I also really don’t like the roof either… the open design of DL’s is much preferred. That said with the Florida weather there’s no way around it.
The Mad Tea Party at Magic Kingdom actually opened without the roof and it took Disney something like two years to get around to adding it. It was supposed to be replaced by the glass roof design used at Disneyland Paris as part of New Fantasyland but was cut from the project. The Magic Kingdom ride is also in that very poorly designed area where Fantasyland and Tomorrowland just slam right into each other. So much care was taken with the transitions on the west side of the park but it’s like they just sort of forgot when it came to Tomorrowland.

Disneyland's has softer features compared to the rigidness of the Magic Kingdom's, making them more pleasant to look at. A good reminder that original does not necessarily mean better.

ESPECIALLY when it comes to the original Fantasyland at DL.
This I absolutely agree with. Honestly, the original Fantasyland was just not up to par and I’m glad that it has evolved. I do wish the Chicken of the Sea ship was still there though.

I would have liked to see it but then where does Dumbo go? I think ultimately Dumbo probably looks better in Fantasyland 2.0. In its current location than the ship. Then again the land may have evolved differently if the ship stayed but I’m going to take the known of what we have which a really great Fantasyland over the alternative. I’d definitely be ok with a Neverland expansion. Fantasy Springs would have been great where GE is or even for a DCA expansion.

True. I’m just glad our Fantasyland doesn’t look like Florida’s.

For Fantasyland 2.0, the original plan was to move the ship right around where the IASW themed parade viewing decks across from Storybookland are located, but it was deemed impossible to move it and got demolished while building a new one was deemed too expensive.

Close the Subs, put the Jolly Roger on the lagoon.

I thought about this a while back and almost posted but erased it when I realized that it would most likely mean a major reworking of the monorail track, surrounding area and trees which I don’t trust the current regime with. Not that they would have to do it but I feel like it would be packaged together. It definitely sounds like an organic addition to the area when you think of the lagoon from Peter Pan and the mermaids that used to inhabit it. Still though I think I’d prefer a more natural setting for the lagoon as the boat if I recall correctly is a bit cartoony. I know most will disagree but I think an Avatar sub ride would be a great transition from Fantasyland to TL and probably about as good as could expect or hope for.

Ahhh that makes sense so Dr Alice is on the right track with putting it in the motorboat Cruise area.

I’m glad our entire Magic Kingdom doesn’t look like Florida’s, with the lone exception of their Tomorrowland.

While a few individual ride updates may be welcome, on balance our Fantasyland really is perfect as it is, which means I’m sure WDI has plans to further muck around with it.

I prefer the MK teacup designs because of how they evoke the classic Alice in Wonderland style, but on the whole DL's is much better with the open canopy and proximity to the Matterhorn. The MK designs wouldn't work at DL and I'm okay with that; I'm happy that design is present on more merch though.

I can understand that but I’m a Disneyland fan first. Even though I have a lot of love for Alice as it was maybe the first Disney movie I can remember having on repeat as a child. And Roger Rabbit

I have to agree, though I’ve never been to WDW, so I’ll have to save final judgement for when I do visit (not planning on doing that anytime soon).

Years ago, when I did have the desire the visit, I watched a walk-through video of MK on YouTube. I was taken aback by the large amounts of empty spaces and “breaks” in between attractions, restaurants, etc. in the park. Things would appear in the video, then there would be nothing for a solid few minutes, then something would reappear. Coming from a Disneyland perspective, where there is something to look at basically everywhere in the park, I was not too impressed by the pockets of nothingness in that video. I’d have to see it for myself still.

Well with DisneySeas getting something like this soon, I don't see that as that bad of an idea

I’ll confess it’s been over 15 years since my last trip to WDW but your description is pretty much what I found.

The most impressive things to me were the scale/size of the surrounding area outside Magic Kingdom itself which in many ways felt too “corporate”. I really liked the various “monorail resort” hotels, EPCOT, and AK.

It was most cool to see the TTA/Peoplemover and the notably abundant AA shows of a bygone era though which thanks to A/C are especially well-suited for the brutal Florida climate.
