Did Disney acquire the show's production company? Did they buy another thing?

(In fairness, I don't think the show's *quite* running in peak mode right now. Not that I think that Disney would make it better if it got control, but y'know.)

Right now, ALL of the old Seasons with the original hosts and Mary Berry are streaming free on the Roku Channel. There are brief commercial interruptions, but it's free (and you don't need a roku to access the channel) and there's content that has never been legally available for the US before, including Series 1 & 2, the ONLY Christmas specials with the original host/judge combo, and a lot of the celebrity/charity one-off episodes.

Not sure if this is still the case, but I was able to find PBS DVDs of the seasons I wanted to purchase for affordable prices last year. I believe on the PBS website.
Thanks for this. I'm watching Season One, Episode One on Roku now for the first time. It's interesting seeing the prototypal state of the series. They seem to have a lot of the formula in place, but it's searching for its personality.

I agree it's not firing on all cylinders recently. I've been keeping up with the current season and The Great British Bake Off - An Extra Slice on HDclump:

A Disneylander’s Impressions of Disney Hollywood Studios (first visit since 1993):

- It’s a lovely park with (still) too few real attractions. Of the three WDW parks that existed in 1993, this is the only one I think has gotten better instead of worse. It’s so close to being great; even the addition of a few more well-themed flat rides would help. Surely someone at Disney realizes this. If the company really wanted to, they could easily make this park fantastic in two years.

- I refuse to buy Genie+, and still managed to ride everything before leaving at 3:00.

- Slinky Dog is a joy. Toy Story Land is full of great, accurate toy details, but feels very shallow and one-note. Bonus points for putting a huge Cootie on top of the restrooms!

- Original ToT is wonderful, even better than I expected.

- First time at any Galaxy’s edge, and was properly impressed by the scope. Less impressed by lack of characters, any feeling of life, and the general sense that it’s way too big for a land with just two rides. RotR was a blast, though it would be twice as good if set in the OG trilogy. The big guns, of course, weren’t working and neither was Elsa Kylo; we got the projection of Kylo whining away in his ridiculous Space Buggy. It’s like being threatened by Ross from Friends just before he trips over a chair. Big delay after the crash landing finale; impressed with how smoothly the audio stalls for time.

- Single-Rider made Smuggler’s a walk-on. Our entire crew was comprised of first-timers, and we totally wrecked the Falcon. It was glorious.

- Runaway Railway isn’t exactly impressive, but it is fun. It’ll be a fine addition to DL’s Toontown.

- Besides the offerings in GE and the ToT exit, the park’s shops are very boring and full of the same generic merchandise. But if you want a bubble wand, they’ve got you covered. From every possible angle.

- Ate at ABC Commissary. The only burger available is veggie? Really? Had the chicken club. It was decent.

- The little museum highlighting Walt Disney’s milestones is very classy and sweet (until it abruptly turns into an ad for the cruise line at the far end). Nice to see guests in there enjoying the displays.

- Spent the mid/late afternoon riding Skyliner. Perfect time to try this: No lines anywhere and had my own cabin for most of it. Made a brief park-hop to Epcot and back easy and fun. Very comfortable, pleasant, fun experience.

Overall, I had a great time at the Studios park, but have no desire to return soon, simply because there is not enough to do there to absorb the crowds. This was a relatively “light” attendance day, too. I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s truly mobbed.

It’s a bit frustrating to see how very close this park is to being one of Disney’s very best. It just needs a few more rides, and they don’t have to be E-tickets.

So in other words you wouldn’t go out of your way to make a reservation for 1/27/23 to be there for opening day of MMRR at Disneyland and deal with all the craziness? Well, it’ll also be the kick off to the new 100th anni entertainment.

I waited a half hour to ride it, and don’t plan to ever wait that long for it again. It‘s cute, but it‘s a Buzz Lightyear-level experience. If this was a walk-on Omnimover ride, it would be considered a pleasant diversion. It is a quick ride through large rooms with animation projected on the walls. In very expensive ride vehicles. Mind-blowing it is not. There’s so much wasted space.

I did enjoy it, simply because it’s bright, cheerful, colorful and has fun music. But I am of the opinion that they wasted a lot of money and resources toward an underwhelming end result. They could have done this as a C-Ticket traditional dark ride and it would have been just as much fun, if not moreso. Mr. Toad is 10x more fun.

Yeah I suspect my opinion will be similar to yours. With that said, I’ve never done any opening day anything and this feels like the right time to do it. My son has been really looking forward to this ride since he saw the WDW version ride through videos. It’s looks kind of mediocre on the videos but I’m hoping the color, music and seeing it through the eyes of a child bumps it up a few notches for me.

As a fun family event, that sounds like a great plan to me! 😊 And, really, it is a very pleasant ride. And you’ll be one of the first to be able to report on the unique DL queue and rumored extra scene.

Also, I forgot to mention: that preshow is a work of Disney Imagineering genius. It’s so fun to experience live with a crowd, especially with a really good CM working the room. 😃

I have a $100 gift card left over from my birthday burning a hole in my pocket. Should I buy three MagicBands for the family (daughter doesn’t need one yet) or this Spirit Jersey?

Never considered buying one before but this one is appealing to me.

^ If you like it, buy it! I personally don't think the Magic Bands have enough features for Disneyland for me to fork over the $$

Why do they insist on putting “resort” everywhere though. Why put that generic, corporate, marketing word next to the iconic name of Disneyland. We get it, you want to market Disneyland as a resort but everyone and their mom knows about the hotels, DTD and DCA at this point. I know plenty of people that don’t buy merch because of the word “resort.” But I’ve never heard of one that didn’t buy something because it didn’t have the word “resort” on it. Anyway, rant over. At least the spirit jersey is kind of busy and is dominated by “Disneyland.”

That's why ;) But yeah, I agree it's annoying. What's more annoying was when I went to WDW this past summer, and more than half the merch could be bought at Disneyland with "Disneyland" written instead of "Walt Disney World".

It'll be Disneyland Resort until they can make DCA and the other components of the resort an actual draw...which they have historically been amazingly bad at.

It'll be Disneyland Resort forever unless DCA and the hotels all fall into the ocean and all that's left is Disneyland Park, and then that's what they will put on the spirit jerseys! Forever annoyance.

Oddly enough, ever notice how it's:

Disneyland Resort
Walt Disney World Resort
Tokyo Disney Resort
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
Shanghai Disney Resort

and

Disneyland Paris?

They tried EuroDisney of course, and EuroDisneyland Resort and Disneyland Resort Paris, but in general the word "resort" conjures things like skiing or beaches for Europeans, neither of which can be found at DLP, so to avoid confusion, it's officially just Disneyland Paris (with Parc Disneyland within it).

And HKDL has "land" in the resort name but Shanghai and Tokyo don't. No consistency at all!

bioreconstruct tweeted out some fabulous aerial shots of the Epic Universe construction site last night.... I have to say, I'm more excited about that park than anything Disney has coming up. o_O
I’m not a theme park fan, so the likelihood of me visiting USO is quite slim. However, I’m excited about Super Nintendo World opening at USH next year, and will likely get a pass. It’s actually affordable, unlike a DL pass.

But we can all agree that Universal Studios Escape featuring Universal Studios Florida, Universal Studios Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios CityWalk was the best name.

Merchandise that depicts dca and Disneyland should say Disneyland resort.

Merchandise for something Disneyland Park specific should just say Disneyland

Dca merchandise should say DCA. Which I don't think there's a ton of.

Did Oogie Boogie last night. I'm good for about 5 years. Now a lot of that (or maybe most of it) isn't the party's fault. But first I'll tell you what let me down about Ooogie Boogie. It's too short. At 5 hours its hard to get everything you want done especially if you have kids as they really have more like 3 good hours at the party. I kind of felt like what Joe day ticket holder must feel like when not having been to DL in years. Just kind of felt like we were rushing and that the odds were stacked against you. Which is a strange feeling for me as we have the regular park days down to where we're just experiencing the parks differently than the majority of guests.

Was a little let down with the lack of dining options. By 8pm it seemed like there were very few places to eat. We decided to eat at Flo's and had like 3 options to choose from. No turkey club, etc from the day menu. We also spent way too much time at Flo's but that's what happens when you're at the park with 6,4,3, and 2 year old. At a 5 hour event you really cant afford to spend an hour eating. With that said we managed to do pretty much do everything we wanted but it felt hectic. We did the Oogie Boogie, Ernesto De La Cruz, Maleficent, Dr. Facilier and Mother Goethel treat trails. We rode Goofys, Jumping Jellyfish, Maters, Webslingers from 3-6pm and rode RSR, Soarin, Luigis and Incredicoaster during the party. Incredicoaster at 10:45pm after the second parade and Soarin in the nick of time at 10:59pm. At this point all the kids were sleeping and were child switching or just sacrificing for one to party ride. Of course I found myself playing host again and catered to my non Magic Key sisters wants/needs which was why we didn't ride MAD.

The highlights for me were Villains Grove and Ernesto De La Cruz who was awesome! Love that eerie rendition of "Remember Me" they have playing too. I feel that all of the treat trails need to be on the level of Ernesto. Many of them felt lacking in atmosphere compared to him. Villains Grove was very cool but at this point was a little bit of a let down. I feel that its a tad overrated but I probably just took too long to see it. With that said, Its amazing what they're able to do with fog, projections, music etc. I feel that the party is missing a headliner or two. It needs a couple more experiences on the level of Villains Grove. The parade was a little bit of a let down as the kids were falling asleep or already asleep and I was coming down with whatever my wife was sick with last week. The headless horseman is cool but there was just way too much time in between him and the rest of the parade. In fact, it seems like there was always a little too much time between floats but I was also exhausted.

In the end im glad I did it for my son who had a blast and we got some great pics of my little girl who was turning heads all over the park as the Evil Queen. But I'm good.... for at least 3-5 years. I wouldn't recommend this party for anyone with kids 3 or under. The only reason I bought tickets in the first place was my wife’s FOMO because of my sister who goes every year. I don’t particularly care for Halloween or after hour parties. In fact, it was my first one.

There’s just nothing for me at these after hour events. Most everything I love about DLR can be found at Disneyland during the day when the sun is shining. We stayed at the Westin last night and went to Disneyland today and I had about 10x more fun than last night. Beautiful, crystal clear 75 degree day with a breeze. A nice late morning circle tour on the DLRR. Matterhorn, BTMRR, Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise etc. Sitting at the Plaza Inn umbrellas for lunch. Walking along the ROA up towards Splash with the jazz music playing and sun shining does something for my soul. In fact I always say if you didn't go to the west side of the park during the day (especially when the weather is beautiful) you didn't go to Disneyland. We just had a great time. It was also great that my son warmed back up to Matterhorn and BTMRR after deciding he was scared of them for the past year even though he rides Space Mountain all the time.

The Matterhorn was the ride of the day for me as it’s been a long time. It’s funny, we go to the parks like 2x per month but there always seems to be one or two big rides you haven’t been on in 8-10 months. I wouldn’t even bother with the TL track anymore. Rode twice today. Row 6 on the TL track and row 4 on the FL track. The latter felt about 10x less violent. Just a more smooth, pleasant ride and I find the track layout and ride sequence to be more fun. Row 4 was also quite comfortable. Might be the best seat of the 6. You’re in the middle of the ride vehicle taking less punishment on your body but still have some decent leg room.
Shame you missed out on Madam Mim.

I refuse to buy anything without Resort on it, must say Disneyland Resort or I won't buy it..... ;)

You won't find over $300 of shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and such from the Disneyland '55 line they had a few years ago in my wardrobe, nope.....
