As a young specimen, I distinctly remember believing that Cinderella lived in the castle. I wonder if I would’ve found the birthday cake cool or confusing or both.

I think the new color scheme is weird in part because people are so used to the old one. It may not be objectively bad, but is it what tourists want to get their once in a lifetime photo in front of?

They first tested different coats and shades of blue on one of the spires, and then started painting the whole thing the royal blue color (seen below), which was more like a bold refresh than a distinct change, and it looked great in person. The new purple coat is definitely jarring. Put the paint can down!

Too cartoony.

I don't know who this person is at WDI who believes all castles should be cartoony is, but they need to be at best reassigned.

It was a proper castle before and there was literally nothing wrong with it. Now it's been DizneyPrinsess Fisher-Price bombed.

Hopefully this is temporary like they're saying, but WDW temporary has been known to turn into 30 years.

Better than Hong Kong doesn't necessarily still mean good.
Yes, it's just too garish. It looks like metallic tinted plastic, which in a way it is I guess, but they didn't need to lean into it. I'm still hoping a wash will be applied over it. and this in't the final look.

FWIW, I just showed this to my 8 year old and she thought it was awesome. Then she went on and on about how cool it would be to have a whole candyland theme park. :D
I second that idea! 😃 When I was a kid, we went to a (long gone) Santa’s Village park in CA. They had a “Lollipop Tree.” It was just a small living tree with small, cheap wrapped lollipops tied to its little branches. Every child was allowed to go up and pick a lollipop off of it. I thought that was the greatest thing on the planet.😃 I still remember walking up to that little tree In awe!

Santa's Village! I went to Santa's Village once when I was about 4. I don't remember that tree (I don't remember most of it, really). I would've loved that!

With all of the flooding and raining currently taking place in China, there's a very real possibility the poorly built Three Gorges Dam will burst. Could spell disaster for China. If it does burst, millions of lives will be lost due to the negligence of the dam's construction and refusal to acknowledge the possible danger. Water from the break would flood all the way to Shanghai, if I understand correctly. Shanghai Disneyland will be wiped away, causing even more damage to the already injured Walt Disney Company. Would also be crippling to the global economy, due to our reliance on Chinese production.

Finally reading my Art of Disneyland book. I had no idea Herb Ryman was still cranking out these works of art so late in his life. This painting was made for the exterior of the Indiana Jones ride in 1987 and was his last full scale painting executed for Disneyland. 2 years before he died. Pretty amazing. No wonder Indiana Jones is the last great attraction at DL. You still had guys like Herb Ryman around. It’s also interesting to think that they were planning an Indiana Jones ride years before The Last Crusade was released.

The few months after Indy opened before parts of Tomorrowland started to close to make way for the redo (most notably the Peoplemover) were definitely peak Disneyland- it had the best of what the first two generations of Imagineers had to offer, and Pressler hadn't had the chance to change too much of the status quo at the park.

It's amazing how quickly things declined after that though- Pressler's many mishaps are well documented, DCA, and varying levels of quality in executive leadership that have led the resort since.

The park needs another Imagineer like Tony running the place creatively (I know he didn't work alone- but he does embody the word 'Imagineer' so he helps my point)- someone with a lifelong passion for the place, who understands every aspect of how the show is supposed to function, and where the weak spots are. And how Disneyland should be changed in the future to maintain its competitive edge over the rest of the industry.

There is always something that is going to kill us all.

Yeah, but there’s a difference between preventable dangers (bad dam design) and things we can’t effect yet (Yellowstone Supervolcano).
That is what worries me about going to theme park rides built in socialist or third world countries even if it was Disney. The construction standards are not exactly strict.
