The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Possibly but I was pretty excited to go on my trip in May. Something happened between that trip and now. Amd I think it’s just the consistency of the bad news/ bad decisions more than any one thing.

Not really missing the AP at the moment. Could that change when the weather cools down, they offer a membership program and when they take a few steps in the right direction? Maybe. I also have two young kids. I’m not trying to deal with their crappy operation right now with things like hour + mobile order waits etc.
I've seen people say they have worked out the issues with mobile order, if that helps any. I don't blame you for wanting to hold off though.

The constant getting less but paying more. The asinine levels they have taken their virtue signaling.

My future theme park vacation plans are for Universal Florida, Silver Dollar City and Busch Gardens Willamsburg. Disney parks aren’t even on my radar right now.

My fellow snobby Californians, STOP talking smack about Florida all the time. Give it a rest.

They weren't referring to Disneyland, it's quite literally ALL of California versus all of FLORIDA being compared right now. Lot of blind fanboyism going on for both California and Florida in that thread.
Yep. Instead of news about what’s going on with the 2,000 employees moving, it’s a bunch of “my state is better than yours,” and with a tiny side of Disneyland forum gossip, which is not too uncommon here.

I just might create a special thread for that.

So I watched the HM episode of the new "Behind the Attraction" series on D+. It's alright. Has a very fast-paced, zany editing style which will probably annoy some people and there's quite a bit of overlap with The Imagineering Story, but it's not bad overall. I was hoping they'd go more in-depth on the design of the other versions of the attraction worldwide but it's pretty much all Disneyland focused with smaller mentions of the other ones. Again some pretty good never before seen archival footage.

Don't forget the lengthy discussions on the best hamburger chains! Most of the chatter seems to be a proxy battle about politics.

I do feel really bad for the people being asked to uproot their lives to the other side of the country. It also makes me worry about the culture of Imagineering in general. I know things are not like they used to be but I can't help but feel that losing that cross-pollination with creative people from the film world will be a loss.

Selfishly, it also bums me out because I wanted to splurge on an ABD trip that lets you visit Imagineering. Even if they continue that, it won't be the same knowing that most of the Imagineers have moved out east.

How could I forget that? “In-N-Out is subpar and Five Guys is better!” For like three pages straight.😐

I don’t think most of the Imagineers are moving East, but I could be wrong. I wouldn’t know because the thread is too concerned about which colleges are better between Florida and California.

The days of a Marc Davis splitting his time between theme parks and movies have really long since passed. Even someone like Joe Lanzisero who started in animation made a full switch. Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm have people that work on the theme parks but it’s more supervising to ensure everything matches the established art direction.

You could have ended up visiting right after a project was completed and a bunch of the Imagineers were just laid off. Themed entertainment is not a stable industry and a lot of people are project hires and relocating for projects is not unusual.

No one seems to really know. Plenty in the industry are describing this as Walt Disney Imagineering relocating.

That makes sense. I am sure I have an idealized view of what it is like.

That's also something I want to do. I'm telling myself they would never move all of Imagineering out of California, but...who really knows?

I hate that the pandemic has caused all natl and state parks to be completely full. Finding a campsite is a nightmare. Finding parking at trail heads is a nightmare. Formally quiet and out if the way places are now Disney crowded. *sigh*

Y'all don't really like camping or the outdoors. Go back to whatever you were doing before the 2020 apocalypse. ;).

This last week may have convinced me that DL needs to reinstate their AP program so ppl will return to theme parks and leave the nature to me. :p;)

Watching a recent Disney Food Blog video. I do love their Youtube content; for a commercial Disney Travel vlog, its refreshingly honest, critical and down-to-earth— and AJ Wolfe’s narration is a joy to listen to.

But I’m watching the episode on WDW’ s cheapest food options, and they’re telling me $14 Mac n’ Cheese in a cardboard french fry tray is a bargain... for Disney food. And they’re right. And it’s surreal.

The DFB videos are very good. They're not afraid to criticize and pay for everything they review which is nice change.

I'm really hoping there's an announcement regarding fastpass soon and Maxpass is back by October. I'd even be ok with some other sort of paid fastpass option like what's been rumored... Ideally they bring back Maxpass, I just want some way to shorten the wait times on my next trip!

Fastpass has its pros and cons, it shouldn't be used on every ride, but not having the option at all was really weird when I was there on Saturday. The standby lines moved quicker, but if the standby line was really long all day, you had no option but to deal with it unless there is a Single Rider line. Single Rider really only helps much on a couple of rides, namely Space Mountain and Radiator Springs Racers. Most of the other rides that offer single rider lines, often have single rider lines that are as long or almost as long as the standby waits, and they move painfully slow.

Agreed, those are the only two that are really useful. Not sure why Disneyland is so bad at single rider lines when every single other Disney resort can figure them out just fine. I guess lack of space, but most of them are so convoluted and useless as is that I don't use most of them, even though I primarily go to the parks solo.

You can shorten it now due to fastpass not existing.
I understand the pros/cons and have experienced the park recently without fastpass and 100% prefer having fastpass available.

ETA: Also the long thread on the wdw side has pretty definitively proven that having fastpass does not make lines longer in general and I believe it.
