All of the rides here seem to be in at least as good condition as their WDW counterparts (some better). But TSM is the glaring exception. 3D doesn't look nearly as good as WDW's, and cannons weren't aiming quite straight for both me and my mother. Could use a refurb to get it up to the same (or better) quality.

It's actually going down mid-July (during my trip...grrr), so perhaps they'll do some updates then.

I hate that Disneyland still hand checks the bag. That is a major downside of Disneyland.
Yeah, it's super annoying. Especially since it depends on the CM and how thorough they're being. I had one who checked a section of my backpack that was empty.

The whole entry process at WDW is faster. I'm not a fan of using the scanning tickets verses RFID. It clogs up the entrances, including LLs.

The screens have been so dim for a while and they never seem to address it. But then again I can’t remember if it has gone down for an extended refurb in all these years. How long is the one coming up?

Good, it really needs it. I haven't been here in six years since my big college graduation trip when I came here and then went to WDW directly from CA. I noticed WDW's was in better shape way back then, but not in a totally obvious way. Now it's very obvious.

Around 2011/2012 it was near the top of our list and now my wife and I forget it’s even there. Really makes a huge difference.

Why are the security check points still under temporary tents? It's been 23 years. Are they thinking the checkpoints aren't needed anymore? Isn't it time for a permanent security checkpoint? Both Universal and Knott's have integrated it into their front gate plaza. Why does Disneyland look like a temporary concert structure?
It’s mind-blowing that DL still uses those tents. Universal Orlando’s central security hub looks like a major airport’s, with so many lanes operating that I’ve never waited at all to get through. I LOVE the arrival experience at UOR.

Disneyland does have Magicbands, it's just that most vacationers don't know Disneyland uses them and locals just turn their noses up to them. The reasoning being something about since they had to take their phones out to book a LL an hour prior, it's just easier to pull them out again to scan them instead of raising their wrists....or something like that 🤷‍♂️

Also, people think the bands lighting up for shows and attractions is gimmicky and don't want to be associated with things that are gimmicky even though they get you through entry and LL much faster. Again....🤷‍♂️

My friend and I used them on our trip last March and we enjoyed them. They made gate entry easy and when others were fumbling with their phones or trying to find their tickets in the LL entrances, we walked right up, raised our wrists, and kept moving. Made scanning photopass easier too. To each their own. We liked how they lit up in some of the ride queues. Since they are chargeable they now last you much longer for the money unlike the original MBs that didn't charge.

Sounds like you are part of the demo they work for. I would have bought one if you could link multiple tickets to one band. As a father with young kids I’m handling park entry and the occasional lighting lane returns for the family so for me right now the phone is actually easier. I also don’t wear watches or jewelry so to wear one of those all day just for park entry or on the random days I buy LL isn’t worth it. Even when we do purchase Genie +, MB’s aren’t more convenient then the phone due to all the child switching we have to do. Easier to take care of it on one phone than to grab multiple people’s wrists.

It would be nice if we could purchase things with them but even then 80% of my purchases are food using mobile order.

I'm aware. I have one I bought here that I'll bring back. Unfortunately my MB+ from WDW didn't work. The rest of my group opted not to buy one, but I can't stand not having one at this point. I even use one of my older MBs when I'm at Aulani/Hilton Head; they work there.

I honestly kind of understand their sentiments; I mean, you can't charge with them or open your door to your room with them, which is stupid. But I do think they should just go to RFID plastic cards like WDW has for those not wearing MBs.

I think the price point also likely deters people. The original MBs were cheaper. I think they need to make the original ones compatible and the WDW ones compatible as well. It's stupid that I can use my WDW MBs at Aulani...but not here.

That's odd. Magicband+ is the only type that works at Disneyland. Was it an issue with getting it synched to your ticket in the app?

I think for many it’s just an extra device/ purchase with not a lot of upside.

Also @chadwpalm the majority of Magic Key holders aren’t buying Genie + on a regular basis so that limits most of the magic bands appeal/ functionality right there. Without that you’re left with park entry and photo pass. That’s $160 for a family of 4 to get into the park easier (if you don’t have young kids) and scan for photo pass easier on the rare occasion we do that.

It told me "This MB is not compatible. Contact guest services for more information." Frustrating. Oh well; lord knows I'll use it in WDW.

And then they don't even link to rides for photos. Stupid.

How would they do that exactly? I mean I’m sure it can be done. I’m not the most tech savvy person. So you scan into Lightning lane for example but how would they deliver your picture unless you tap something on the ride vehicle? Some geo tag or something?

In WDW, you wear your MB and it knows what photo belongs to you. It links automatically to your account, has for years. If you don't have a MB, you just tap your ticket on a sensor at the end.

I don't know how it works; I'm an accountant. I can explain unearned revenue from theme park tickets, but not that. 🤣

I've definitely seen less Disney bounding this trip than in years past. Is it on the decline or is it just too chilly for people to do it? I think I've seen maybe one or two people doing it in four days.

The bands have both passive (not amplified, have to touch) RFID, and active (sends out signal at larger range) RFID. When I went to WDW and rode SDMT it automatically sent me our pics to my account, so there are probably receivers along the track that pick up your band ID.

From what I've heard, they use that to track to patterns of people in the walkways and lets you go directly to any seat in the Beauty and Beast restaurant after ordering and they can find you.
