The problem is one of the tracks suck!
Poor Fantasyland track! I actually like both sides.

Fantasyland: Better view of the main AA. Better placement of 2nd Snowman. Smoother. Bonus tunnel and a chance of Monorail beepage at end.

Tomorrowland: Wilder. Scarier. Back seat airtime at bridge drop. Scenic trip around base of mtn. Much better splash.

The big changes that create smoothness are the change to heart line design and new, more precise manufacturing. New Vekoma’s are much smoother than their old Arrow “borrowed” design. Regardless of what track is used, the layout of the Matterhorn needs to be comprehensively redesigned to move the center of movement.
Well, the main reason the Matterhorn is so rough is first and foremost that they designed it on the fly and bent the track pieces out in the field instead of in a warehouse. You don't have the precision of a computer model. Also they designed it to not have banks (or at least sharp banks) on the turns, similar to how a mouse coaster (like Goofy's Sky School) is. This was to add more thrill, but at the expense of more jerky and sudden movement. Most coasters have banked turns to keep things smoother.

I've always felt like they could help with the roughness by adding better shock-absorbtion technology to the vehicles themselves. I'm not sure if that would be too expensive or make the vehicles too bulky or heavy. I'd be fine with a tear-down and rebuild as long as the design was the same, but you can't really "fix" the non-banked lateral turns without changing the feel of the ride. Some sort of lateral dampers in the vehicles would at least alleviate some of the neck pain. Sudden drops could be smoothed out though, as that's what's causing the spinal compression horrors. No amount of padding is going to get rid of that!

The Matterhorn is the Coaster of Theseus. Huge chunks of its tracks, if not most of it by now, have been replaced so the old field bent track is less of an issue if any of it even remains. This is why I said the layout would have to be comprehensively addressed. It’s not just a matter of banking but the center of the rotation that the banking follows, heart line versus center line. Heart line rotation is a major component of modern smooth rides.

This!

When I was younger, the Tomorrowland side was THE side. I wouldn't give that stupid Fantasyland side a sideways glance. But, now that I'm "everything hurts"-years old, I've come to recognize the charm of the Fantasyland side. :)

How is little mickeblu doing with everything? Do you have the little Mickey waffle maker? Those are a lot of fun and come out really well.

Also love the magnet collection!

He’s doing great thanks! He’s excited for “baby sister.” We don’t have one but my cousin does and it works great... especially with my aunts waffles. How are you and the family doing?

Thank you! Unfortunately I can’t put these Bad boys on the fridge because they are fragile and my son will get to them. So instead they re on a tin sheet on the book shelf.

Awwww I bet he is!!! Is he starting school in the fall?

And we are doing pretty good, thanks! Kids are already bored less than one week out of school. But that’s typical haha

Love those magnets! I should start a magnet collection. I need something pretty cheap (cause I’m cheap) and takes up no space so that would be perfect!

Lol I hear that. My son expects me to entertain him about 15 hours a day.

Unfortunately not all of the magnets were cheap. I bought a lot of them on eBay because most of the magnets they sell at the parks these days are garbage.

Looking for old Disneyland souvenir maps on eBay and came across this one. Look how simple the park map image is. I like how every land had their own page with a description of the rides, restaurants and shops. Love the Dapper Mickey. That image always bring me back to the 80s. Now the description of how the ticket books work I don’t remember as I was born in 82.

Revealed today: The much-loved old N64 themepark ride/photography game “Pokemon Snap” is (finally) getting a sequel on Nintendo Switch. Predating and foreshadowing rides like Buzz Lightyear and Tokyo’s Monster’s Inc., Pokemon Snap put you in a vehicle riding on rails through colorful landscapes—armed with a camera instead of a laser gun or flashlight—trying to get shots of elusive creatures who would appear briefly and suddenly along the route. Your photos got judged on rarity and composition. Can not wait for this sequel! 😃

Back in the days when Disney gave you far more than your money’s worth. I have this exact guidebook in storage somewhere. Many of today’s newer Disneyland fans really have no idea how much BETTER, deeper, easier on the wallet, and more relaxing the Disneyland experience used to be under better leadership. The words “Greed” or “Ripoff” would never even enter a guest’s thoughts.

Terrible hamburgers, though. Even I can admit that.

All Disney has to do is just observe the Splash Mountain line this summer. I’m pretty sure it will be an hour + or whatever it usually is when it’s hot. Unless they only let in 15k people. Then the test is invalid.

Yes I can vaguely remember the days you are talking about.

Lol. Not much has changed with the burgers but you can find a good one in Downtown Disney at least.
