The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Maybe. It looks flat and dull on camera. Regardless, I can't imagine drones being better than a 45' animatronic dragon. If that ended up being Murphy's replacement, it would surely feel cheap and a let down. I stand firm that they either need to bring back a dragon of the same caliber or end Fantasmic entirely.

I mean, I'd much prefer an actual AA dragon replacement, but since that is clearly not going to happen right now... I'd settle for a really cool giant dragon head in the sky made out of drones 😅

Is it actually clear that we're for sure not getting one, or have people doom and gloomed enough that everyone's just assuming that's going to be the reality?

As far as anyone who knows anything has said, it's not happening. Disney has said no "physical" dragon would be returning, and they would be reworking the finale battle.
Do you remember where I might find those posts? I'm fairly certain I've read the whole Dragon flames thread, but I don't remember anyone definitively stating that (nor do I honestly know who is a trusted DL insider who regularly posts here at this point)-just a lot of speculation.

If the rework is maleficent using her staff to teleport across the different trap doors, I’ll cry

Atp, just make a dragon barge..

..But then I feel like if they still had this lying around somewhere they’d just re skin it to maleficent 🤑

I don't recall where I saw it.

All I can find right now is these:

So we can still hold out hope this is temporary...

That was how I read/interpreted those statements-that this is temporary, and that eventually a dragon figure would be restored to the show. And I can understand their desire to get the show up and running in some fashion rather than wait for a new figure (if one is coming) is ready.

They should bring back the original dragon head. It'd be more than fine with the added projection effects and better than no physical effect.
I feel like eventually they should bring back a full dragon AA, but there's no reason they can't start with the dragon head at the very least. Make it a placeholder, market it as a nostalgia offering, etc. until the new AA is ready.

Fun fact, the only ride based on an original PG movie from the last 13 years at Disneyland is Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind.
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind isn't even in Disneyland, it's in California Adventure (unless you meant the Disneyland Resort as a whole).

Wouldn't Rise of the Resistance and Smugglers Run count as attractions based on a franchise that has several PG and PG-13 movies?

Lastly, what attraction came out 13 years ago (2010) that was based on a PG movie?

Yes of course I meant Disneyland the resort, and I said an original PG movie from the last 13 years. There hasn’t been a PG Star Wars movie since the mid 2000s and it wouldn’t be an original IP anyway.

I’m not sure I understand the point of the last question, there wasn’t a new ride in 2010 except the new swings.

So why did you choose 13 years in your example?

Because everyone who is technically too young for PG13 movies was born in the last 13 years. So Inside Out is the only original PG movie released in their lifetimes that has a ride in the parks (and Frozen is the only one at WDW).

This was truly the most miscellaneous thought of all thoughts… my apologies… but the main reason is I was trying to figure out why they’re wasting money on this San Fransokyo thing. Then I realized San Fransokyo, and all four of the questionable “blue sky” ideas for WDW that Disney rambled about at the last D23, are from semi-recent original PG movies. So I wonder if this was a concern or agenda from the corporate folks at Disney.

Don't worry. In a rare flash of lucidness, I completely understood what you were getting at in your first post. ;)

I think your point is really interesting, and very valid. The current executives push "IP" into everything, but what kind of IP?

It certainly isn't recent IP aimed at children.

Back in 2001-2005, I made fun of DCA 1.0 mercilessly and with the best of them. But there were a few small gems in that park that I now miss.

I'm getting excited for a planned trip next month up to Napa Valley with a gaggle of like minded folks. September in the wine country is fabulous. And when looking over the itinerary this morning, I remembered how lovely and well done that Seasons Of The Vine movie was that DCA had in the Mondavi facility.

Mondavi staffed it all themselves, and just like when the Bell System used to staff CircleVision, the staff running Seasons Of The Vine were all a noticeable cut above the average "ride op" CM. Very knowledgeable, gracious, and passionate about wine and its place in California culture, and extremely well trained and supervised. The movie would change seasonally, so that when the Mondavi "wine ambassador" would slide open the barn doors to start the show, the look out to the vineyards would match up to whatever season it really was. Classy and clever.

I miss Seasons Of The Vine. A small but very sophisticated little attraction from DCA 1.0. :)

YES! It felt like a very small bit of World Showcase in DCA. Everything else "California" was not as well done.

Yesterday was an interesting time to be in the parks. Last day of Wondrous Journey, Rogers, Magic Key dance parties (Ratatouille!). First day of San Fransokyo.
