I didn't mean the actor. Disney touted it as a big deal that he dances with a man for a fraction of a second, slightly implying he's gay supposedly.

Meanwhile in 1996 Disney had a major character (and actress) come out as gay in a television episode. No subtleties.

Yet people act like Disney's very slight gay mentions 30 years later are somehow the bravest thing the company has ever done.
I getcha.

It's almost a backhanded insult to make a big deal out of a straight man doing gay things on camera. Why couldn't they find a gay actor?

I agree with you. They brag about being the company of inclusion (yeah right).

I think its a backhanded insult to have small fractions of a second scenes that are made to be cut for international releases and tout it as some iconic moment.

Yeah Disney you really put your life on the line there by having 2 girls kiss in Star Wars for one second(thats removed from most international versions).

Meanwhile independent and major film studios have made full on gay films with gay lead characters for decades. But those arent a big deal cause "they aren't Disney".

Any of these big companies, whether its media, electronics, clothing, etc will boast about inclusion and representation while thousands of slave laborers make products for them in other countries.

Very definition of a hypocrite and a very sad situation.

They are inclusive for people with money. If there were a group of cannibals that were rich, Disney would market to them.

Good point.

I honestly don't care who plays characters representing the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, so long as they do the role justice and become that character for paying audiences. Which is, I guess, what a good actor does. I think the first important step would be for all the closeted gay actors in Hollywood playing straight characters to stop pretending, but that would also require the studios to commit to still employing them for straight roles if it's a good fit.

It's kind of a messy topic, like much social change is, and it always takes decades to play out. But the Social Media crowd thinks Disney is blazing some new trail in the 2020's, when they actually did this the first time 30 years ago.

Y'all need to stop having this gay conversation. It's literally changing what ads show up.
