It sucks but we have reached the point where real grass is not sustainable in some parts of the country, and Southern California is one of those places. It's a smart move on Disney's part to move to turf, and the turf at MK is actually great.

Now if we could get golf courses switched over: https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...ement-protest-watering-exemptions-2022-08-14/

I think Ivy would Be much better than the bright green AstroTurf they just put in front of Mansion. I thought the one they put in the Town Square planter looked much more realistic. Is it just the lighting/ the fact that it’s a small patch?

I hope that the astroturf they just put in front of Mansion is temporary. Anything organic would be preferable. Even if it’s not grass.

I don’t agree with Walt’s mandate that the outside of Mansion must be pristine, so I’d actually prefer a mess of spooky untamed trees and shrubs to this overly sanitized golf course green.

At the park now. Got so, so disgustingly wet on Splash — Slippin’ Falls and the coaster drop were equally catastrophic. Still so wet, an hour and a half later. Pretty sure my a** just left a bit wet spot on my Big Thunder seat.
Splash didn’t used to do that. When it first opened, you’d get just enough water spray to make it fun. The soakings seemed to start with the new California-mandated log fleet with the individual seats. Thanks a lot, California!

Oh! I thought this was a problem going way back. Isn’t there some (apocryphal?) story about Eisner riding pre-opening while wearing a suit and getting way too drenched, and then getting mad and demanding the imagineers retool? Haha I’ve just assumed the ride was problematically engineered from the start.

The ride has indeed been problematic since the beginning. Problems with the logs delayed the opening day by several months, and one of the reasons was rumored to be test riders getting drenched. I remember checking the ride out during those delay months and seeing a test log cycling around with an odd, white temporary front that looked like they were testing different profiling sculpts to see how it effected the experience.

When it opened, everything seemed fine, though the “fixed” logs always felt clunky in the way they bumped their way along the flume and climbed the lifts with the grace of a drunk rhinoceros.

Then some parents let their kid crawl into the front cavity of a log, he bumped his head, and the bench seating was declared not straight-jacket-y enough.

The individual seat logs arrived, and getting drenched—the very thing that delayed the ride opening in the first place—became the new normal.

We complain about a lot of stuff here and much of it doesn’t really impact your time at the park. If this continues around the park and is not temporary I can it absolutely see it being a deal breaker for me. My love for greenery and Disney landscaping is well documented. Seeing bright green AstroTurf on a sizeable lawn in front of the Mansion is jarring and for myself at least makes it that much Harder to suspend disbelief. It just takes you right out of the world they re trying to build up.

Now maybe I’ll get used to this like I have so many other things but I have no interest in wandering around a Disneyland full of astroturf and succulents. For me the idyllic landscaping is a big part of the escape.

But it’s pretty clear Disney cares about the environment which is why they stopped selling the millions of plastic toys from China…. Oh wait. Well hey at least they re saving the world with 20 square feet of AstroTurf.

For what it's worth- a friend of a friend said that the turf in front of Lincoln was temporary. Who knows how valid the source is, but it provides some hope, haha!

Thanks I’ll take it! I can live with temporary. I’m reminded that they did bring back the proper Frontierland gate when all hope was lost so maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt?

I didn’t realize the turf in front of Lincoln was changed too. I thought it was only on the other side so far next to City Hall

2 weeks from D23 and no juicy rumors. Remember when Micechat had sources? I guess we kind of already got our rumors a little early with the PeopleMover.

We spent the day at Santa Cruz Boardwalk. We had a fabulous day! It's been many years since my husband and I have visited and the first visit for my daughter. She loved it. The Giant Dipper is still awesome (air time!), didn't spend her college fund to attend, and even had a Dole Whip. . :D

This was after visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium yesterday (also a great day). Amazing what you can see and do when you don't spend all your vacation time and money at The House of Mouse. ;)

August and September have to be my least favorite time at Disneyland. It’s way too hot and Halloween is my least favorite season at the park aesthetically. And when it’s 95 degrees outside and you re seeing pumpkins everywhere it’s even more of a turn off.

Not to mention we lose classic Mansion for 5 months. The one silver lining are the nice summer nights.

We are blessed to have so many fun and different things to do in California. I LOVE the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
