Did Oogie Boogie last night. I'm good for about 5 years. Now a lot of that (or maybe most of it) isn't the party's fault. But first I'll tell you what let me down about Ooogie Boogie. It's too short. At 5 hours its hard to get everything you want done especially if you have kids as they really have more like 3 good hours at the party. I kind of felt like what Joe day ticket holder must feel like when not having been to DL in years. Just kind of felt like we were rushing and that the odds were stacked against you. Which is a strange feeling for me as we have the regular park days down to where we're just experiencing the parks differently than the majority of guests.

Was a little let down with the lack of dining options. By 8pm it seemed like there were very few places to eat. We decided to eat at Flo's and had like 3 options to choose from. No turkey club, etc from the day menu. We also spent way too much time at Flo's but that's what happens when you're at the park with 6,4,3, and 2 year old. At a 5 hour event you really cant afford to spend an hour eating. With that said we managed to do pretty much do everything we wanted but it felt hectic. We did the Oogie Boogie, Ernesto De La Cruz, Maleficent, Dr. Facilier and Mother Goethel treat trails. We rode Goofys, Jumping Jellyfish, Maters, Webslingers from 3-6pm and rode RSR, Soarin, Luigis and Incredicoaster during the party. Incredicoaster at 10:45pm after the second parade and Soarin in the nick of time at 10:59pm. At this point all the kids were sleeping and were child switching or just sacrificing for one to party ride. Of course I found myself playing host again and catered to my non Magic Key sisters wants/needs which was why we didn't ride MAD.

The highlights for me were Villains Grove and Ernesto De La Cruz who was awesome! Love that eerie rendition of "Remember Me" they have playing too. I feel that all of the treat trails need to be on the level of Ernesto. Many of them felt lacking in atmosphere compared to him. Villains Grove was very cool but at this point was a little bit of a let down. I feel that its a tad overrated but I probably just took too long to see it. With that said, Its amazing what they're able to do with fog, projections, music etc. I feel that the party is missing a headliner or two. It needs a couple more experiences on the level of Villains Grove. The parade was a little bit of a let down as the kids were falling asleep or already asleep and I was coming down with whatever my wife was sick with last week. The headless horseman is cool but there was just way too much time in between him and the rest of the parade. In fact, it seems like there was always a little too much time between floats but I was also exhausted.

In the end im glad I did it for my son who had a blast and we got some great pics of my little girl who was turning heads all over the park as the Evil Queen. But I'm good.... for at least 3-5 years. I wouldn't recommend this party for anyone with kids 3 or under. The only reason I bought tickets in the first place was my wife’s FOMO because of my sister who goes every year. I don’t particularly care for Halloween or after hour parties. In fact, it was my first one.

There’s just nothing for me at these after hour events. Most everything I love about DLR can be found at Disneyland during the day when the sun is shining. We stayed at the Westin last night and went to Disneyland today and I had about 10x more fun than last night. Beautiful, crystal clear 75 degree day with a breeze. A nice late morning circle tour on the DLRR. Matterhorn, BTMRR, Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise etc. Sitting at the Plaza Inn umbrellas for lunch. Walking along the ROA up towards Splash with the jazz music playing and sun shining does something for my soul. In fact I always say if you didn't go to the west side of the park during the day (especially when the weather is beautiful) you didn't go to Disneyland. We just had a great time. It was also great that my son warmed back up to Matterhorn and BTMRR after deciding he was scared of them for the past year even though he rides Space Mountain all the time.

The Matterhorn was the ride of the day for me as it’s been a long time. It’s funny, we go to the parks like 2x per month but there always seems to be one or two big rides you haven’t been on in 8-10 months. I wouldn’t even bother with the TL track anymore. Rode twice today. Row 6 on the TL track and row 4 on the FL track. The latter felt about 10x less violent. Just a more smooth, pleasant ride and I find the track layout and ride sequence to be more fun. Row 4 was also quite comfortable. Might be the best seat of the 6. You’re in the middle of the ride vehicle taking less punishment on your body but still have some decent leg room.

That's how every day at WDW feels to me and part of the reason I so strongly prefer DLR.

Granted, this may not actually appeal to you at all, but I really love Scary Farm at Knott's. Of course, a very different focus compared to OBB and certainly not for kids or scaredy cats, but they have great mazes, fun entertainment, and pretty much the entire park is one massive scare zone. They do a phenomenal job. Insanely busy on the Fri/Saturday though.

I'm a little conflicted on whether or not I personally would get anything out of OBB or not. I definitely would love to see the entertainment and do MAD, but 5 hours is a little short (the other haunt events run a few hours longer on average for less money) and I'm not really big on waiting forever for characters, though Ernesto sounds really cool. Almost nothing about DCA appeals to me much anymore, but I suppose a benefit of that would be that I would be more focused on the event exclusive stuff maybe? If nothing else, it's probably a net benefit that Disneyland just stays itself for Halloween now and the hard ticket has moved over to the more 'thrilling' park where it's a better fit.

I love Matterhorn! I always ask for rows 1 or 4 (front of either car) because I felt like I had no legroom in the other rows and it has consistently delivered for me. Tomorrowland track is definitely bumpier but Row 6 certainly couldn't have helped.

I'm glad your son is getting more adventurous.

Oh wow I lied. I’ve been to Halloween Horror nights 4-5 times and Knotts Scary Farm twice. Even did Fright Fest at Magic Mountain once. All before I was 30 and before kids which feels like another lifetime ago. Those were all fine at the time. I don’t think I’d have any interest anymore. When I said first after hours event I meant at DLR.

I don’t think there’s enough there for an all adult trip unless you REALLY just love Halloween (and Disney) and want to knock off another event off your list. And/ or if you want to take advantage of the short lines for rides. The thing is the event exclusive stuff isn’t enough to carry the party for most adults with no kids IMO. It needs a couple more headlining experiences and maybe like exclusive WOC where a seat is included for it to feel worth it to me. But that’s not going to happen. Haha.

Ernesto was great! The music, his acting, the makeup/ costume all top notch. Would love for a Coco ride to come to DCA. As long as the imagineers don’t get cute and try to omit Ernesto and all the songs from the movie from the ride.

Matterhorn on the FL side row 4 was a blast! Part of it was also just having my son on with me, the beautiful weather and not intimately knowing the track. I don’t ride Matterhorn all that often. Yesterday was one of those days in the park that just flowed really nicely with no agenda or a ton of rides. Best kind of trips usually. Really nice after a couple trips where I was playing host. “My services” have been booked again for 11/12 and 11/27 and I’m kind of dreading it. I used to to look forward to these kind of trips but now they re just expensive, exhausting, stressful trips with my head buried in my phone all day. I think it’s just been too many of them in a short period of time. The only thing I look forward too are those few moments on rides where you get to see first timers reactions.

Sorry to hear you had a so-so time overall, but glad you managed to find some fun.

How were wait times for treat trails and rides for you during the party? I'm bracing for a worse experience than last year after reading a MC article the other day where they pointed out Disney cut the number of nights from 2021 but increased the number of tickets sold.

Re: missing headliners, I really do wonder how poorly Villainous must have surveyed with folks if they decided to forgo it after 1 season. That the party doesn't include some nighttime spectacular is very, very odd, especially with Halloween Screams playing right next door.

So, Bumpy Bumpy Hippos became the sleeper hit of my West Coast park, but when designing the East Coast park, I figured—y’know, with all the alligators and whatnot—Floridians wouldn’t be interested in bumpy water animals. So my lead Dreamateer, Claude Davis, spent months designing a huge Wild West Bumpy Buffaloes ride.

But then the East Coast park opens, and the guests are all like, “Where are the Bumpy Hippos??? Why didn’t we get Bumpy Hippos?” so I told Claude to stop work on the Buffalo thing, we were just gonna copy Bumpy Bumpy Hippos for Florida. Claude was P.O.’d.

So Bumpy Bumpy Hippos finally opened on the East Coast. But we cut the ride time in half. Tourists don’t notice.

That explains it all.

Treat trail wait times were really low. I didn’t wait more than 10 minutes for anything including Villains Grove.

Dr. Facilier - 7 min (6:10pm)
Mother Goethel- 0 min (7pm)
Ernesto De La Cruz - 1 min (9:15pm)
Oogie Boogie - 7 min (9:20pm)
Maleficent - 2 min (9:30pm)
Villains Grove - 10 min (9:40pm)

Yeah must have surveyed poor or they re too cheap and/ or don’t want to deal with it since tickets are selling out anyway. More than a spectacular though I think it needs to more walkthroughs on the level of Villains Grove. And maybe a Halloween show/ concert. Coco or Hocus Pocus would be great for that.

That's encouraging to hear. I'm going this weekend and treat trails are my priority so good to see the waits were relatively low.

I'd love a Coco or Hocus Pocus maze; they could use one of the old soundstages where the Minnie/Daisy/Clarabelle Sanderson sisters are meeting right now for that.

I wish I could say I was optimistic about this. :(

But… think of the synergy! 😬

Replace the phone booth in the UK section of EPCOT with a police box?

That would be okay… I’m more worried about Dr. Who being absorbed into the MCU. ☹️

On the other hand… Daleks parading down Main Street would be something I’d pay to see. 😄

They already did that.

It should be noted this is about streaming rights only at this point. There were rumors of Disney co-producing the upcoming specials and new season that will be on D+ but that remains to be seen, as filming was already underway.

Don't expect much more beyond Doctor Who being streamed on D+ around the world. I certainly wouldn't expect any M&G or attraction coming to any Disney Park anytime soon.

Ok thank you. I saw something related to Disney wanting to make a new Dr. Who with more "global appeal" and that had me concerned. If it is just streaming and a place for Dr. Who episodes to live, I'm down with that. :D

I noticed this season of Dancing with the Stars is produced by the BBC. I don't think Disney can buy the BBC since it's a government agency, iirc.

DwtS has always been a BBC produced show as it was based on Strictly Come Dancing from the BBC. This season they just moved it from ABC to D+.

Also yes Disney can't buy the BBC as it is a government owned agency.

This is just Disney Marketing at its best. Doctor Who has always had "global appeal", it just wasn't always available in all broadcast markets. Moving it to D+ outside of the UK brings it to a worldwide audience that might have never seen it before.
