haven't. To be honest I didn't even realize those were bungalows you could stay in but in hindsight it makes sense. Do you live in Southern California? They take walk ins. Just might have to wait a bit. Or make a reservation and you can be eating those glorious beignets by the end of August.

Yeah I live in Pasadena. I’ve been to Crystal Cove a few times; we put our names on the Beachcomber wait list once but the hostess seemed to suggest it’d be a while so we grabbed (surprisingly good) food/beer at the nearby burger shack instead. Ever since, I’ve been wanting (but been too lazy) to book a reservation and enjoy a Mai Tai and mahi mahi tacos (and apparently beignets) right by the beach.

That little burger shack looks good too! Yeah I’ll definitely vouch for the grilled artichokes and beignets. My wife wasn’t crazy about her steak sandwich. My fried chicken sandwich was good. We had breakfast there once and it was good/fine. Nothing exceptional.

Better than it has any right to be. They could get away with serving up low-effort mediocrity and people would still buy it just for the view and lack of other options. But no, the burger is actually really solid.

I knew it smelled good. Honestly the burger is probably better there than down below at Beachcomber. The first time we ate at Beachcomber the standby wait was so long I took that little hike up to the Shake Shack to investigate and almost ate there instead if it wasn’t for the logistics of getting my grandma up that steep flight of stairs.

@TP2000 might remember this. There was a Barefoot Bar in San Diego near Sea World. You would follow foot prints down into this cave into an underground restaurant where the footprints would end up on the ceiling. It was very Tiki Room looking. They had an outdoor bay seating too. I believe it became a Don the Beachcomber restaurant. I think it is just an outdoor bar & grill now.

Looks like Storybookland is getting a decent refurb right now.

What I hope happens:

Monstro gets touched up. Has the water sprouting effect been working properly? If not, hope that gets fixed.

They address the Big Blue Dumbo wall with more greenery. Even if it’s fake.

The shade structure (if rumor is true) is integrated nicely

What I hope doesn’t happen:

They don’t remove anything classic for Rapunzels tower (if the rumor is true)

They don’t replace the real grass throughout the attraction with artificial turf. Currently artificial turf is only found on the little islands where the ducks hang out and in the very front of the attraction surrounding the Storybookland Floral.

To whom it may concern:

There is a pretty good flash sale for Great Wolf room/ ticket packages happening today and today only. Still debating purchasing as my wife and I need to make more of a conscious effort to spend more time doing things that we actually enjoy too.

Great Wolf is fun. I've been there multiple times with the kids/adults. My niece works there. Get the room with the wolf den bunk bed for the kids.

That’s the one I had my eye on. My son is fascinated with bunk beds. We’ve gone once. We had a good time. I mean sure there is something about the water park being indoors that make it feel a little extra gross. And yeah that heater being on blast throughout the hotel and water park is slightly off putting but my son loved it. Also was surprised with the quality of a couple of their slides. Particularly the family raft slide and Coyote Cannon (the vortex ride) which is much better than Hurricane Harbors version.

One other thing is my daughter isnt tall enough for the big slides so we have to split up which is kind of a bummer.

I believe you can get a King instead of a queen in that room. Of course the kids will want the magic wands to make things happen around the hotel. It's a pretty noisy lobby.

Any guess as to how long the refurb will be? Flying 3/4 the way across the country on 9/30 to take my daughter for the first time.
Dunno, refurb calendar doesn't go out that far. So far its listed at closed through 9/16.

My guess is that it'll be open by then as that would be a two month closure and that seems too long. But who knows, it might be more extensive then we think.

I don't want to oversell it; it's not paradigm-shifting Michelin star food but it's surprisingly good for what it is. Chilling there with a beer, overlooking the ocean -- it's kinda heavenly.

Screw Michelin star burgers. That looks wonderful. Like a classic grill burger. Kind of reminds me of Bills Burgers in Van Nuys. Tiny little hole in the wall counter that he manned for over 60 years. He just passed away last week 😔 RIP. 98 years old. worked til his last days. Really funny guy, sarcastic with a nice dry humor. Only took cash. Didn't serve fries. Your alternative was a bag of Lays potato chips. I'm trying to remember the joke he told my uncle and I about McDonalds...
