Not sure what this means for the future of Disneyland. I'm not optimistic.

I think given the DisneylandForward project there is still some interest in terms of modestly developing out the Anaheim parks. There is a big built-in fan base in the SoCal region unlike central Florida, which is more reliant on domestic and international tourism.

That said, I’m not surprised corporate is trying to relocate many of the Burbank/Glendale offices. Follows the trend we’ve seen other large businesses follow out of CA.

After ToonTown and Marvel, even if DLForward doesn’t happen I’d be fine if Imagineering focused their efforts on Florida for awhile anyway.

Why are you not optimistic?
A) Personality flaw... but that's a topic for a different forum. ;)

B) Just wondering what that means for creativity at the DL Resort if imagineering execs take off to the other side of the country. While it might inject more creativity into the East Coast parks, will it leave us stranded and forgotten? Just a concern. I'm not at high alert or anything. :)

We should be grateful about the possibility of the current “creative” team here leaving because the stuff they’ve been coming up with recently has been trash. Let’s get some new and actual talent.
That was what I was kind of hinting at, too. Basically my trust level is so low that if the parks were locked in time for the next 10 years with just basic maintenance and upkeep performed, I’d consider it a win.

Dizney's moving operations to Florida because the rent is cheaper and less insane regulations. You see how that works? The higher-ups get in bed with all the right people politically and would never, ever leave the Southern California area mansions they inhabit, but wherever they can save money and avoid all the bureaucratic BS that comes with their perfect-weathered state they'd never, ever leave...they will.

@raven24 & @BuzzedPotatoHead89 You make excellent points. I was just wondering if there would NOT be a creative team in Anaheim at all. What if they ALL go to Florida? Is that bad? Would it matter?
As @raven24 mentioned I believe most/all of the TDA staff is staying. I’d also have to assume some of the “Disneyland legacy” team within WDI including the Kim Irvine-types still have too much seniority to probably be moved to Lake Nona unwillingly at this point.

But there’s others here with more knowledge of the circumstances than me…

All of the parks have their own Entertainment teams and local Walt Disney Imagineering field offices that handle small projects. There is no indication that is changing so everyone actually based in Anaheim should stay in Anaheim. Even beyond creative fields, anyone who works exclusively with Disneyland Resort or the parks in Asia is to stay in California.

It’s really the main Walt Disney Imagineering team up in Glendale that will be most impacted, but even that seems to be an unknown. Supposedly 1401 Flower St is not being completely vacated. It may be that Walt Disney Imagineering follows Universal Creative who moved from Hollywood to Orlando years ago but most of what is designed for Universal Studios Hollywood is still designed locally while everything else is designed in Orlando.

Pretty much this. Most of the teams developing for Disneyland will stay at Disneyland.

Even the idea of "main team" seems to be in question. WDI has famously maintained their own admin teams, keeping things like budgets, finance, HR and Legal in-house for them. There is a lot of people counted as "Imagineers" that have little to do with the actual product that goes into the parks.

Comparing the DL and MK teacups is a good study in nostalgia. I really dislike the MK teacup designs. At least in comparison to the DL designs. Yet MK’s teacups are the original DL tea cup designs. I wonder if I would feel differently about them if I grew up seeing and riding the MK versions? DL’s are just objectively better though right?

I also really don’t like the roof either… the open design of DL’s is much preferred. That said with the Florida weather there’s no way around it.

I prefer the MK teacup designs because of how they evoke the classic Alice in Wonderland style, but on the whole DL's is much better with the open canopy and proximity to the Matterhorn. The MK designs wouldn't work at DL and I'm okay with that; I'm happy that design is present on more merch though.
